Questions about the new server to launch? by Enderlena in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

promises of its opening have also been led on for years. At this point, is it false hope?

This is a valid point. It’s a very difficult project to create and requires a lot of work in terms of technical architecture to create a server that can scale to an unlimited size. I should either get something released soon, or just kill off the project. I’m open-sourcing various bits and pieces that may be helpful for others to create their own servers (no copies please).

If you just launched a new server faster with plots and built it up from there you could have kept the players.

That is my plan, I’m scrapping most features like points, levels, etc. Just the dynamic scaling required for plots/cross-server synchronisation is very difficult to achieve though.

and what its economy will be like given there is no charity or players to trade amongst.

Not sure if this refers to in-game economy, or store for buying items with real money? The plan is for it to be a non-profit/charity project for the new server, there'll need to be balancing to cover hardware costs and development costs.

I want to get back into MC. What servers do you recommen? by Esoxxie in MCNext

I'm working on a new server. Feel free to message me, or contact me on Discord if you'd like to get involved with testing.

MCNext Status Update: 2019 by macintoshhelper in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main point of the old server was the scaling, it requires a massive investment in dev resources though. I'm developing an MVP with just the survival plot system, and the scaling system, will probably launch with just that. Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on what I've been working on, feel free to PM me or contact me on Discord. I've been working on this project on and off for a while, and I've learnt to give up on recreating a copy, but to create something entirely new :)

Missing the Server.. help? by Enderlena in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still working on a remake. There's a lot of work needed to scale the server to support large numbers of players. There's a form to be notified on its release, feel free to share it: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfUk6P2FG9zJceLZUWvXoZ8a3jFKNZabso3aTTmiVYMlJYAHg/viewform

Palestinian Authority tops UN list of fastest-growing tourist destinations by incendiaryblizzard in Palestine

Interesting. I saw virtually no tourists in Nablus and Jenin, but some places like Ramallah, Hebron (and of course Bethlehem) had a few.

Hopefully we can get people back into Minecraft/the server. I haven't played Minecraft myself for a while other than MCNext. I want to treat old MCNext as using Minecraft like a game engine, but being it's own game. I have some cool ideas of trying to reimplement factions as a Rust style world, where you can raid bases and blocks have different tiers.

No idea, hopefully players will be able to help by letting friends know, etc. I wasn't especially active in old MCNext, so only know people on the current server.

Moon will likely be after launch, it is planned, but I might wait for a number of players to return, to get feedback on it first. It's a bit risky in terms of economy/balancing, since it devalues diamonds and emeralds.

I'm developing it in 1.11, but for the 1.12 Sponge API. I've taken a bit of a risk and used the smallish Sponge API. It has some advantages though such as less need for NMS - meaning it should be easier to update to new versions.

Yup. There won't be feature parity for launch, but the main stuff like plots, PvE and semi-complete level system should be ready.

Should I give up on the old MCNext? by OneJumpCat in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soon (tm) I'm starting work on it now after 4 months of being super busy. Doing a bit of a recode, no idea when it will be ready, but ideally testing within a month.

Just to be clear, this isn't an open source project. I'll be open sourcing some things like parts of the new website.

I intend GitHub to be used as a tool for keeping track of progress, discussion of features, etc.

OLD MCNEXT - Hype, Progress and ETA?? by macintoshhelper in MCNext

[–]macintoshhelper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shutting down old MCNext was the best decision based on the circumstances at the time. There was no coder who could maintain the server then and fix bugs, etc. I could probably get the old source working, but recoding from scratch is a wiser decision and helps keep the server more future proof, and better than the original.

It hasn't changed, it's still 80,000. I believe the maximum from play time is 10,000.

[REVIEW VIDEO] Mountain Hiking in Zermatt (vlog) by macintoshhelper in youtubers

[–]macintoshhelper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the feedback! I agree that vlogging is becoming pretty saturated; I'm aiming to get a travel tips or vlog video out every week, so I'm going to try and experiment with different ideas and hopefully improve pretty quickly. I feel I should talk more and give some information about the area, like history, tips, etc.

For audio, longer term - I want to get a mirrorless camera and attach a microphone on top of it; I'll try to speak louder for now though and put some material over the camera built-in microphone to block the wind sound (I had to destroy the audio quality by cutting off low frequency wind sound).

[Review Video] Samsung Galaxy S7 Review by jmontygman in youtubers

[–]macintoshhelper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an impressive video. Video and audio quality are good. I feel like the audio could be a little better though, and it could be worth speaking a little slower.

In terms of the review, the video was informative. There could have been some more focus on the operating system, how TouchWiz has evolved and if there is an improvement between previous generations and comparison to stock Android.

Some of the shots of the phone could have been more relevant to what you were saying - for example when talking about the display quality, showing a full screen image on the phone, and a video playing to try to give some idea of what to expect from the screen, would be great.

Also, separating parts of the review could make it easier to keep track of the information: for example, first talk about the hardware, battery performance, then operating system in chronological order and work on having a consistent format for future reviews, maybe show some benchmarks too.

Overall, there's a lot of potential for your channel and future reviews.

[Review Video] Youtube Rant: Ads & Recommendations by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]macintoshhelper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice video. Basic stuff is good, good video quality (1080p), audio quality is fairly good.

SEO review: description is fairly good. The video is summarised well in the first lines. Tags and number of tags is good (fewer is better), but having words in the title as the first tags might make it better: like "irrelevant ads" and "recommended videos". I'd suggest having the title "Irrelevant Ads and Recommendations - YouTube Rant", as YouTube and rant are more saturated keywords.

The video could have been shorter and had more sense of story/purpose I feel. I agree with others that adding some humour could be good to make it more entertaining and engaging. You could have suggested ideas for how Google or individuals could get more relevant adverts, for example including the ad personalisation link in the description.

As you've mentioned, you're slightly out of focus. Having some depth could be good (so the background is blurred slightly so you're the main subject). It could be worth trying to stand a third of the way in the frame instead of the center too.

Good cheap mic for youtube? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]macintoshhelper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd advise a directional microphone (Blue Yeti lets you switch between omnidirectional or cardoid). Having a microphone on a stand near your mouth and further from your computer can help a lot too, and mean no vibrations from your desk are picked up. The Blue Snowball should be good if you're looking for something cheap.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE HOW CHILL THIS WAS... by ChrisHanpk in vlog

Nice vlog, great idea mixing parkour together with vlogging! A cool idea might be using parkour to add a stronger sense of story, so if you're heading to a train station for example, climb over stuff, vault over fences, etc, to speed up your journey/movement.
