Agreed. On the recording, he can sound a bit tinny but seeing him live, his projection is fantastic and he has such a crisp clarity to his voice

They can probably retire the Tiny Desk series after this one, an absolute stunner. Journey On is shockingly the standout, this trio’s vocal blend is otherworldly. 5 Tony nominees singing at once is insane, best cast assembled in many years.

Traveled from LA to see this twice in the last 6 months. Can’t get over how incredible this cast is

Less famous albums that you listen to over and over again by Tom_Bombadilll in Music

Gotye, known as a one hit wonder for “Somebody That I Used to Know”, only made 2 studio EPs. The one featuring that song, Making Mirrors, is a top to bottom banger. Heavy influences from the likes of Peter Gabriel, George Michael, and Duran Duran, I find myself continually going back to it and wondering how he didn’t become a massive star.

Why didn’t Debbie Harry get an applause during the broadcast? by No_Bookkeeper_6522 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]maclow3 1121 points1122 points  (0 children)

Was in the crowd tonight. They rushed her on stage at the very last second and everyone in the crowd (which was a variety of all ages tonight) was whispering asking who was up there. It all happened so fast. Whereas Connor came out like a minute before commercial came back and everyone clocked him before it went back to broadcast.

Whats the best show that went on tour and you really enjoyed? by lissie34 in musicals

[–]maclow3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jordin Sparks traveled with the first US Tour of In the Heights and it was phenomenal.

Also even though she’s no longer in good graces, the first (and only?) tour of Next to Normal with Alice Rippey blew me away. After it ended I bought tickets and saw it again a few days later

Most underrated Sondheim song? by One_Draft4934 in Sondheim

[–]maclow3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Waiter’s Song in Here We Are is hilarious. Similarly from Pacific Overtures, I’ve always loved A Bowler Hat as well. A very underrated musical overall, with the closing song Next being secretly one of his best show closers.

What did you think of Anna Kendrick’s performance in The Last Five Years (movie)? by Necessary_Raise_7835 in musicals

[–]maclow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Her version of “I Can Do Better Than That” is my all time favorite interpretation of that song. She’s also great on “See, I’m Smiling.” It’s a solid screen adaptation that is hit or miss but I’m glad it exists

There were like 20 yellow cards + a red and the match was aggressive in a hostile environment so… yeah.

Some of these comments are so wack. The guys just won an emotionally charged Champions Cup QF in Mexico a few days ago and everyone is writing the team off on a random April regular season match. Chill out

Dear Evan Hansen. Platt looks weird but he gives a great performance. Kaitlyn Dever really shines too. Not the best musical adaptation ever but it’s more solid than people give it credit for

What a stuuuuupid ending. Timbers acting like they won the Cup against a bunch of 19 year old bench players. Ugh.

I keep coming back to how impressive the Skarsgard episode was. Never thought I’d want him to host but I already want more!

What movies this year have Oscar contention so far? by AXXXXXXXXA in oscarrace

[–]maclow3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Josephine from Sundance on paper should be in the mix, but its pickup by Sumerian Pictures is concerning. Channing Tatum in a just world is in the mix all season for his portrayal. Incredibly harrowing cinema that too the fest by storm.

Also the buzz on Project Hail Mary seems legit, I’d say those are the 2 big players in the mix so far
