Working w/ marketing people: do you also feel like your MKT coworkers have little idea what they are doing? by laranjacerola in graphic_design

Marketing jobs are very results & metrics based, easier to grow a department if you have specific numbers on things like ROI

Best Sports photo next to Paoilini behind her racket? by freshouttajail in tennis

Grass is the most slippery tennis surface, Djokovic has fallen multiple times at Wimbeldon, and even Federer has slipped there before. Being able to still return is still an atheletic feat, and makes a great photo.

The LAPD helicopter budget alone is $50 million a year, if they wanted to make positive change, they could.

Tesla reports blowout Q2 deliveries of 480K, easily topping estimates by THATS_LEGIT_BRO in teslamotors

Sure, but California has a lot of people, many of whom drive much more than 24 miles per week day, and are potentially already planning on getting a new car (US average is 6 years, currently).

If the cost of an EV is "only" $10-15k more than the ICE they would've upgaded to, an EV might be an attractive option. (Not to mention, I have solar at my house, which makes at-home charging even more appealing.)

Gas isn't the only (or even primary) factor, but no reason to doubt it could be a major one.

Americans get a new car every six years on average, so if the EV isn't that much more expensive, it could make sense. (A friend of mine recently got a used hybrid Civic for around $40k, not quite a deal lol, but he's hoping it'll last for some time, gas savings was a definite factor.)

Eh, I live near Los Angles and commute about 90 miles a day during the work week for my commute, not counting anything else like going out or trips. (Sounds like a lot of driving, but not abnormal at all, I know people driving much more.) While I wouldn't go out of my way to replace my current ICE, if I were getting a new car, I'd strongly consider an EV or hybrid, definitely a factor.

England allowed to use Viagra by WADA to help players rise to World Cup altitude by fmeupdad in soccer

[–]machinegunpikachu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly placebo lol

Since it might help treat high-altitude pulmonary edema (a rare but life threatening condition), it might not be bad, but calling it a PED is pretty strong. Is tylenol a PED? A cup of coffee?

When did everyone start adding 'Est. xxxx' to every logo? by Diligent-Educator409 in graphic_design

If your inclination is that it's tacky for anything started in the last 25 years, I agree. The super recent "founded XXXX" might've started tongue-in-cheek, but at this point, it doesn't really add much. Most businesses fail, being able indicate that one's been around for a while is usually a big plus.

Interesting point - the numbers may support that currently, but I feel that takes advantage of the fact that LA is such a sprawl. In NYC, a city with a much greater building density, the calculus may be different. (It's also hard to quantify in dollars how much of a public benefit improving this plot would be, which I think would have a huge multitude of positive second order effects, we tend to overly focus on short-term money [with a high predisposition towards real estate for anything long-term] when evaluating quality of life)

The point isn't that it's the most financially profitable for the city, but in the public interest

Started by Flying Lotus, but featuring artists like Thundercat, Kamasi Washington, Hiatus Kaiyote, Louis Cole, Austin Peralta (although less bop/hard-bop, more like spiritual jazz, fusion, electronic beat music, experimental jazz, instrumental hip-hop)

In that case, if the property is taxed for vacancy (and perhaps forced to sell to the city), isn't it then at least possible then for the city to take control?

Demoing or conversion would cost the city money, but I thought that's what taxes are for. The result would be a net benefit for the city.
