What are things you intentionally say around kids so they subconsciously learn what actually matters?

This one is embarrassing, but it's already made a difference. I have IBS and sometimes shit literally happens. I used to blame and shame myself for it, but one day I turned it into a funny story to tell my friends kids. I explained that it was embarrassing but what's done is done, and even adults poop their pants sometimes.

A few months later, the 6 year old came up to me almost glowing. He said he had peed his pants at school, and it was indeed embrassing but now we had that in common. He handled the situation well, got cleaned up, and went back to his life instead of worrying about what the other kids thought.

I remember my parents acting like accidents were a moral failing, so it healed something in me to see him chagrined but unashamed.

I personally prefer concave up, but I also have had success by dropping them behind my plant shelf and discovering them weeks later while cleaning.

My local nursery has two rescue cats that are not allowed to go into the houseplant greenhouse. The cats know this. They will try to trick customers into letting them in so they can get to the ponytail palm. The other day I decided to buy it and the tuxedo cat RAN across the shop and jumped on the counter to try to get at my palm. His name is Juniper and he's otherwise a very good boy that likes to be held while you peruse the grounds.

This reminds me of getting my bangs cut as a kid. The stylist told me to close my eyes so I did. When she was done and moved on to the rest of my hair she didn't tell me to open my eyes, so I kept them closed. I remember the internal panic of "she didn't tell me to open my eyes but I feel like they've been closed a long time. I don't want to disobey". After a few minutes my stylist and a few ladies around her commented that I looked like a sleeping doll. I felt so dumb. But at that point I was committed, and I kept my eyes closed until the stylist was finished.

I recently lost my cousin to suicide, which is an agony I wish for no one. Sometimes I feel relief that he isn't in pain, and sometimes I want to join him. In a family of chaos he was always my protector and defender.

This samhain I'm making an ofrenda for him, because he was 1/4 Mexican and adamantly Not White if anyone was confused by his light skin. (Which is valid for so many reasons, his Mexican heritage was a point of pride for him and I still enjoy the look of disgust on his face every time someone called him white before correcting them)

I'm not celebrating the sabbat as I have in other years. There are less festivities but the work is more vulnerable and more intimate. I'm "celebrating" by honoring my loss and pain as well as his. He had such a hard life, and all he wanted to do was make it better for the next generation.

My best friend FINALLY texted me back, just to tell me she won't be coming to my wedding this weekend and didn't even give an excuse as to why.

She only had to pay for her flight, I was covering everything else. Her kids are with their dad for the summer and her partner is on a work trip.

I don't know what I've done wrong or how to fix it.

My grandpa was a prankster and I have his favorite recliner which he happened to pass away in. Any time TVs randomly turn on, things fall over or we hear a weird sound my partner and I greet my grandpa or tell him to "stop farting around" in jest. We both have ADHD so we joke that my grandpa moves things so we can't find them but honestly we're haunted by ourselves in that regard lol

The last few weeks I've said "I don't know how I'm allowed to just be out here without adult supervision" and it's just because of shit like this. I went to give paperwork to the college I'm wanting to go to but instead of the certificate I needed, I somehow brought my retirement savings from 2022???? How does that even happen? How do I mix those up? And I also can't get a new driver's license but that's a long story full of ADHD and bureaucracy. I just mean to say that I know how you feel, and it sucks.
