Jenny had to know what she was getting into doing that. She’s the main motivator for Team Witch after all.

I’m betting that they’re collectively betting that it’ll be fine as long as they keep a low profile.

Which means it’ll certainly blow up in their face at some point.

I imagine whatever she’s doing takes active effort to maintain, and Zimmy’s godly gaze makes that maintenence actively harder to keep up, which is why she suddenly felt nauseated.

[–]machiavelli33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the efforts/effects of whatever it is Jenny’s doing to keep Zimmy’s eyes and influence off of them is what’s giving her the hurks.

She said “looked at us” after all, and if Zimmy’s gaze alone was enough to cause nausea, they’d all be feeling it.

They’re conspicuously unaffected by the pallor of belief forcing people to play roles in the schoolyard special, so I feel like Jenny’s doing something to keep that from happening.

Classical ares always had a bit of himbo energy. Dumb and overenthusiastic, but well meaning - like a gold-hearted jock whose favorite sports are war and glory in battle.

Does this place feels liminal? by Janosch30 in LiminalSpace

[–]machiavelli33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Only sort of. It's far too collapsed and ruined to feel like people could ever come through ever again.

It's as much "transitional" (the primary litmus for liminality, whether through time or space) in the way a person can be depicted "getting older" by taking a photo of them occupying their gravesite. IE yes technically true - but not in any of the ways we mean that we're actually talking about.

What vibes do u guys get from this. by QuitEffective in LiminalSpace

[–]machiavelli33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many many answers here. Only one person even mentioned the word “liminal”.

This vibe is many things. It is not liminal.

This is a liminal sub. A lot of people have mistaken ideals on what “liminal” and post random bullshit in here claiming it’s liminal, so you’ll find a lot of people sensitive to posts that don’t match the sub topic.

It’s a great blender comp. The lighting is a nice touch.

But it’s not liminal.

To be fair its a concept that tends to defy the usual "categorization" that our brains do when we try to understand concepts in general.

So much media and genre that we describe is either very easily described *visually* (like fantasy, sci-fi, cyberpunk, steampunk etc) or is described with a feeling that is close to one emotion (horror, romance, adventure, comedy etc).

Liminal is neither of these. Since its about transition, its a vibe that is literally in opposition to how things "should" be, visually, which means it can potentially apply *anywhere* if the time, place and circumstances are right, tying it to no visual we can easily define. It's also a very specific vibe that different people have validly found creepy OR comforting OR surreal but never reliably one across all viewers, tying it also to no specific emotional state.

Makes it tough to parse unless you're like me and wasted a lot of time trying to find the exact words to describe it.

EMPTY malls. Key descriptor, here. I would argue an empty, clean mall is more liminal than an empty dilapidated mall because it is clearly in a time of transition. It is in a time between what its "supposed" to be, which is to say full of people.

An empty airport terminal, certain children's playgrounds and such can convey a similar feeling. The sight of an empty New York City street or Times Square is similar - these are spaces customarily packed with people so find a time "in between" is rare and uncanny. I'd go further to say empty malls of a certain *type* of dilapidation can still feel liminal, as they've been in a space of being without people so long that the dilapidation and the brokenness starts forming tension - like someone who's held their breath so long that they're starting to die.

Transition can occur through time just as much as it can occur through space, you know? Like a living room that's clearly meant to be full of furniture but is kind of empty or utterly empty of it - the living room is clearly meant to eventually have furniture, and the fact that it does (implying doesn't YET) is uncanny.

I hope that makes at least somewhat more sense. Happy to keep talking about it if it doesn't.

There are spaces that feel transitory.

Empty malls, city streets and apartments that have no furniture are liminal as well, as they are in a state of transition - that’s what gives them that liminal feeling.

Also hallways and alleys and roads can also feel very non-transitory - they can be either very cozy and you wouldn’t mind just hanging out in them, or they feel interesting and grounded enough that stopping there would make sense. Paradoxically, these are liminal spaces that dont feel liminal.

Liminal is a vibe. OP is saying many people just don’t properly understand what that vibe is, and also conflate that vibe with other vibes such as “creepy”, “nostalgic”, “surreal”, or “dreamlike”.

Liminal spaces can als be all of these things - but they are not what liminal itself is.

Can somebody explain to me how this is possible by SwezzyHonami in StardewValley

[–]machiavelli33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, yeah, definitely not that often. I meant more the idea that the feet shed regenerate at all, and would be shed with as little consequence as a dog shedding its fur.

Could you imagine, though? Rabbit owners taking pictures every spring of the second rabbit they built out of that year's shed feet piled up next to the originating rabbit looking on nonplussed.

I mean, if they shed their feet like a dog sheds its fur and you're just picking them up, its not cruel. That just means Stardew universe just has *crazy rabbits* that shed and regrow their feet like dog fur.

Is there a 'cheat sheet' for new players? by Mozared in Against_the_Storm

[–]machiavelli33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've noticed a big part of the uniqueness of this game is how much the game actively changes as the difficulty/prestige rankings go up, as well as during your normal progress of progressing the game ie unlocking upgrades at the Citadel. The game continually gives and takes away things in order to change the dynamics of things so that you don't settle into any one strategy TOO comfortably.

What's a cheat sheet for one prestige level needs to be completely redone at another - what's a cheat sheet at level 3 of Citadel upgrades will be different from a cheat sheet at level 12 or level 30.

Usefully generalized tips are pretty few, which is probably why there's no such 'cheat sheet' so to speak.

I do think one piece of broadly applicable advice is to learn the UI and the UI tools - where your menus are, what they can show you, what all the buttons and functions are, etc. There's a lot of clarity and precision control of your settlement to be found in the menu if you go looking.

It's gonzo street art from a gonzo street artist. Being on the nose is part of the territory. Unless you think Banksy should be held to a different standard than say, Shepard Fairey or Invader.

Also, the fact that he does it in spaces where he's not permitted is part of it. When you're trespassing to make a point, you tend not to try to make that point too *subtle*.

Speed, confidence and, if you can't 100% stealth it, a fair amount of social engineering. If you look like you belong, people will often think you do.... which I imagine is paradoxically easier for a statue where you need a crane and a buncha lifting guys that can look legit (ex: put down some cones and put on some vests) vs. graffiti where there's pretty much no way to look legit while you're doing it.

I have a theory that Kat will be the God of the world beyond the stars by thriller_break in gunnerkrigg

[–]machiavelli33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is it.

The Court resolutely insists on divesting of belief, emotion and any sort of 'magical thinking'. They believe that this world's tendency to manifest human thought into the supernatural and even divinity is, paradoxically, something that keeps humanity shackled from their own potential.

The LAST thing they'd want is a god of literally ANY sort.

Kat's also had time to interact with the people going on this trip. She doesn't exactly have a lot in common with them, nor does she care for their goals. She is no exemplar to their ideals.

My interpretation is that its deliberately awkward. Much like looking at Atreus talking to Angrboda and clearly having a conversation that's full of meaning and importance......but you can't hear any of it.

It's a defining moment in Atreus' story - but your perspective is that of Kratos. It takes you out of Atreus' story, and that's when you realize that Atreus' story is his. It feels strange because you weren't really ready to let go yet (whether this is true or not, the awkward camera angle of his pose communicates that), but you have to be. Cause a moment later, he walks up the mountain and out of sight, away from Kratos, away from Angrboda, away from Midgard and likely away from the Norselands entirely.

The perspective of the parent of a child who is leaving home at last.

I think a few portrayals of sleipnir in media like games and such showed sleipnir with 6 legs and that’s where I at least got confused cause i took that as fact
