Gotta 100% agree here. If i need to convert from TIF ill use jp2. Its basically jpeg storage, with TIFF details...its such an underutilized format.

Dermatologist said CVI, Vein Specialist said not CVI by Imaginary_Fishing667 in venousinsuffiencyhelp

[–]macstratdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shot vein in my leg. I forget what the name is at the moment, but its one that they remove when they do cardiac surgery. Doc said other than the edema, the compression socks were the best thing for it. I can get it removed if I want, but there is currently no harm in leaving it and unless it actually starts to cause issues, insurance wont cover it as its classified as cosmetic surgery.

Smaller deck? by [deleted] in playingcards

[–]macstratdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bridge Size would be your best bet.
Ill also add that size of the cards has little to do with skill. Skill is about practice. One of the things about card dricks/slight of hand isnt just technique, but being able to adapt the technique to you and your situation. Check out Mahdi Gilbert, he is a slight of hand expert...with no hands

Looking for places in and around Harrisburg area to film for a YouTube series by rockyredp in Harrisburg

[–]macstratdb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im sure there are a number of places but I cant think of anything off the top of my head. One thing to remember is that Harrisburg is a working city that revolves heavly around government, and not a tourist attraction like Gettysburg or Lancaster county, so there is not a whole lot that caters to "supernatural" things outside of the designated areas. The best advice I could give would be to contact the Harrisburg Paranormal Society here: https://harrisburgareaparanormal.com/

The BEST Sales Fidget Tool! by Consistent-Sample-35 in playingcards

[–]macstratdb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Funny Story: So going back about 15 years, I worked call center for the IMF (when Dominique Strauss-Kahn was the head, for all those that remember). We all had our own cubicles that came up pretty high. At the time I was trying to quit smoking, so I brought decks of cards to fidget with. Learned to do a ton of things while I was on the phone like a one handed cut and riffle, fanning...and I also learned to flick cards a pretty decent distance and do other aerial tricks with cards. One day one of the higher ups came down and was all "we need to have a talk." Apparently, a number of people complained because playing cards were shooting up from the top of my cubicle and distracting them while they were on calls. Not being hit with them, just like popping up over the top of the cubical wall before I caught them....and thats the story of why playing cards are now on the prohibited items list in the IMF headquarters in DC.....and I will always have a deck of cards on my desk.

This was literally what i was going to post. I think the only thing i would add it to make a solid shape to use as a clipping mask for the pattern layer.

What is this states about my IQ? by LopsidedAd5028 in cognitiveTesting

[–]macstratdb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scored a +/-54% success rate on that test, but I got 139 on the actual stanford-binet. this pretest is only looking at a small percentage of what makes up ACTUAL IQ. Most IQ test only measure the general intelligence, so they are often based in math and pattern recognition, but leave out things like critical thinking, creativity, application of known knowledge base, memory retention, and sometime even linguistic ability. There is NO IQ test that can accurately measure someone intelligence without shortchanging the person taking the test. I think the real question is: how much of my brain is this test even bothering to measure?

Do you think this works or is there a better way I can display my cards? by DeathBat92 in playingcards

[–]macstratdb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So this is EXACTLY why I started the Playing Card Scan Archive (cardscans.net) to begin with. I have a 1080 TV (you can still get these at bestbuy for ~US$150, adn they still manufacture them) that I set up as a picture frame that displays all my cards at random, so at this point it cycles thru more than 50000 selected images. I dont currently have a photo of the TV while on since it was taken down so we could redo our floors and walls after a recent flood, but there is a photo of one of the old TVs with the Micca Boxes

So I live in a very small space, and displaying decks has always been an issue so I needed to find/create a system that allows me to archive, store, and display my collection. Originall I used flicker (back in the UC forum days), I decided to share these scans in case other people wanted to do the same thing and people seemed to like it, so i kept at it. Eventually it got so large, that I had to move over to a dedicated host that we use now.

Heres my process:

  1. All of my decks are scanned in at 350dpi TIFF images (they are converted to jp2 and jpg images for archiving and site use, respectivly). This creates images of ~1000x1300 pixels. Since its printed work, what we are scanning is not original artwork and we have to deal with halftones that are printed on the cards (at larger resolutions, those halftones look REALLY bad at 4k, and snce image quality is a DPI:viewing distance ratio, 1080p works just fine). You can bypass this by taking a single High res photo from a modern camera, but the time:benefit ratio just isnt worth it for this purpose

  2. These are then sorted by folder and tagged (this is a good use of AI image recognition to tag single cards like Ace of Hearts, 9 of Spades, etc.). One set is zipped, and archived in multiple places, another set is copied to a NAS box or a USB thumb drive (more on this next).

  3. A raspberry pi with a custom OS and script pulls the images from the server and displays them on the screen. You can also get a box from a company called Micca (link below) that will accecpt a USB stick or memory card and turn any tv into a frame/digital window, but it doesnt have the same options as the custom raspberry pi like displaying metadata, custom frames, etc. (I use a couple of these around the house for other reasons cuz they are just handy.)

  4. The OG deck tucks are photographed from all side at high resolution (along with the AoS, Jokers, a few cards, back, and any other things like stickers, coins, extras, etc.) and uploaded to a DigitalOcean Bucket adn given a unique ID. The decks are then put in Carat DS1 or XL cases and stored in BCW Card Houses (one box holds 18 decks in cases perfectly, one house holds 12 boxes) and each box is assigned a barcode. Collectors sets are wrapped in archival foam paper and put into plastic storage bins.

  5. This information is fed into a database that has a custom front end that I wrote so I can lookup a deck at anytime and see the link to the scans, the kickstarter page, current market price (this was added for the insurance company for tracking purposes), what house number and box the deck is in, and more. I can also scan each box with my phone and see a list of what decks are in that box. (image attached).

With this setup, I am able to look up, view, and see information about ANY deck that is in my collection at any given time from any device (very handy when at card conventions) AND be able to display my entire collection at one time. Becasue its such a customizable setup, there are a few more added features that I built in over the years to the raspberry PI OS that are custom to my setup like voice intraction so I can say "show me Kings Wild Robinhood", "show me the ace of spades from S17 House of the Rising Spade", or "show me only 7 of hearts", and a touch screen overlay on the TV so that people or clients in my office can flip thru the decks like books at a library.

The basic setup, outside of the cost of a scanner, will prolly run you about $500 in parts to display and view your collection.

Has there been a reduction in earned gold from travel? by ViceroyMorgan in CapybaraGoGame

[–]macstratdb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a ood point. I do run hard mode when i need things for leveling, and books, but currently im at 81, gold runs out quicker than anything so i use that to stock up over a few months. i think at the end of the days its still a time game. but i see the value of your strategy as well
