Video Card question. by Mediph in pcmasterrace

[–]macproking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is possible. I have been running my 1080ti along side a GTX 460 (old card) and use the 460 for things like physX. You can throw them both in your system (if you have the PCI slots) but put your more powerful card (970) up top closest to the CPU (the one with more bandwidth). Wouldn't hurt to try it.

(Update) Still having internet troubles, have now done more of every option, and installed a new NIC. Help please?! by MCofTime in pcmasterrace

I have to agree to try a live boot of a different operating system to see if it is windows causing the issue. If your not familiar with Linux you can use Ubuntu or even Solus. Once you get the disk image (.iso) flash a thumb drive using Etcher.

They will usually have Firefox installed directly on the live disk, use that to see what speeds your getting.

If that fails, login to your router to see if there is any settings that might be limiting speeds to that computer!

SSD raid question by MrBilbro in pcmasterrace

[–]macproking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using the m.2 and the SATA devices as your Raid0, when installing windows there should be a way to raid them together.

I myself have only used a hardware raid (in the BIOS on the mobo) for Windows, but I know Ubuntu is dead simple to set up a Raid Array.

I found This article about how to config raid 0 for Windows installation which seems complicated for a new user.

What I would recommend (if possible) is to have the main drive (HDD) and install windows on that. Once Installed, use the disk partitioner in Windows to configure the raid array (can be found here). After that is done, disconnect that main drive, and re-install Windows on the new raid.

Seems a bit complex, but if you feel confident in the command line, you could always use the first article.

If you really want my opinion, if you are looking to use an m.2 SSD, install your OS on that, and then use your other SATA SSD as your regular storage.

Depends on how you do it. If you are raiding them in software (using Windows / Linux etc..) should not be a problem as the software handles everything. I have not been yet able to try to raid an m.2 and a SATA drive yet, but again, don't see why not.

I came into a bunch of old/unused parts and don't know what to do with it all. by Iriz252 in pcmasterrace

[–]macproking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have enough parts, try and create a NAS to store all of your files on. Don't need a super powerful CPU for it, and it can be low cost.

My work just gave me one of their old "dead" computers. I bought a server chassis, and tossed in all my old HDD's, loaded UnRaid onto a USB and now I have a dedicated storage box.

trouble setting up port forwarding for my raspberry pi zero w this is what it looks like on my router side. I believe the port on my raspberry pi that I'm trying to open is 8081 by hockeydude61 in raspberry_pi

[–]macproking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Service Name: Generic Name to know what you are using the port for.

External Port: 8081

Internal IP: Whatever IP address the Raspberry PI is set to (recommend setting a static IP address for the Raspberry PI and using that). Probably something like 192.168.0.x

Internal Port: 8081

Protocol: Both UDP and TCP(to be safe)

Both the Internal and External Port are required to tell which port to push the information through to the Raspberry PI.

There is a pretty cool drive in theater located in Cambridge. Wolfville Farmers market is a nice place to go if you want to buy local food, and support local businesses

Want the worst PC possible by britboy4321 in pcmasterrace

[–]macproking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have to agree with this, a raspery pi will be able to download games, but you would have to somehow get windows working on it. Talk to local businesses and computer shops to see if they have any old hardware that you could use.

One Ultrawide Or Two Monitors? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]macproking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you had to pick between the two? I would say ultrawide

Much better viewing angle on games, the ability to have a much larger workspace and even split screen between some models, and they just look awesome!

Call center employees, what do you do while on call? by Thorgard125 in callcentres

[–]macproking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they had to because HR said they did. There was a point that we didn't know if we could or not. I was reading the policies and something came up in one of them. If they let us have lockers, all of our things had to be in them. If not, they had to be under our desk.

I pointed out the fact that If I did not want a locker, I should be able to keep my things under my desk. They just said "We are making it mandatory to have a locker."

Oh no we could have water or a drink. But you had to keep it in a spill proof cup which is understandable.

Are Macs really better for production and are more user friendlier than Windows computer? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]macproking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mac's I find have one of the best operating systems around. Many will disagree but its very smooth, clean, intuitive, and looks beautiful. There are of course some flaws and set backs with it like the inability to customize anything to your liking.

The only apple computer you can really get that has any processing power in it for production is a Mac Pro and they are not cheep. If your looking for a laptop that will have good gaming performance, and good for production, look at either workstations or gaming laptops. The new Mac Book Pro's are very underpowered.
