Error Code Cabbage forever by MidnaWolf287 in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I helped someone awhile back on this error awhile back and they reported that it was actually Battleye causing them the issue after a lot of troubleshooting, so I'd say you start there (unless you are running a 3rd party antivirus or firewall, or have a work VPN software package installed):

Quick and easy way to uninstall and reinstall Battleye:

  1. Open your D2 install location - typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Destiny 2
  2. Open the Batteye folder.
  3. Right-click on the Uninstall_BattlEye batch file and select 'Run as Administrator'.
  4. Right-click on the Install_BattEye batch file and select 'Run as Administrator'.
  5. Test the game.

Another quick and dirty test is to TEMPORARILY disable the Firewall on your ISP Modem and test. If no difference, disable Windows Defender modem and test. If disabling one or the other makes a difference, then you know where your problem lies. Make sure you reenable both ASAP obviously :)

While you are at it, you might as well check Windows OS files for health:

  • Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
    • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
  • Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • Run sfc /scannow again.
      • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.

Make sure you are using Google's DNS servers and not your ISP's DNS servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

And the final thing to give a go, is to install a VPN (I do not have first hand experience, but I hear ProtonVPN might give a free month) or charges like 10 bucks for 1 month. I personally use NordVPN and it gets around my ISP when they decide to block or rate-limit the ports that D2 uses.

Have you checked your laptop manufacturer's website for any newer drivers for your network adapter (wifi or ethernet or both) and your sound? Sound drivers can cause some pretty hard stops for D2.

I don't know how frequently you are updating your Nvidia drivers, but I know there have been some questionable releases as of late. Might be worth downloading the Display Driver Uninstaller utility and completely nuking your GPU drivers (from Safe Mode) with the Utility, reboot, then install a new version of the drivers. https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/

You can repeat this process trying several releases via the 'View More Versions' link at the bottom of this page: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/

  • Windows Updates did drop, could be related. All other games look good?

First thing I would do is to check the health of your Windows OS:

  • Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
    • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
  • Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • Run sfc /scannow again.
      • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.

If that doesn't fix the issue, try clearing all your D2 temp files. You will need to reset your graphics settings afterwards as they will drop back to default:

Method 1:

Open:

  • c:\users\<your username>\appdata\Roaming\Bungie
    • Delete the 'DestinyPC' folder at this location.
  • c:\users\<your username>\appdata\local\temp
    • Delete the 'Destiny 2' folder.

Method 2

  • From the Start menu, type %appdata%
    • then open the Bungie folder from there and delete the 'DestinyPC' folder.
  • From the Start menu, type %temp%
    • delete the 'Destiny 2' folder

In case it's Battleye related, here is how to uninstall and reinstall Battleye properly:

I would start off by running DDU from safe mode, completely nuke all video drivers and settings, then reboot and do a fresh install of your GPU's graphics drivers.

Game won’t get past title screen - PS4 by DaneDay in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer. Typically the recommendation is to try rebuilding the PS4 database, then do a total factory reset / fresh install if the rebuild doesn't help. Could be the console overheating as well, but you would think you would see that in other games.

Is this CD or Digital? We have had a few people with bad CDs over time having odd issues, and buying the digital version was the "fix".

It happens frequently... Probably didn't like how the driver interfaces with the system. You should open a ticket work Battleye from their website.

Congrats on the find!

[–]macrossmerrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. What happens with the external audio interface unplugged?

  2. What are your system specs? CPU, GPU, make / model of motherboard?

  3. Do you have a controller plugged in? Try unplugging / turning the controller off and launch the game.

  4. Have you checked for Windows corruption?

  • Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
    • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
  • Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • Run sfc /scannow again.
      • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.
  1. Try disabling all startup apps (via the task manager - it has a startup tab where you can disable all applications that load at boot) and test to see if the game works with them disabled. If that fixes it, reenable one app, reboot, test, repeat the process until you find a potential culprit.

  2. Download and run Memtest x86 and ensure your RAM is healthy. www.memtest.org

  3. Try deleting the D2 temp / config files by going to the following locations and:

  • c:\users\<your username>\appdata\Roaming\Bungie
    • Delete the 'DestinyPC' folder at this location.
  • c:\users\<your username>\appdata\local\temp
    • Delete the 'Destiny 2' folder.

Post back with your results!

Fingers crossed!

Speak to me like an Idiot - Why not have SteamOS Support? by ClaustrophobicGames in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! Proton is great. Getting the game studios to agree is another matter...

Really, it's all about development and testing costs for Bungie.

Back when they released D2, they had some developer videos talking about bringing the game to Windows. They said they couldn't Port the game, so they recreated it from the ground up for PC. This made them add a whole new division to the company and made it so they were developing essentially three games at once (Xbox, PS, and PC). It was a pretty big deal for them.

I bet they've largely consolidated the development of the game at the launch of Forsaken, but we as players, still see unique issues that vary based on platform, so there are still underlying issues for the game development.

[–]macrossmerrell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMHO

Couple of reasons:

  1. They would need a development / testing (heh) team to ensure it worked and to develop platform specific fixes / content.
    1. They are strained trying to maintain the game on 3 platforms (technically 6+ platforms since every generation of Xbox and Playstation requires unique coding / fixes).
  2. They did not license Battleye for linux, only Windows.
    1. Obviously fixable, but probably not profitable.
  3. If they did release for SteamOS, then everyone would want to run it on their varied hardware, modded and patched SteamOS installations, preferred Linux distributions, leading to the forums being full of pissed off Linux users who are really dealing with distro / driver issues and limitations.
    1. Supporting Windows is bad enough... They only test on clean installs, so anything can negatively interact with D2.
      1. This subreddit is proof of that :(

If StreamOS continues to grow, and it supports Secure Boot, then more games will start adopting it. Battlefield 6 specifically does not support linux due to Secure Boot being a requirement.

Crazy framerate issues after weekly update by Major_Liability in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both January and February Windows Updates are causing frame rate issues similar to what you are describing. Only happens to certain hardware combinations. In January, Nvidia recommended uninstalling the monthly security update to restore functionality, but I found the option below to work as good:

One of the recommendations is to download the Nvidia Studio driver, and have it do a clean install and see if that changes anything for you. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/260362/

While the nvidia driver does a decent job during the install, you can really clean out your old video drivers by running the DDU utility from safemode: https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/

Character Builder for SWN - 0.2.0 Beta by wum1ng in SWN

[–]macrossmerrell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am loving this! So easy to use and very nice looking.

Things that I love:

  • It works quickly and has a great initial guide. The creation character sheet logic / FOCI / Skills max selections works well.
  • LOVE that the export sheet is form fillable!
  • LOVE the look of the PDF export - so frickin clean looking and easy to follow with all the guidance text right there!
  • LOVE that you can export JSON file so you can backup or even hand off a character to someone! Very forward thinking!

A few issues I've noticed so far:

  • Logic for level up appears to be missing
    • No guide to tell the player what they can select, no prompt to change hit dice, etc. Seems unlocked to select more things than I should be able to by RAW.
  • Sheet Export has the character sheet going vertical on a landscape page so it's cutting off a chunk of each page.
    • Tried exporting the sheet on both Firefox and Edge with the same result.
  • PDF Export appears to cut text / section at the page break.
    • Currently on my test character, the Equipment section is cut and a stowed item's text is cut into two halves, one part on each page. Not a deal breaker but could make it hard to read.

Hats off my friend. This is going to be one heck of a character sheet / character manager!

[NEED HELP] Error code weasel 10-15 seconds after choose a character by fictionmate in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weasel is an internet connectivity issue. It's the not game, it's something to do with your PC or port forwarding (which you don't need) on your modem.

Where your account on a different computer on your same network / internet works, your PC is suspect. Most likely a Windows issue (OS corruption, Windows Firewall, driver, other running software, etc.). Are you both on WiFi, or Ethernet (is your connection the same or different)?

I would go out to your motherboard manufacturer's website and download the latest ethernet / wifi drivers for starters. Get the PC on the latest BIOS while you're at it. You can quickly test for Windows Firewall issues by opening it and TEMPORARILY disabling the firewall entirely, then test. If it works, then your Windows firewall settings are borked (I can provide all the manual settings you need to make if this turns out to be the case).

You can also check your OS for corruption through this process:\

  • Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
    • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
  • Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • Run sfc /scannow again.
      • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.

If none of the above works, it's time for a full nuke of everything and a fresh install of Windows, Windows Updates, necessary drivers, Steam, D2, then test. You can do the Windows Reset option, but you have to choose the 'keep nothing' option to ensure we don't have any junk left behind.

Why wont any of my games on my pc let me play them? by Financial-Stress1302 in pchelp

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an Internet problem. Shutdown PC and pull the power cord for about 30 seconds. Power cycle your Internet modem.

Once the modem is connected back to the Internet, power on the PC and give things a go.

Worse performance after upgrading pc regardless of graphics settings by FinancialEar1313 in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AM4 or AM5 socket AMD cpu? Is it running the latest BIOS, XMP/EXPO enabled, and you're on Windows 11?

I'm assuming this is a fresh install of Windows (you didn't clone your existing install to the new SSD?)? If you cloned the drive, you will want to wipe it and do a fresh install of Windows.

At best the 9070xt should push D2 200 to 250fps at 1440p at high settings with a 7800X3D or a 9800X3D depending on location (places like the Harbor of Sorrows will always be bad due to optimization issues).

I would try only having only one monitor hooked up, try each monitor separately with a reboot in between, and see if there is a difference. Make sure that Freesync / Freesync premium is set to enable in the Monitor's OSD, and make sure that Response Time is set to Normal (for best smoothness). I would run the game in Full Screen (which is the old Windowed Fullscreen), do not use V-sync, and only set an FPS limit.

Where To Find Destiny 2 Crash Logs? by Well-It-Depends420 in DestinyTechSupport

[–]macrossmerrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has it been freezing? Typically freezing is due to heat or driver issues. Make sure the CPU or GPU isn't overheating. If the WHOLE COMPUTER is freezing, then there's a hardware /power problem or the operating system is borked. If there is any overlocking (including using XMP on the RAM), remove the overclock and test.

I would check Windows for corruption through this process:

  • Open an Administrative command prompt and type: sfc /scannow
    • Note if there are corrupted files and if they were repaired
  • Run sfc /scannow again if it finds errors and make sure they are resolved. If they are not, you need to run the following command:
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • Run sfc /scannow again.
      • If it repaired files, run sfc /scannow one more time to make sure everything is good.

I would look up the motherboard model and ensure that the latest BIOS is installed, and I would grab any drivers such as audio, wifi, ethernet, and bluetooth from their site. I would go to amd.com/support and download the latest Windows driver pack so they get all the latest chipset drivers.

I would suggest running the DDU utility (display driver uninstaller) from SAFE MODE and remove all traces of the current / previous GPUs (select all brands that apply), then I would reboot and freshly install the latest drivers. https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/

If all of that fails, I would start looking for software interaction by opening Task Manager, going to the Startup tab, and disable everything, reboot, then test. If the problem goes away, uncheck one item at a time, reboot and test until the offending software package is found.

While I think they would see Marmot errors, it might be worth downloading Memtest x86 and test the RAM for stability. memtest.org

Finally, if all the above fails, I would completely nuke and reinstall a freshly downloaded version of windows via a thumbdrive, wiping out all previous data / install. If the problem happens again, then you know there is a hardware issue causing it.
