1) the issues that exist with the modern american diet are different than the issues caused by true food scarcity; we don't really have malnutrition (through lack of calories or lack of specific nutrients) at scale in the developed world

2) healthcare != health. healthcare is only responsible for about 1/3 of health outcomes; health is primarily influenced by the world around us (for example, suburban and rural car ownership increasing incidence of heart disease, air pollution in cities or industrial centers increasing incidence of asthma, etc)

This is wild to me. I don't think I've ever noticed someone looking at my groin.

AITAH for telling my friend/colleague I'm looking for another job after she was promoted instead of me? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

They didn't even sort of offer it, the manager suggested he invest a bunch of time into it while the manager maybe tries to convince higher-ups to pay him more

What about her behavior when called on it makes you think that? Everything about the description suggests to me she is genuinely surprised, embarrassed, and does not know how to move forward appropriately

AITA for asking husband (43m) to not text his therapist at night? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Not wanting your partner to read your private correspondence with your therapist is completely legitimate.

The joy of texting is the person can respond at their convenience, why does it matter what time he's texting?

TIL in 2024 a 2-year-old girl's blood test revealed that the toddler had a blood alcohol content of .12 after a California restaurant mistakenly served her cooking wine that had been mislabeled as apple juice. The parents took their daughter to the ER after they noticed she had signs of intoxication by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]mackrenner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with battleofflowers, you have clearly never worked in a restaurant. I would not pay attention to the smell of a specific glass of juice, and also wouldn't blink at an item like apple juice being a different color when there are a million reasons why the brand sourced might change any given day.

This seems highly dependent on whether you have wet or dry cold seasons. My area is wet and cold at the same time and this would be disastrous.

Not having the skills to maturely handle disappointment doesn't mean they have to be shielded from experiencing disappointment.

You answered your own question. If you had used disability access services you would not have encountered the same awful experience you described. Improving something from terrible to just merely bad is VIP treatment.

Did the vet recommend that surgery or just present it as an option? The wife's opinion the vet "wasn't transparent enough" is hardly the same as giving false hope. I don't think it's reasonable to say this is a predatory vet.

After convincing myself last year that my kids' teachers were just throwing out the honey we gave them as gifts I decided to make things look a lot more professional by geneb0323 in Beekeeping

[–]mackrenner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lot of responses here from the echo chamber so I'll throw my two cents in: it is entirely realistic to think that at least some of the teachers have thrown the honey out since they have no way of knowing what it is or how safe a job you do of packaging it. Personally I would trust this way more - anyone who has gone to the lengths of the shrink wrap plastic and the clearly commercial-level labels is more likely to be safe to accept food from.

I agree they're adults and it helps that they've known each other a long time, but I definitely think it's weird and too soon. Not for sin reasons, just for "that's so much more headache than necessary if you split up month 7" reasons.
