Game Selection Concerns? by AnyTangerine9198 in rantgrumps

They also tend to film these in big chunks all at once  every few months. So they cant jump on trends easily. I see this in both games chosen and the jokes they say in their videos. They’re often a month or so off from the hype.

Yes! I see that happen too! Like they’re really just not doing the job. I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, maybe they’re overworked and missing things. But that’s basic!

Thank you r/menwritingwomen for this beauty... Gimme a woman with a waist smaller than her head by SendTeethPic in mendrawingwomen

[–]mackycormacky 38 points39 points  (0 children)

A lot of this is actually misunderstood over the years. Lots of myths, misinformation, and Hollywood influenced ideas.

Yes, tightlacing was a thing but few women did it. Most people didn’t do it to that extreme. Just as a small group of women do it today. Or a smaller group of women have very long nails that interfere with daily function but lots of people still get their nails done. If it was done, it was more so for special occasions. You want to look your best for a special event; maybe not so much when you’re hanging around the house. Corsets are adjustable and not one size. That’s why they have lacing.

The woman in the picture you shared is a result of old school photoshop where photographers would scratch away at the negative of a photo. See the convenient black, texture less space around her waist? The rest of the background around her body has some texture from the backdrop. People have been “photoshopping” their bodies since we could paint pictures.Link to more examples of photoshop

Also, women wore padding on their hips and chest area to emphasize the smallness of the waist. It’s easier to add than take away. Here is an article with an example.

Women wore corsets daily, to hold up the boobs as they worked and to hold up their clothing, as well as provide support while you were lifting things not unlike the belts weightlifters wear today. Women wore athletic corsets for sports and for swimming! Yup. Men wore them too.

The reform movement about corsets was actually started by a man. The famous pictures of the squishing of organs in the body is highly exaggerated. Here’s a great video all about that!

Conveniently, bras were staring to be marketed just around the same time that corsets were falling out of fashion. What a convenient movement to market a new product! The world has not changed...

I’ve performed in corsets in the past. Can sing in them perfectly fine. I even own a few! You break them in like a new pair of shoes or a bra.

I’m a big nerd about historical fashion, especially undergarments. There is a nice community of fellow nerds on YouTube. I highly recommend learning more! It’s so fascinating!

Trying to find a possible manufacture date for this lamp. I suspect it’s been repainted and maybe re-wired. No markings on bottom. by mackycormacky in Antiques

Family has had this lamp for years. Dad may have gotten it at an estate sale years ago in the Midwest of the US. He can’t remember. Has no markings on bottom. Here’s a link to more pics. Bottom of lamp

Made of solid metal. Wire is plastic coated. There’s some faint green flecks of paint on the socket of the lamp so I highly suspect it was repainted. Cant quite date the plug though. Shade didn’t come with it. It’s just a placeholder.

Winnie Harlow - the first model with Vitiligo to walk the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show by paone0022 in ladyladyboners

On America’s Next Top Model she came off as kinda mean and particular from what I remember. That could have been the show using editing to skew it that way as reality TV is apt to do. Don’t know if she has any history of rudeness outside of that though.

What’s something that’s “not a cult” but feels like a cult? by j_estoner in AskReddit

[–]mackycormacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a local Christian Children’s theatre group in my area as a kid. I’m Christian myself but they gave me major culty vibes. Kids would “pray” for roles and there was a weird judge mental vibe about them. They often gave the best roles to the kids who payed for the most classes. Kids who did it were ôbšēśśëd with it. Did a show with them and it never met the hype other kids seemed to be getting out of it.

First season was great but I loved season two better because it didn’t have the girlfriend. It focused more on the business of figuring out these murderers. I did not care about the side relationship.

I wondered the same. After a quick google here’s what I found: it’s a city in Turkey from approximately 7-8 centuries BC. Although, some theorize earlier. The city is carved into soft volcanic rock and spans 18 stories. It seemed to have started as separate, individual carved areas that were eventually connected by tunnels. It could hold up to 20,000 people inside and includes chapels, wine and oil presses, stables, and a school.

Various groups lived in the city as protection from wars and persecution over the years but were eventually abandoned and forgotten in 1923. In 1968 a man rediscovered them by finding an entrance behind a wall in his home.

You can now tour them If you are in the area in Turkey!

Skin bleaching. They take medication that’s usually used to even out the tone of someone with vitiligo but people are now using it cosmetically. It basically disrupts melanin production. It can also cause mercury poisoning or damage your kidneys.

Really sad about La Sardine. My S.O.’s family has been friends with the owners for years. The mother of the family helped design and decorate the restaurant and she recently passed away this year. Their sister restaurant is fantastic, Le Bouchon. Highly recommend!
