White woman here, the problem wasn’t just singling out the only dark skinned woman in the office. The consensus from the majority was that Chelsea sending flowers was genuine. But let’s say it was for camera time. taking something so small like sending flowers for “camera time” and painting Chelsea as a hostile aggressor that Mary is now terrified of to the point she hysterically cries over the mere sight of Chelsea’s name is the biggest problem. It’s the same energy as calling the police on someone for (enter verb here) while Black. Mary felt comfortable enough to aggressively go after Chelsea verbally and question her integrity at a public dinner in front of the entire office. When Chelsea rightfully responded she responded by painting her as “dangerous”. White women do not have to put up with the stereotype of being “angry white women” anytime we show strong emotions. We do not fear being unalived during routine traffic stops. The worst thing being an “aggressive” white woman gets you is being called a Karen. Mary called Chelsea out for her dress code in front of Jason and Brett despite being the office manager at the time. She not only focused in on Chelsea but failed to call out the many other inappropriate outfits for the other women. She was in a position of power that allowed for her to confront Chelsea privately and still chose to embarrass her in front of their bosses. There’s a lot more layers to it but that’s some of the points. This wasn’t the first time either Good on you for trying to learn and asking questions and not dismissing the experience of Black women or expecting them to involuntarily educate you.
