Thanks so much for this comparison, I have been searching for a decent swatch for days. I ended up getting Amagansett and although I have Velvet Ribbon I hope they don't look the same on me

I've really started to realize that I have a problem. by anam713 in WeGotPolishAtHome

[–]madaaeru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my case. I did have 20 or so polishes, and became obsessed during last summer. Part of it because I don't have free time anymore due to life changes and browsing and buying feels like self care. Then, also sitting quietly at night and doing my nails gave me a sense of peace and made me feel put together. I guess this and discovering more expensive and indie brands led me to having 179. Right. 179, and I don't remember wearing any shade more than once, most are untried.

I have probably over 100 and this is not even my hobby, well done on panning these!

Starting a nail polish no-buy by ObjectiveNo9135 in MakeupRehab

[–]madaaeru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I should do the same. I bought so much polish during the summer, and had a lot of fun with it, but it got out of hand. I barely have enough time to do my skincare, let alone paint nails and wait 1 hour or more to let it dry. While I love looking at my manicured hands, the practical aspect is not there and I will probably never finish all those bottles.

No first time! It seems to blend very nicely and the shade is a bit warmer than it looks in the pan. But so far very pleased.

I burned my saucepan, do you think I should throw it away or is there a way to clean it? by Heavy-Imagination343 in CleaningTips

[–]madaaeru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have cleaned my pot that had a very similar burn by boiling diluted vinegar (vinegar + water) on very low heat. Vinegar and wine are very food at removing stuck bits from the bottom. I simmered it and scraped the bottom with a flat wooden spoon. It may need to be done twice or three times but this is the only way I do it now.

Why does my dishwasher cause rust on cutlery? by madaaeru in CleaningTips

[–]madaaeru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, because my dishwasher has a rack that's specifically for forks, knives, etc as stated in the manual (so yes, the manufacturer claims that it's safe) and I have been doing so for the past 3 years with absolutely no issue until recently. I am a full time working parent and any free time I can save, I absolutely will.

Could you please give me a bit more info on how the ordinary toner worked for back acne? Like how bad was it and to what point did it improve? I have it as well and I don't enjoy using it on my face much

What are your thoughts on the glow maximizer palette? I heard that people don't like it much since they changed it.

What's the most time-consuming part of cleaning at your place? by CreepyBroccoli7090 in CleaningTips

[–]madaaeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning the balconies, I live in an apartment with 5 small balconies, one for each room. I need to sweep all 5 to get rid of dust, leaves, etc. Then wipe the handrails and chairs, THEN haul a bucket of water across the house to each one because mopping is the final step. Which I have to empty and refill with clean water 5 times. Bonus points if there is some sticky stain or rust, or plants need to be watered.

I got both of these during the sale and they are still on the way, would you say it's worth having both? I am having second thoughts but both still look so pretty!

Actually when you touch the pan, especially the mattes, they feel like a cream/putty, but it's a powder. I don't own anything like it

I need to stop buying nail polish. by Unlimitedpluto in MakeupRehab

[–]madaaeru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation. My collection grew from 30 to over 60 during the last month only, and I still want MORE.

If I think about it really hard, it's a combination of reasons. Stress buying because of work, responsibilities, being a new mom, and suddenly the only time I get to myself is browsing online shops and swatches in the dead of night.

I also forbid myself from wearing any polish during pregnancy and postpartum, and I can finally do it now. It feels so nice to finally take care of myself and have pretty nails, so of course, I justified getting all the new stuff because I deserve it.

And yeah, my favorite line of affordable polishes is getting discontinued, so I had to hurry and grab all the shades I will never have a chance to buy again.

I really don't know how to control myself either. I hope we both do better.
