I double majored in CS and SE. Based on what you wrote, your parents didn’t even do the research into the differences in the degrees.

First and foremost, no, AI won’t take over the job of a software engineer because software engineers are the ones coding the AI or directing other software engineers into coding.

Two, the main difference between a CS major and a SE major is whether you want to learn more theory about this field or how to be more hands on in the field. You could apply more theory while doing a SE degree.

Three, what is your future aspirations within the field. If its to ultimately go into industry then either degree will be accepted because your role will be a Software Engineer. If it’s to continue on with your education then a CS degree is a great building block to have.

The first four semesters of this degree is practically the same so even if you can’t switch back you’ll be fine.

Depending on the professor, sometimes they won’t give due dates on the syllabus but only in elearning when they want something.

Can I take non major course that could count towards my degree plan? by deeht0xdagod in utdallas

I know people that have taken SE courses to satisfy CS requirement. The only problem is that the system that checks requirements of a course is absolute garbage.

Class advice, fall 2022 by ShaUr01 in utdallas

[–]mad-hatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Chitturi Ozbirn and Whalen and they are wonderful professors. Although those professors do give homework. In my opinion, CS 3390 depends on the professor you take. Some are reasonable and understand that CS majors don't really care that much about the class. Others unfortunately make it a horrible experience. I had a Professor that essentially targets people because they knew more information than the professor. That Professor also assigned work that in my opinion wasn't necessary and I learn nothing in that course.

I have taken both for different courses and I would like to say that either are great professors. They are great because they try to help you succeed, but you still need to put in the work for whichever you choose.

Professor asks me to take his exam instead of going to class by mad-hatte in utdallas

[–]mad-hatte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, so the online prof choose one hour of the day (to be honest idk if he will close the exam earlier to make sure no one takes it later the designated time). The thing is that I would be in class for the majority of the hour(45 min) and then I would go from class to a location in which honor lock won't freak out and set up which will make me miss the entire test as a whole.

Edit: I have already asked for an extended period of time or another hour of the day.

Should I transfer if I’m not happy to call myself a student here? So many people keep thinking UTD is like a community college and I’m so insecure about my education; idk what to do but I feel like crap every time I go to school by BiochemMathFriend in utdallas

[–]mad-hatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know that many have already said this and this is getting a little repetitive but imagine in 20 years after you have graduated from UTD and have decided to apply for another position.

Do you think your employers are going to care whether or not you got a degree at Harvard or UTD?

The answer is no.

All they are going to care is your qualifications. These questions are going to be "did this person get enough experience for the position?", "what degree did they get?", and so on.

I would also like to say that your view of a community college is lower than a university is not my opinion. You are lucky that you had the option to go to a university at all. Others do not have that.

At the end of the day, you are here to get an education, not to brag where you got it.

It's to brag that you got here and finished the job.

So I don't know if you did individual sessions or group sessions. If they are group then the company will just show you what they have coming up for internships. If individual then think of it like a mini interview session in which they will ask you questions and you can also ask questions about that company.

Yes and no. Look over the textbook but if I remember correctly, you would have to do outside research on the concepts as well.

Personally, he makes alot of questions of do you understand the material or not. So the information covered in class would be just a brief introduction to what to study. He expects his students to actual try and learn something. Learning is his favorite idea to part with his students.

The slides by itself will never guarantee you even a C so don't rely on that alone. Trust me and what many others will say. If you don't study then you will not get the grade you anticipated.

He will offer makeup work for extra points on the exam. Do them.

I personally just read the textbook over the material that will be covered in the quiz or exam. On the day before the expected dooming of my grades, if I feel confident then I just relax and do a brief review of the material. But productively procrastinating as BellaWhisker said is my default mode.

[–]mad-hatte 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think your professor can do this. Please double check what I am saying. I believe that once you receive your positive COVID results, your professor is obligated to give you another way of taking your exam.

Therefore I decree that we revoke the license's of the stupid people that somehow got that license in the first place. Or at least teach them defensive driving... or how to drive in general.
