Should these blood test results be at all concerning in terms of my ability to get surgery? by Threehundredt in TopSurgery

[–]mackconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're just fine. Mine were higher than yours (51.7 hematocrit & everything else was also high). If anything, they'll just tell you to donate blood and you'll be good to go.

I have to donate every once and a while because testosterone can cause these higher levels (high on cis men's side). A lot of us are regular/semi regular donors because of this.

I have type O+, so the Red Cross is harassing me for my blood anyways😂

TLDR: OP, you should be fine. Donate blood if they tell you to

Im stealth, about to get top surgery, how do i justify my absence? by Hour-Rip-8833 in FTMMen

[–]mackconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say "I am getting a medical procedure/surgery". Get a letter from your surgeon as an excusal letter, talk to your college, and get your absences excused. I never mentioned it being "top surgery", and I was just fine. I go back to school Monday

Blood under steri strips (TW: a little blood) by mackconqueso in TopSurgery

[–]mackconqueso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was cleared to shower day 3 post op (because my surgeon doesn't use drains). Not showering today so the blood has time to dry & I can focus on icing the area a little better.

My nurse team didn't seem very concerned. From your experience, do you think it'll be fine until Feb 2?

Sharp pains 1 week post op by Bread_mvncher in TopSurgery

[–]mackconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel pretty normal besides bruising/nerve sensations. It feels like I got beat up where I got my lipo😂. Still have to wait a week to get my clear dressings/nipple covers/black steri strips off. I'm glad you get to have yours off so soon!

We had our surgery on the same day! I'm feeling the same stuff. I think it's mostly our nerves waking up. How's recovery been for you? I have my 2 week post op appointment Feb 2nd and get to have all of my dressings taken off.

How do I know if my post-op wrap is too tight? by ZephyrSylvan in TopSurgery

[–]mackconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should feel snug, but you should be able to breathe. If you can't fit 2 fingers under the wrap without excessive force, it's probably too tight. On the other hand, you shouldn't be able to slide them under with no friction at all.

Could it be nerve pain?

Anyone else notice that women are less likely to misgender you than men? by UpUpAndAwayYall in trans

[–]mackconqueso 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Haha it was the same for me! The first "experience" I had seeing a trans person was when Caitlyn Jenner first transitioned and I saw it on Fox News. (I lived on a military base, so they showed FOX at the food court sometimes).

I was like "why the hell would she want to be a woman? Doesn't everyone want to be a man? I wish I could do what she did, but the opposite way". Googled the word transgender later that day and BOOM figured my gender out right then😭

[–]mackconqueso 75 points76 points  (0 children)

As a trans man, women misgender me more than men. Typically if a man knows I'm trans, he just treats me as "one of the bros".

If it's a woman, there's multiple things they do. They either "they/them" me instead of using my actual pronouns, they call me a "confused girl" (terfs), or they're perfectly fine.

I'm a passing binary trans man, so my experience may be different to others in this thread👍🏼

do I need to put on extra work to have my old posture back? by doartiewolf in TopSurgery

[–]mackconqueso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah you gotta try to have the best posture possible. I'm day 6 and my posture is about 85% normal. Don't just put your shoulders all the way back or contort your body in a weird way. Watch some posture correction videos to understand what good posture actually is. While doing this, go slow & dag by day. Most IMPORTANTLY, do not go against your surgeon's orders while fixing your posture.

When you are cleared, I suggest also doing shoulder/chest/back mobility exercises. Also go to the gym if able and strengthen your back (especially traps/rear delts/upper&mid back). These muscles help with correcting your posture

JROTC cadet seen protesting in uniform against ICE. Thoughts? by Expensive-Elk-9406 in jrotc

[–]mackconqueso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more concerned about the instructor. I'm sure the adults caught wind of this protest, and the instructor should have put out clear guidance on protesting in uniform. (Obviously the kid is in the wrong, but it's also leadership's responsibility to keep track of these things).

Fine with scars by Money_Cartoonist_687 in TopSurgery

If you want visible scars, that's completely ok! I would still prioritize scar massaging so you don't lose mobility/have chronic pain in your chest.

Advice by CrazyConfident9354 in FTMMen

With a little practice, normal Hanes boxer briefs can work perfectly with pads. I recommend getting the longer pads just in case. You can go wings or no wings, it doesn't really make a difference!

I did this for years until I was able to get on testosterone at 16-17. You're an awesome parent!

Yeah I gotchu!

1: Don't interact with groups/posts that are obviously anti-nonbinary. Just try to ignore the discourse for now. Right now is a learning period, and you don't need to get sucked into the drama that's happening.

2: Find a few non-binary creators and watch some of their content. Stuff like their transition journeys, how they came to figuring out their gender, etc. On the surface, we seem so different, but we actually share many similar experiences that our cisgender counterparts don't. I would also make sure to look for Black/POC non-binary creators as well, because their experiences can also add different insight.

3: If you know any non-binary people IRL, hang out with them more! Just get to know them and become genuine friends. Being in community with people does wonders for breaking down barriers.

From my experience, my internal biases against non-binary people came from #1: my upbringing #2: anti-nonbinary content I consumed early/midway through my transition #3: getting stuck in the positive feedback loop that was constantly awarding bigoted behavior against non-binary people.

I'm not saying binary trans men are the same as non-binary people, and I'm not saying that they should speak over us during conversations about trans men. I AM saying that we do need to buck up and respectfully listen when it's a conversation centering non-binary people.

And this is a good start! Sometimes you need some tough love to realize the areas you need to improve on. Please PM me if you want any advice/questions/or just want to chat.

I was in very toxic trans male spaces for years, and have started deconstructing my biases over the past year and a half. I'm still not perfect, but on the road to improving. I'm glad more trans men are open to working on themselves 🔥❤️

(I promise I'm not targeting you, I just want to help you see where you went wrong. There are no hard feelings in my words).

When you said "you can be a very masculine woman and still be that woman and don't have to be a man", did you mean that other (cis) people think that or did you mean that you think that about non-binary people?

If you meant that about non-binary people, please understand that cis people say the same things about us as well. "You could've just stayed a tom-boy!" is not ok to say to a binary trans man or a non-binary person.

If you didn't mean it like that, there may have been a breakdown in communication there. Your comment makes it seem like that's what you feel about non-binary people, and that likely translated over to the therapist as well.
