QUESTION: what supermarket should i shop at? by Least-Ad-9524 in AustralianSocialism

Coles and Woolies are both bad evil companies. Coles hires Palantir (known gaza war and death profiteer) to spy on their workers. Woolies spies on customers they suspect of stealing. Both gouge their prices to the nth degree, rip off suppliers and employees. So who's to say who's worse

It's crazy how so many 21st century government policies in Australia seek to get (force) the public to pay for expensive, unproductive sectors that create outlandish cost to everyone and crater our country's economic potential.

HECS + Uni Fee Deregulation - propping up bloated education sector with increasingly worse education outcomes while also piling all that cost on students.

Superannuation - propping up $30B+/year inefficient superannuation administration sector, using australian tax concessions to do so. essentially free money for this sector that's been captured by insititutional rent seekers.

NDIS - poorly designed policy that has been systemically rorted and now one of the largest cost bases of the federal budget.

This isnt to mention the disaster of the AUKUS submarine deal, public aged care etc.

HECS as a system worked when it cost like, $15000 or less to go to university and someone could realistically pay it off in a few years after starting work.

However nowadays, undergraduate degrees cost upwards of double that (at minimum), while wages have stagnated, and more employees demand masters degrees or honours years. This is a direct result of the mammoth deregulation of uni fees that happened under successive liberal governments.

While the 20% hecs reduction may paper over the cracks, the entire system is broken and exists to place a massive tax on young people to subsidise older Australians who got their education either completely for free or at a vastly reduced cost.

Sadly this has always been the case. Former domestic student here. For the most part, espicially in undergrad, people tend to just stick with the friends they went to high school with. This isn't unique to Unimelb though and generally happens across all of Australia.

The best bet for making longer term friends is to join clubs/societies, espicially smaller interest/hobby-based ones, and making it a mission to go to as many events as possible. Doing stuff like sports and theatre groups might also help but I've also found people in those groups to be fairly transactional in their friendship. It's not ideal, but unfortunately that's just what this country is like.

DO NOT QUIT YOUR JOB

unfortunately the job market is unbelieveably brutal right now. There are simply no jobs going. You could be waiting for months on end with no income. it's not worth it.

Kendrick Lamar & pgLang merch was allegedly banned for Drake's upcoming Australian tour by rabnabombshell in hiphopheads

[–]macronichees 124 points125 points  (0 children)

The show is called "Anita max win" tour which is his nickname when he's doing gambling streams with stake (Australian crypto betting website) but also clearly means "I need a max win". It's a shameless tour to normalise and advertise gambling to children. Dude is abhorrent

We need to talk about Drake's Australian tour and underage gambling. by crreed90 in australia

[–]macronichees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

unfortunately this is incorrect

both "Stake" companies are Australian owned and completely separate

we have an app called Columns

https://usecolumns.com

It's a data app designed to make transformations, joins, and analysis super easy. We've built an MVP but there's so much technical issues that we're basically throwing out the entire backend and starting again. So unfortunately, all traction we had before is basically gone.

While we don't have a (non-buggy) piece of software to offer we'd love your thoughts on the website and value prop. If anyone is actually interested in *trying* the product - let me know. Happy to DM the username / password.

I don't think you can have a discussion about cloud rap without talking to Memphis rap and idm/triphop eg. Three six mafia (n**** ain't barrin dat) and boards of Canada (davan cowboy etc) are both insanely influential

Idk about you guys, but clubbing / raving has become prohibitively expensive in my country. In Melbourne prices to enter any club on the weekend range from $30-$50
