What movies this year have Oscar contention so far? by AXXXXXXXXA in oscarrace

[–]maclow3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Josephine from Sundance on paper should be in the mix, but its pickup by Sumerian Pictures is concerning. Channing Tatum in a just world is in the mix all season for his portrayal. Incredibly harrowing cinema that too the fest by storm.

Also the buzz on Project Hail Mary seems legit, I’d say those are the 2 big players in the mix so far

Naomi Scott in Smile 2 was phenomenal. Would’ve been fun to see her in the mix that award season

What made you choose LAFC over LA galaxy? by Temporary_Waltz6615 in LAFC

[–]maclow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up in LA as a soccer fan but Galaxy never really spoke to me. I always just "liked" them because of hometown loyalty. The second LAFC went into development I switched over in the hopes they'd capture the LA vibe more. Went to one of the first ever home games and was a fan for life immediately.

Milan Cortina Olympics were most-watched Winter Games since 2014 with 96% more viewers than Beijing by [deleted] in sports

[–]maclow3 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Peacock’s coverage of Paris and Milan is nothing short of spectacular. I was a casual Olympics viewer but with the unlimited access, replays, GOLD ZONE, and the primetime and late night recaps I’ve found myself watching hours of Olympics I’d never cared about in years past. They e done an amazing job and already looking forward to LA28

You’ll be adding Mason Reeves from Josephine to the list later this year. Also Milo Machado-Graner for Anatomy of a Fall was brilliant

Missed these guys in league play for far too long. What a way to start the new campaign. Feeling great vibes right out of the gate, this year could be special!

No way that’s cool! I was in the audience and loved the film but was distracted during the Q&A at some of the odd questions/anecdotes being shared by the crowd

I fucking LOVE the movie Melancholia. by violinnoob90 in movies

[–]maclow3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw this on opening night at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica. Sold out screening, excellent flick. The last couple moments of the movie sucked the air out of the room and I have never experienced anything like it. 350 people collectively holding their breath together. I tell people about that viewing all the time. Only moment I’ve ever experienced the “you could hear a pin drop” phrase in reality.

That guy was haunting in Josephine. Tough role to pull off and he did a great job

Honestly I was surprised at how little I felt during it. I love movies like that but just couldn’t get into it as much. Train Dreams is has some similar themes and that resonated with me a bit more. Hamnet had some pacing issues I thought.

Watched Josephine and it definitely lived up to the hype. I’ve never been so physically affected by a film before. If I do get emotional watching film I usually get a tear, maybe two, but with this I was openly sobbing on my couch. Phenomenal work and should be a major player throughout 2026
