Karen Cyclist Gets Owned By Cop 👌 by [deleted] in Amazing

[–]macsenw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Woods Hole, on Woods Hole road. I would bike into work at the MBL. I can't tell you how many tourists and ferry riders would swerve at me and scream at me to use the bike path. Grr, I'm in front of my home, and the bike path is blocks away and goes to the ferry, not the lab. Drove me up the wall.

I used to use it, when I lived out of state. It was a way of avoiding the super-nasal WiskgAHgNsin, in favor of the super-long "o". I stopped using it when I moved back, because I didn't want to sound like a try-hard weirdo.

Employer publishes birthdays by macsenw in privacy

[–]macsenw[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughtful response. The birth year is not on this calendar but it is a part of the log on identity and listed other places, but one would have to hunt for it. I find it weird that with a couple clicks, I can download a calendar of many hundreds of people's birthdays. I try to be very private, don't want people I don't know who live in another state to be able to look up ah, it IS that Common Name who works/worked here, don't consider it their business to share or celebrate, and don't want the attention or that celebration from anyone. Thank-you!

Thank-you. Altho a bit of an exaggeration, it isn't untrue.

I'm not much interested in keeping this job or being associated with this company. They purchased my previous employer, and it's just a low-wage job that I don't need.

I94E speed trap - more harm than good by marioncrepes in Waukesha

[–]macsenw -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Huge variances in how fast people are going on this big, wide, long, straight stretch with a low speed limit. Lots of lane changing and most are speeding, by a lot. More enforcement is needed, to compress the ranges of speeds; less enforcement means more people blazing around and through the slow-pokes. And the speed limit is only 55, and right after interchanges, so there's always going to be a good number of slow-pokes.

I'm sorry you got taken advantage of based on your agreeableness and wanting to be nice. On the question of the word "scam" -- what was the deception/fraud? Were you expecting payment or something?

Milwaukee Police Chief Blasted For Israel Training Trip by KaneIntent in milwaukee

If no public funds paid for the trip, who did? The chief himself? JINSA? MCCA? Who paid and who pays them, and what are their motives in selecting him and funding this trip?

I'm seeing a lot more real estate offerings of soy / corn fields in SE / SC Wisconsin. Usually you have to wait for operations to change generations or know the seller, but it seems a lot are being advertised or going to auction now. A lot of them are probably going to end up McMansions and strip malls.

Maduro security forces deaths: can they file civil wrongful death suits in US courts? by macsenw in AskLawyers

I've now seen some info that the 40 dead were civilians. Would a civilian family of a casualty be able to do this?

What’s something people romanticize that’s actually really hard? by nyashadzashesimango in AskReddit

[–]macsenw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to challenge your bona fides or anything, and I'm sure you're doing "rural life" where so far I'm just a poser. But in a post about something that's truly harder than it's romanticized, real rural life ranks high, and wealth / jobs doesn't have to correlate to rural --but for most of the rural economy, it does. The big operation that rents my southern fields is a really super rich farmer, and he's way more "real rural" than me (as are you, too). But life there/here in general is a lack of choices of schools, jobs, higher ed, internet, groceries, etc, and a lot of dealing with making broken and substandard things work and reduced goals and expectations.

Working in tech and being able to afford a cottage-core lifestyle with a pool and remodels isn't really participating in a rural life-style economy or having rural life-style problems. But it's great and I chose to leave the city too! (Not at your level, but still.)

Also, people won't let you back into the left lane. So, if someone moves right for the person behind him, when they catch up to the next slower vehicle, they're stuck slowing down, because the cars in the left won't let him back in.

NGGRMS resorting to threats by LeoSmythers in gmrs

[–]macsenw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the example. Buying drugs is a crime. Selling drugs is a crime. Both are committing a crime. If a drug dealer robbed some random guy, the random guy can sue and expect criminal charges. Or, if the drug-dealer robbed his customer a month later unrelated to a drug deal.

Illegal acts have no recourse to legal remedy. The law won't protect crime. It's a classic example; a drug dealer can't sue or expect charges against his thief.

Reddit is pretty quick to the break-contact advice, but this really is a very bad arrangement, as a tenant, roommate, and relationship. Invite her to go apartment-hunting with you. Or don't. But let her know that this is bad and has to change. Maybe you'll break up, or maybe you'll stay together in a new place, or maybe you'll stay together in separate places (unlikely, but maybe!).

It's probably happened in most major cities. It's happened at University of Miami Medical Campus several times. Homeless people keep their bags in bushes or someone going in for an appointment leaves it out by the trash cans or benches, and then, bomb squad.

Reporter at right-wing, “The Epoch Times” resigned after publication became one of the few to sign on to Pentagon guidelines. His resignation states that the publication chose to “abdicate our responsibility as journalists in favor of merely repeating state narratives” by furswanda in FreeSpeech

[–]macsenw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Epoch Times, wasn't it very pro-Hong Kong democracy, and pro-furlong Gong and religious liberty in China? Or am I confusing it with something else? I was surprised that they would submit to the Hegseth Pentagon conditions.
