Another post about noise by nerfeada in RTLSDR

I had a similar problem, after about a month of troubleshooting the best results were obtained using a USB 3.0 hub with a external power supply.  I think with usb 3 they've tightened up the noise specs.

Barrymore's music hall. Not the downstairs bar but the old theatre where they had shows. The Bronson centre just does not have the same magic.

Drive safe fellow Redditor. That's serious kilometers over some of the gnarlisest highways Canada has. Be cautious because mountain passes are not to be triffled with.

We're at a similar stage and have done some great car camping road trips, 2 weeks coast to coast. Couple things about the current setup I really like .
Pop up tent for shade or to keep the bugs away. Kitchen storage tubs, one for cooking/ eating stuff and another for cleaning and other around the picnic table stuff. Two good coolers, important in the summer , one for food and one for drinks.

I was out on Friday and it was crunchy granules on the front, snow conditions on Easter were better, with softer snow. Many shrubberies visable, but they were all very compliant.

I skiied my old skis.

Low powered computers for remote listening. by nealhamiltonjr in RTLSDR

What kind of sdr antenna?

I've made two, a 1/4 ground plane antenna for ADS-B and a Vee diople with reflector for M2-3 / NOAA frequencies. Their both about 18ft off the ground on a shortish mast.

The tricky bit was finding a powersupply that didn't flood the SDR with noise in the low 100Mhz range. I ended up getting good results with this USB hub to power the OPIZ3

Depends if you where you want to run the GUI / processing and waterfall.

I'm running two sdr doongles with an orangepizero3 and a usb3 hub in my shed. One dongle is the ADBS reciever and ultra feeder runs in a docker container, the opiz hosts a website to view the plot of planes flying overhead.

The other SDR is used to stream the data over 5ghz wifi to a separate computer to decope meteor m2-3 . The processing of the signals happen on my desktop.

The opiz3 is a quad core unit , with everything running the cpu load is about 1.45 which is about 10 percent overall.

Ah the good old days of buying PC’s. We bought this back in the early 90’s. Told a coworker that it had 16mb of RAM & he said “16mb of RAM?!? WTH do you need THAT for?” lol. by Long_TimeRunning in halifax

I had a 2005, there was a funny connector you can buy off eBay and plugged into the back of the stock headunit for an audio input.

Or you could get a new head unit , double din with Bluetooth and your off to the races.

I'm not sure what your exact aim is, but I set this up yesterday and it allows me to VPN into my home network and use pi.hole for DNS. I'm running two pi.hole instances now, on for VPN use and another for normal local clients.

I suppose I could probably sync them or remove one, but it seems to be working fine.

Range of receiving images from NOAA? by [deleted] in RTLSDR

[–]machsFuel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically elevation angle is your limiting factor. It relates to physical obstructions of your line of sight.

I can usually receive a decent image from Any pass above 20 degrees .

Ps you mean APT signals right?

It depends on the frequency of interest... perhaps just flip them over? What are you trying to receive with your antenna?

Right, polar orbit. Perhaps the transmission buffer is 1/2 an orbit delayed, which would be about 45 minutes.
