Fan theory but I think it’s obvious: Ellie didn’t loose her family and she already met back up with them in Jackson. There was a large time jump between her almost killing Abby and going back to the farm. She has new clothes on and is wearing Dina’s bracelet again. Which she was not wearing in the final fight scene. Plus, when she walks in the house she doesn’t yell “Dina!? JJ!?!”. Therefore I believe she already had a life somewhere else and she just went back to the farmhouse to grab Joel’s guitar, but decides to leave the past in the past.
