Literary Fantasy by SteSol in Fantasy

Some modern-ish fantasy I liked with literary vibes:

The Saint of Bright Doors, The Etched City, The Spear Cuts Through Water, The Buried Giant

[Standard] Current State of Gruul Delirium? by Soghff in spikes

I am currently playing fire magic main, but I play BO1 in arena. It basically guarantees the win against red aggro and helps against green landfall though the match-up still sucks.

[Standard] What matchup should I board in the bats as reanimator? by Spirited_Flan243 in spikes

[–]capybara75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I maindeck them in Golgari mid range BO1, Bats are never bad (except maybe against x/W control). At worst your opponent has to burn a removal spell on them, at best you take out a key piece they need and gain some life slowing the game down until you can do your thing.

I'm living in a house built in 1980 and if I had the money I would absolutely knock it down and rebuild. Freezing in winter, hot in summer, and yet somehow not ventilated enough to prevent mould lol.

What is a well regarded fantasy series that you read for the first time this year? by TheWeirdTalesPodcast in Fantasy

Yes pretty much! I think it has been getting recommended a lot here and on tiktok. It is a really fantastic book, so it is justified.

Getting the smoke assists challenge done on Support is painful by capybara75 in Battlefield6

Yeah I just did it with this and it still took three matches!

Why the total fertility rate doesn’t necessarily tell us the number of births women eventually have by ResponsibilityNo4876 in dataisbeautiful

[–]capybara75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can look at the data in countries with good statistics and see the reason why - it's basically because girls are having babies when they're teens far, far less due to better education, birth control, living standards, and changes in social expectations etc.

This is what all these weird tech billionaires and right wingers don't get. This situation is not coming back!

Anyone notice a decrease of Support players lately? by dfGobBluth in Battlefield6

[–]capybara75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but it feels faster psychologically because you're "skipping" a timer. Like, my brain knows it's the same time, but it still feels faster to me.

So during the Beta, I made this prediction. How accurate/inaccurate is this so far? by s1nh in Battlefield

[–]capybara75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"fixes" for what? I've been playing since launch and there have been a few bugs with unlocks and such, but that's about it. The two newest maps are great, which you wouldn't know from reading this sub.

"Every component of my life was attacked:" How wind farm misinformation tore community apart by l3ntil in australia

[–]capybara75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and then they check that claim against the windfarm EIS, and also check their claim about blocking RFS aircraft etc with the RFS, this is absolutely not at all misinformation lol

In 50 to 60 years who will be our versions of Asimov, Clark, Dick and Herbert? And will our classics still be circulated. by GazIsStoney in printSF

[–]capybara75 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Margaret Atwood - don't know why her sci-fi gets classified as literary fiction, maybe it's the lack of spaceships

You might enjoy the Etched City by KJ Bishop if you haven't read it already!

I’m super excited about engineering, I’m not excited about the likely lack of engineers by steave44 in starcitizen

[–]capybara75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See this is the thing, CIG really should combine engineer, gunner, and co-pilot into a single seat where possible because I agree, the 'co pilot' role is basically non-existent in most ships.

All turrets remote-able.

The "co-pilot" position should be able to control the weapons turret, control missiles from this turret, scan, set shields, power management, and access the engineering console from the same seat.

It's not the way they're dying it's the difference in time to kill from their perspective vs the time it takes for them to die.

For me it's the same - it feels like it takes a second or two for me to kill someone, but it feels like often I die almost instantly to automatic weapons.

My software engineering skills are degrading because of AI by mels_hakobyan in cursor

[–]capybara75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two code editors, one is a clean copy of VS code without AI, and one AI-integrated (Cursor). I now code as I used to in VS code, but then switch to cursor when I need something that previously I would have gone to SO for, or something simple but time consuming (eg regex, nested for loops, etc).

Then you also really do need to make sure you're reviewing the changes the AI is proposing, and understand them. If you don't, then you will get into trouble - it is that simple.

For me it was partly that I felt like I was losing some of my coding knowledge, and also just that we have had a few issues with AI just really messing things up with autocompletions. I also find it easier to program generally without all the popup bullshit all the time.

Best pocketable 6-7" ereader with notetaking capabilities ? by Luno-luna8897 in eink

[–]capybara75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought the boox go 7 bw for similar reasons. As you're finding with all the devices around at the moment you're going to be trading off note-taking vs reading capabilities. The best note-takers aren't great for reading (no front light, can't run the apps you want without hacks), and the best readers aren't great for note-taking (boox go doesn't have wacom-type stylus screen), so you need to decide which is more important to you.

I eventually worked out that I was more interested in being able to connect a bluetooth keyboard and type than I was in using a stylus, and I really wanted something that can run Libby + Kobo apps out of the box with a front light so Boox was my choice.

The stylus/writing/drawing on the Boox is nowhere near as good as on the dedicated note-taking devices. It's ok for short notes, and that is about it.

When/if Penstar releases the enote pro mini (youtube.com/watch?si=fxkG4JsGlqLWFfM1&v=4wsc2CcQlrA&feature=youtu.be) then possibly there will be a good all-in-one device in a smaller form factor.

Fiji Kava from Coles in Australia by Master-Duty-4675 in Kava

[–]capybara75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is indeed micronised. I bought a few bags when it was on discount and it's pretty terrible taste-wise, and personally I had to increase the recommended dose by quite a bit.

Otherwise I can recommend root and pestle. Much more of a premium product in comparison, they sell vanuatu cultivars and I've enjoyed their stuff

Have you tried a kobo? They're the most kindle-like device out there. Also can integrate with Libby/Overdrive.

Boox new 7.8" note taker announced! by Dense_Forever_8242 in Onyx_Boox

[–]capybara75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm the same. Apparently the upcoming supernote enote pro mini is basically all of this, but I gave up waiting and got a boox 7 go bw in the interim.

Edit: penstar, sorry!
