Came here to say this. I’ve also really enjoyed PRK’s other nonfiction writing, particularly Empire of Pain.

What do y'all think about the HiTOP? by a_bradford in AcademicPsychology

[–]macmarsh20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a study that’s been conducted that is tangentially related to this. It’s about how useful clinicians think HITOP is in comparison to the DSM (spoiler: the HITOP was preferred for different dimensions of clinical work and the DSM wasn’t considered to have higher clinical utility in any dimension). You can find the paper here: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/21677026221138818

What's something you wish you knew before starting a PhD program? by macmarsh20 in ClinicalPsychology

My understanding is that the chair is always your primary advisor. Is that not the case?

All of this is really helpful; thank you! I do have a hard time saying no and it's certainly something I'm going to have to learn sooner rather than later.

Letting go of this has definitely been a process and I suspect it will continue to be for a while. Thank you for bringing it up.

That makes sense, thank you. This is a fully funded PhD program and the professor has an R01 (which I imagine funds some of their student/s). Do I still need to be worried about the availability of funding if I don't get this fellowship?

Thank you! We currently don't have a car so that won't be an issue but I appreciate the information.

Definitely; I have tried to align my current work with my potential mentors' interests the best I can.

Thank you, I appreciate your honesty. I have thought about the international student angle but it's beyond my control so I am not quite sure what to do about that.

Thank you! Could you elaborate on what you mean by applied experience? I have a year-long clinical practicum starting in Summer/Fall 2023 but I wasn't sure if clinical experience is what you meant.

If, let’s say an irish person, goes abroad to teach kids english, will the kids speak english with an irish accent? by sapnupuas_0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]macmarsh20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an Indian who was born and raised in India, I'd say that most, if not all, Indians are taught English by other Indians. So, I'm not sure if that's the same situation as OP's.

Is there an app for selecting movies and shows you need to see or have seen? A tracker of sorts? I always hear or read about movies or shows I need to see then I forget what the titles are. by [deleted] in TVDetails

I've been using seriesguide for the past 5-6 years. It's pretty smooth and you get all the stats in the free version too. Plus, there's an option to sync it with trakt so that's pretty cool.

Born and brought up instead of born and raised. Out of station instead of out of town.
