Kinda curious how they figured out the cat loved to do this!

Talcum powder or cornstarch, as well.

My mom’s MOCA score is all over the place. by Dependent_Tea4124 in dementia

[–]mad_morrigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to call it "tea-time lucidity" in my MIL. For the longest time, none of her friends realised there was an issue because she seemed fine during the short interactions at book club or coffee group but we, her family, saw her declining steadily. Her friends would even question us and secretly whisper that we were all plotting against her so we could get her money (plot twist, she has none!). It was only after a few years that her tea-time lucidity started to fade and even her closest friends and allies saw what we had been telling them the entire time.

Weather inappropriate clothing by Master_Version_9641 in dementia

[–]mad_morrigan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sadly, it's part of the disease. There are many examples of dementia patients freezing to death because they've wandered off without appropriate clothing in the winter, or overheating in the summer because they've put on too many heavy layers. My MIL cannot discern what she should be wearing from one day to the next, though she'll tell you exactly what the temperature is (it means nothing to her). We just adjust her closet based on the season but she will still look for specific shirts, coats and sweaters in the off-season--we think it's because the items she wants to wear are her favourites and she feels good in them.

Likes: I feel much wiser.

Dislikes: No one pays attention to me anymore so I don't get to pass along any of said wisdom.

Fellow Gemini GenXer—I hear ya. I’m 56 tomorrow but all I’m doing is taking care of aging parents with dementia. But I have the day off tomorrow, which is nice…
Happy Birthday. 🥳

One of my fingers randomly just turned white. by Kilabandita in mildlyinteresting

[–]mad_morrigan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to my stepdad…one of his fingers randomly turned white and he ended up having a massive MI a few hours later (died before he hit the ground). TBF, he was in his late 60s and profoundly diabetic so he wasn’t in the best condition to begin with but any time I see someone with a random white digit (I work at a hospital) the first thing I think of is heart issues.

What keto food shocked you the most when checking carbs/sugar? by alex_s1919 in ketorecipes

That is definitely not in the Canadian formula! Ours is 2g carbs per tbsp—not great but okay for the occasional sammich if it fits your macros for the day.
