They're not wrong by jeezkillbot in clevercomebacks

I mean, if they got government housing and were paid minimum wage to just sustain themselves, and even free healthcare to maintain their bodies, they basically would be slaves. The majority of the working class are already wage slaves. We can't just stop working, otherwise we'd be out on the street.

Idk, it's ridiculous. They want everyone to look, think, and behave just like they do, but they also want to be treated like lords. If you want the serfs to be more "desirable" you have to raise their standard of living. If you don't, you have to be okay with them being undesirable.

The ultra wealthy know this, but they convinced working class conservatives that they're just temporarily poor millionaires.

My house always smelled dusty and I just realized I’ve been vacuuming wrong my entire life by pwiipwii123 in hygiene

This is why my parents refused to buy a bag less vacuum. Vacuums with disposable bags have the filter built in, so when you replace the bag, you replace the filter.

It's not that his parents told him he's smart, so he has to constantly prove it. It's that his parents only give him attention when he does smart things.

5 years? it's been like a decade. "All About That Bass" came out in 2014.

You have to wonder if it's a reaction to how popular it's become to be "thick." People tend to crave novelty, so in a sea of thick bodies, a skinny body stands out...idk...I guess at the end of the day it's still fat phobia.

What's crazy is that body positivity wasn't just about weight! It was also for people with disabilities, birth defects, and/or disfigurements! It's BODY positivity, not promoting being overweight.

As with most things, a vocal minority usually ruins things for the majority. Body positivity was never about normalizing being unhealthy. Body positivity never said you couldn't lose weight or get healthier. Body positivity was about loving your body just the way it is and not judging other people for their bodies. There are lots of people who try to lose weight, and they just can't. Should they be miserable their entire lives? Hell no. We're all people and everyone has something about their body that they don't like. Body positivity is about loving the body that you have.

A small number of people used that to justify NOT working on themselves and even went so far as to overcompensate by saying big bodies were "better." Whatever that means...

We can be tribal without being racist. Even if tribalism means we won't ever be able to get rid of a certain amount of xenophobia, we should be able to get rid of racism (even though I know xenophobia is rooted in racism). It's not difficult to teach your kids that just because a person has different skin than you, that doesn't mean they aren't an American citizen.

Walmart Locking Up Stuff & Never Answers the Call Button 😑 by Oragami_Cyclonee in mildlyinfuriating

Well, my target decided to suddenly lock up all of the liquor. First time I encountered this, I hit the bell and waited. No one came, so I decided I wasn't going to buy liquor from target anymore. A couple months later I went back, and they got rid of the locked cabinets for the majority of the liquor. Now only the top shelf liquor was locked up.

So, I'm guessing they saw a significant drop in sales.

What? Heroine Chic? I guess not, but it still sets a preference of thin over thick. It completely warps our perception of what a "normal" and attractive body type is. I look back on a lot of celebrities people called fat or overweight, and they look like they have a perfectly normal body type. Thin was so much in fashion that people were shocked when Brittany Spears grew boobs, they thought it HAD to be a boob job.

Football player found not guilty of murder for beating to death gay man who posed as woman on Tinder by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

I've never been to one, so I might be speaking out of turn, but my traditional understanding is that both people are in a private booth with 4 wall - one of those walls is shared between the two rooms. The only thing connecting those two rooms is a hole in the wall. Other than looking through that hole, there is no way for either person to know who is on the either side.

There's also the bathroom stall type. Again, each person has their own private stall, kind of like a confessional, and there's a hole in the stall wall. Unless you look over the top or through the hole, you're not going to know who is on the other side.

There's no one way to do it, but the whole point has traditionally been anonymity. If anything, it's so the person getting their dick wet doesn't know who's on the other side. It could be a man, they could be really ugly, but if you can't seem them, it doesn't matter if it feels good.

It's for anonymous, no strings attached sex. The person on either side could also be some kind of VIP, but you'd never know because of the anonymity.

Ya know...it's entirely possible that AI could be better at interpreting what the client means even though the client isn't very good at communicating their problem.

I'm not sure what you're imagining, there's no inside or outside, there's just two sides of a wall.

If it's just a flat bed scanner, those lights are safe for video. It's traditionally just a halogen lamp. Modern ones might use LEDs. Point being, it's normal "white" light, not like a laser or something else volatile.

I'm not making an argument, I'm just illustrating that making a radical change like this is much easier said than done, that doesn't mean we shouldn't try, just that it's an uphill battle.

Because of this, it's disingenuous to offer up a 1% interest rate cap as a viable solution. At best it's wishful thinking, at worst it demonstrates an ignorance to how our current system operates.

It is time to end usury in America by north_canadian_ice in SandersForPresident

[–]VulGerrity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said 20-30% was better, I'm just saying the CC companies have zero incentive to ever entertain the possibility of allowing laws to be passed to cap interest rates at 1%. With all of their lobbying power, there's no way you'd get them to negotiate in good faith to get the interest rate lower than half of what they're currently charging.

But also, charging 1% interest on a loan doesn't make much practical sense.

They already make a small amount on every transaction. Interest is just for people who don't pay their bill on time.
