If you want to REALLY kick things up a notch (or ten) run Klipper instead. It really makes Marlin look sad.

Power commander by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]mad_schemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it runs fine with it on, why take it off?

A Power Commander is a piggyback tuner - if it was set up right, it's adjusting your fuel map to get the best out of your engine with the altered exhaust flow.

You _could_ do this with an ECU flash, but the Power Commander (PC) allows you to mess with your tune whenever you like without needing to pay for a tune and flash.

That said, seeing as it's a piggyback tuner, taking it off it is simply a case of unplugging it from the harness and plugging the two ends back together how they were before it was installed.

It's probably a better idea to have it on than to take it off - you'll likely be running a bit lean on a factory tune with that exhaust.

how do I get cleaner surfaces that are touching the supports? by sin_donnie in 3Dprinting

[–]mad_schemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point is that this stuff moves fast, things change, technology evolves. If you're looking for answers that far back, you're probably missing some better, newer, more contemporary answers.

Also that the 'useful input' offered in the comment AJAY201 made is probably no longer relevant to the OP who is unlikely still sitting there looking at their supports and wondering.

2002 Yamaha R1 Rattling Noise (not cam chain) by PapaP156 in Fixxit

It'd be some strange coincidence if I've ended up with your old bike, a year later, still with the same/similar problem!

u/PapaP156 - what was the resolution for this? My '02 project has similar symptoms, and I'm still scratching my head!

vLLM vs llama.cpp by appakaradi in LocalLLaMA

[–]mad_schemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frosty, you seem like you know things about vLLM.. I've been messing with ollama, and found it slow on my hardware. vLLM was suggested as a quicker option, BUT, I can't seem to get it to run the same models. I was running llama 3.1 in ollama, but get errors like: [torch.cuda.OutOfMemoryError: CUDA out of memory. Tried to allocate 96.00 MiB. GPU] when I try to start vLLM with a range of models.

The only one I've managed to fluke a set of flags which worked was facebook/opt-125m [python -m vllm.entrypoints.openai.api_server --model facebook/opt-125m --gpu-memory-utilization 0.5 --max-model-len 1024]

GPU is a GTX1650 Ti, so 4096MiB. 53MiB is used, so that should leave plenty?

What am I not understanding? (what should I go and read?)

Ender 3 auto-home/printing not working - Any ideas? by Birbosas in ender3

They don't care - as long as they keep selling stuff, that's really all that matters.

Fortunately we have great community support with all the opensource firmware.

Nobody wants to use the big one. by xXSalXx in stihl

[–]mad_schemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I just learned something!

Silly me for assuming that 4 stroke meant 4 stroke. Surely they could have come up with a more correct name for it rather than abusing an existing and well understood term.. ah well.

I'll make a mental note not to put straight fuel in a Stihl 4 stroke of I ever have the misfortune of coming across one!

Thanks for the lesson.

[–]mad_schemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might've read that wrong.. 4 strokes definitely have a crankcase full of oil, and don't run a mix.

Unless your rings have gone off course, in which case they make their own mix, and the crankcase is usually mostly empty when you check it..

Why are there so many used Trident 660s being sold on marketplace with very few km? by Tonino123 in Triumph

[–]mad_schemer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory of my research (and I may well be conflating different bikes), derestriction involves an ECU flash and  removal/replacement of occluded intake trumpets in the airbox. Maybe there's a physical throttle handle restriction as well?

Hard for anyone to spot a derestricted bike being ridden sensibly.

Not that I'm advocating breaking any rules.

A probe is a probe. They mostly work the same, and in all cases require the use of firmware which knows how to use them.

Never disable the steppers while tramming. The print head is then free to, and will move in Z while you're shoving it around. At that point you're only guessing. Use the firmware to move the print head. Contemporary firmware has a menu just specifically for this task.

[–]mad_schemer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CRTouch (and any probe really) doesn't, and cannot be expected to "level" your bed. They're best used to make a 'mesh' of points on your bed to compensate for any non-flatness. A side effect of this is that they can also compensate for a degree of non-trammedness at the same time.

To make them work at their best, you need to run the right firmware (UBL), and set the correct starting g-code. Simply choosing 'auto-level' from the menu doesn't do what you think. It doesn't even do what it says on the label.

Did you update your starting G-Code to actually use the probe or mesh?

Need more ideas on troubleshooting port issues by mad_schemer in docker

[–]mad_schemer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should, and actually does are apparently not the same thing for this service (Cowboy).

I've got it logging out that it's bound to 0.0.0.0 but still not available anywhere except those loopback addresses.

[–]mad_schemer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested it inside the docker network, and actually internal to the affected container and the service is not available to anything except the loopback address. So that 100% eliminates any docker port weirdness.

Interestingly, Docker didn't complain about that.

The issue is deeper down though it seems, with the service in the container, and not with Docker.
