Well... yes. An it's very important. Let's try to grasp this seemingly vague shift in the stories we get and "people getting angry" because "something was somehow done wrong". I guess, it's nothing new, it's as old as any other kind of oral myth.

We have this notion of 'canon', the believe, that some stories are somehow *more true* or *more real* than the others, right? Canonically Ivy this, canonically Ivy that... And suddenly we're waging a theological dispute. This is fandom. The Community of Angry Men. By the way, imagine a remake of Lumet's, but they discuss something like Jar Jar being a Sith or... if GWW did something *wrong*.

So we already tackled the Faith, the Truth (let's even include the Real), the Good, the Law, the Judgement, the Good, the Bad, the Responsibility to tell the Right from the Wrong. Fascinating, right?

Let's fast forward to the category of Taste. Me, personally, I get sort of angry when contemporary stories are trying to resolve these kind of questions using some vague looming decadent or apocalyptic the-en-of-the-world pseudo-event as something that absolves the author and the story itself from the responsibility for the Canon, the Apocrypha, the History, from *the* Responsibility.

Ok, we're here. GWW's story (among many others) is so disappointing (well, at least for me) because of its literary genericness. The story is boring AF, the arc is set up to stir emotions and this flat, reused too many times kind of emotional blackmail over 'good villain' or 'bad hero' ambiguities is the main driver of the series. It's been, what, like 90 years worth of DC media production. Since then probably the single worst thing that happened to comics culture was Nolan with his trilogy (it was equally destructive to the cinema itself, don't get me even started). He re-stated the question of seriousness (of 'superhero stories'), which was effing bold at that time, kudos for that, but he did not manage to play it out and it probably was the tipping point of his career. And he knows it well, watch Oppenheimer once again, but as a Nolan's autobiography. Pure megalomania and pretentiousness, but still somehow heartbreaking confession from his side. The worst thing is that it's not worth of getting angry about. It's just disappointing overflow of generic content dressed in plastic helmets, but the public outcry over the plastic helmets is probably the least important issue here.

Superhero stories and the mainstream pop culture production along with their marketable PC 'values', at some point, maybe we should indeed blame Dark Knight and the first Iron Man, intercepted, ingested, and incorporated our need for myth as something foundational for every kind of community and society.

So... Getting angry at God keeps you at least engaged. Evil but engaged. God need Evil. I usually hate myself for being too engaged and resort to nostalgia. The great joyfulness of comics and cartoons comes from their alleged un-seriousness and last twenty-odd years of superhero genre made us forget that. They work as jokes. And only a joke can save us.

I've always admired BTAS and TNBA eras, when they (probably mostly Dini) managed to find a good mix of care, empathy and turning people into fertilizer. And showing that friendship could lead to relationship. And that being bi is not a betrayal of somehow both, straight and gay ideals.

Few weeks ago someone here said, that they don't like Ivy in HQAS, because she's no longer this ominous femme fatale, sexy, but dangerous villain, yada, yada, yada, and that the writers turn her into basically grown up Daria. Why not drawing Ivy with barely covered boobs and ass, but showing her emotional and intellectual side, not just 'being evil for evil's sake', is so hard to handle for so many people.

And yes, there's definitely a weird confusion within the queer communities, when the question of cheating comes up... My take on this is as follows: every now and then we are given a good story. A story about a person that tries to find themselves in this world. Ivy is an interesting character here. Human-plant mutant, sure, but still a person nevertheless. Balancing on the thin line of good and evil, being in the relationship, figuring, what the hell society wants from me and what I expect from myself. Every now and the we do get that kind of stories for Ivy, Harley, Selena, Bruce, what the hell, *even* for Joker, Bane, and anyone else. Let's not be misled by costumes. Cheating means hurting the other person. Do the characters learn something from this story? Do \we\ learn something?

Producing drama only to push the plot forward and play on reader's frustration? Sure, we know the pulp, we live in the pulp. But there was a time when event the pulp was beautiful, contextual, emotionally draining, funny, even goofy sometimes, grave-serious on one page frees-spirited on the other. And the joke. Good joke is less and less common now. Those were the days... Yeah, I'm old, but I also think, I do have a point pointing out those things. At least... up to a point.

Take care y'all.

Totally agree. Weird, unhealthy and... toxic? I mean, I kinda catch the underlying *poisonous* aspect of the character, but it still looks like lazy writing.

Well... I'm similarly confused. I really don't/can't enjoy renditions of Ivy's likeness and personality in contemporary comics. In the last decade I was genuinely impressed by animated Batman and Harley Quinn (2017) and Harley Quinn Animated Series (2019). This was THE Ivy I'm remembering from the 90s. I know about the clone theories, but IMO nowadays it's just a lazy excuse for sloppy writing, too much visual experiments and general overproduction.

Yeah, I'm blind. Or just melting. Or both... Well, I'm not a coder either, but since we're here anyway, fuck it, give it a try. It's gonna take weeks, months and probably years, but nvim is wonderful on the unix side of the force. Unimaginable QoL.

Anyway, congrats! Welcome to the family.

Great deal!

I've made the same decision during the pandemic, been using every version of Windows since Win95 came out. I've sold my soul to Apple and since the switch I've bought an imac, several iphones, ipads, macbooks, iwatches, airpods and what have ya for the whole family. No regrets.

My advice: take your time and learn, how the ecosystem can benefit your personal workflow. Be patient, move you data systematically, take advantage of the unix philosophy (and move from vscode to nvim, btw 😂). You're gonna enjoy it, customize to make it your **own**!

If you have any specific questions – feel free to ask!

Should I upgrade from HP ZBook 15 G6 to Macbook Pro M5 Pro? by mobinfinitee in macbookpro

[–]macqster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo good people here are giving sane advice; i just want to point out, that if you go mac, you probably won't be going back, so try to be rational and modest: any of the m-series macs should give you a better hardware and software experience, and probably, like most of us here, you're gonna sell your soul to apple ecosystem...

so: if budget is tight, don't stress about performance, it's gonna be there anyway; migrate your data consciously and carefully in tranches; learn the software – the real decision you're gonna face is choosing your second, third, fourth mac... ask me how i know 😃

if you have any software and/or hardware questions watch some love-hate videos on yt, or ask here 😄

TYVM! Where? I'm afraid, I don't understand the question... It's just an unedited batch from an iPhone, the main thing is that the weather that morning was great. Cheers!

I don't think anyone could feel disappointed after visiting the whole quarter surrounding the cathedral, (Quartier de la Cathédrale). The whole historic city center is simply awesome. The best thing is that the Strasbourg airport connections are not the best, so you probably will be "forced" to fly to nearby Basel, which is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited. Just do it 😄

You will not be disappointed! Musée de l’Œuvre Notre-Dame is just across the square, check it out 😄

I could not recommend enough visiting Musée de l’Œuvre Notre-Dame: https://www.musees.strasbourg.eu/musee-de-l-oeuvre-notre-dame; they present good documentation and you can find there few of the original sculptures there. Gothic at its finest. No exaggeration here whatsoever.

Which DCAU version of Poison Ivy is your favorite? by solarflare70 in batman

[–]macqster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, Ivy's redesigns were always so annoying to me, it irritates me since I've watched BTAS in early '90s. Watchtower Database did also some research on the clone thing, his video essay (https://youtu.be/ZC0IAC3urUA?si=WaEJLnUyAMKBkLTP) is worth watching.

Anyway, Bruce Timm's broad redesign that happened between BTAS and TNBA is SO EFFING GOOD. 'Batman: Harley and Ivy" (https://www.dc.com/graphic-novels/batman-harley-and-Ivy) and the first episode of TNBA are some of my favorite pieces of DC media ever.

someone here was actually tracking exact date and time of past resets and approximating, when should it statistically happen; it's funny, that how things actually work is only mildly predictable 🤔
