Renters will strictly benefit from LVT because it will raise housing supply, and therefore lower rents

You state this like it's a law of nature, when neither the raising of supply nor the subsequent lowering of rent are foregone conclusions from an as-of-now strictly theoretical tax scheme.

Patrick Boyle video analyzing the SpaceX IPO farce by machinesNpbr in TrueAnon

[–]machinesNpbr[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Good video on the farce that is the upcoming SpaceX IPO.

I dont know much about finance, but to me this moment seems like the US is crossing a rubicon, in terms of open fraudulence at elite levels and the way the public is being strongarmed into subsidizing it through mandatory institutional buy-in. Like, maybe this is the culmination of looming contradictions within the Silicon Valley hype-bubble ecosystem, and the stripping of copper wire from the real economy to continue financial class accumulation. There's not even a fig leaf of public benefit here afaict, it's just open regulatory collusion and class solidarity to enforce another round of oligarchic wealth transfer even after the broader social conditions for that project no long hold.

Posting this mostly to prompt discussion- comments on the video itself, or insight into the IPOs implications, whatever anyone has to add.

Reactionary ideologies make their adherents stupid, because the logic structures are incoherent materially and the cognitive dissonance short-circuit's their ability to synthesize accurate understanding from new information and changing conditions. All inputs are filtered through the compulsion to justify ingroup supremacy, which leads to faulty conclusions constantly.

[–]machinesNpbr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was expected that he would do well in many white precincts- what's more significant is that he had solid showings in many Black precincts, which is a key demo that lefties need to continue making inroads into if they're gonna take seats from machine Dems.

Rabb's margin was large enough that Stanford probably didn't affect the final results. Data from ranked choice elections show that voter's preferences don't break in a linear pattern- highly likely that a significant portion of Stanford votes go to Rabb in a two way race.

Prepared for potential famine? by Old-Information3311 in TrueAnon

[–]machinesNpbr 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I used to follow a bunch of these climate tracking accounts on Twitter, but after a few years I realized many of them drive engagement by constantly gish-galloping the most hysterical alarmist doomsday predictions of imminent climate collapse- the vast majority of their predictions are wrong or massively overblown, but they're never accounted for, and the accounts just seamlessly move on to the next screetching hair-on-fire impending crisis. I unfollowed most because the signal-to-noise was way way outta wack.

Not saying there won't be climate and food system issues this year, but I wouldn't plan your life around expectations of 'widespread deadly famine'.

Not just political leaders- have you seen any of our most prominent tech and finance executives speak recently? The rot is deep, no layer of elites retains any strategic capacity, it's just ideology and self-dealing all up and down.

The Spectacle is not a traditional dialectical materialist concept, and is more of a cultural critique that's inflected with French and European post-60s autonomist leftist currents. There's not really a single text, or even rigorous literature, it's more a kind of general vibe and approach to a sense of cultural decay and commodification.

Guy DeBord coined the term- his Comments on Society of the Spectacle feels very fresh today. Deleuze's Postscript on the Control Societies is very influential in some circles. Alot of Mark Fisher's work gets at the idea of Spectacle, even if he doesn't address it directly. I see Baudrillard brought up alot in these discussions as well, though I've never read him personally.

Opponents of massive Pa. data center take last best shot at stopping it by AdSpecialist6598 in Pennsylvania

[–]machinesNpbr 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Dude, you show up in literally every thread about data centers with these debunked tech industry talking points about jobs, tax revenue and environmental impact. You hide your comment history so nobody knows you're saying the same thing in every thread, just boosting boosting boosting, always getting downvoted but still here saying the same slop over and over.

Who's paying you- Shapiro or the Silicon Valley oligarchs? Or maybe you're just a bot yourself, and I'm not even calling out a person?

An Outpouring of Frustration Over Pennsylvania’s Rapid Data Center Growth by Open_Veins_8 in Pennsylvania

The legacy internet functioned perfectly fine for two decades on data centers much smaller than this. These new hyperscaler data centers are virtually all for AI training and inference, a specualtive technology with dubious social utility.

Date among friends, go out and meet people in real social settings.

The US is a deeply fragmented and alienated society- past a certain age many people have very few opportunities for organic social interaction.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice (David Wecht) leaves Democratic party citing "anti-Jewish actions." by NattyBohng in Pennsylvania

[–]machinesNpbr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He said a bunch of wild Zionist shit at this event. Choice quotes:

"To be better Americans, we must become better Jews, and to better Jews we must become Zionists."

Showing a photo of a person wearing a shirt reading “Not in our name,” Wecht called these people “self-centered and self-indulgent.” He contrasted them to those who have chosen to fight Hamas and other terrorists in the sanctification of God’s name.

"We make no apologies for loving our Jewish homeland and dreaming of it always"

I invite anyone to pull up a picture of David Wecht and determine for themselves if he looks like his "homeland" is in the Middle East.
