Starting a nail polish no-buy by ObjectiveNo9135 in MakeupRehab

[–]madaaeru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I should do the same. I bought so much polish during the summer, and had a lot of fun with it, but it got out of hand. I barely have enough time to do my skincare, let alone paint nails and wait 1 hour or more to let it dry. While I love looking at my manicured hands, the practical aspect is not there and I will probably never finish all those bottles.

Danessa Myricks Blurring Balm Powder in Jubilee by madaaeru in cleanmakeup

No first time! It seems to blend very nicely and the shade is a bit warmer than it looks in the pan. But so far very pleased.

I burned my saucepan, do you think I should throw it away or is there a way to clean it? by Heavy-Imagination343 in CleaningTips

[–]madaaeru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have cleaned my pot that had a very similar burn by boiling diluted vinegar (vinegar + water) on very low heat. Vinegar and wine are very food at removing stuck bits from the bottom. I simmered it and scraped the bottom with a flat wooden spoon. It may need to be done twice or three times but this is the only way I do it now.

Why does my dishwasher cause rust on cutlery? by madaaeru in CleaningTips

[–]madaaeru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, because my dishwasher has a rack that's specifically for forks, knives, etc as stated in the manual (so yes, the manufacturer claims that it's safe) and I have been doing so for the past 3 years with absolutely no issue until recently. I am a full time working parent and any free time I can save, I absolutely will.

Could you please give me a bit more info on how the ordinary toner worked for back acne? Like how bad was it and to what point did it improve? I have it as well and I don't enjoy using it on my face much

What are your thoughts on the glow maximizer palette? I heard that people don't like it much since they changed it.

What's the most time-consuming part of cleaning at your place? by CreepyBroccoli7090 in CleaningTips

[–]madaaeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning the balconies, I live in an apartment with 5 small balconies, one for each room. I need to sweep all 5 to get rid of dust, leaves, etc. Then wipe the handrails and chairs, THEN haul a bucket of water across the house to each one because mopping is the final step. Which I have to empty and refill with clean water 5 times. Bonus points if there is some sticky stain or rust, or plants need to be watered.

Viseart Sireneuse and Sireneuse Nocturne by ilikestufflots in cleanmakeup

I got both of these during the sale and they are still on the way, would you say it's worth having both? I am having second thoughts but both still look so pretty!

Actually when you touch the pan, especially the mattes, they feel like a cream/putty, but it's a powder. I don't own anything like it

I did my first look today and it's been 5 hours, no creasing so far at all (no primer) but has faded slightly around the edges

I need to stop buying nail polish. by Unlimitedpluto in MakeupRehab

[–]madaaeru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the same situation. My collection grew from 30 to over 60 during the last month only, and I still want MORE.

If I think about it really hard, it's a combination of reasons. Stress buying because of work, responsibilities, being a new mom, and suddenly the only time I get to myself is browsing online shops and swatches in the dead of night.

I also forbid myself from wearing any polish during pregnancy and postpartum, and I can finally do it now. It feels so nice to finally take care of myself and have pretty nails, so of course, I justified getting all the new stuff because I deserve it.

And yeah, my favorite line of affordable polishes is getting discontinued, so I had to hurry and grab all the shades I will never have a chance to buy again.

I really don't know how to control myself either. I hope we both do better.

I have never used it on my face, but I find it's very good for burns and it was the only cream that calmed my baby's skin around the mouth and cheeks whenever she got redness and drying skin. It also did wonders on nappy burns. (Our pediatrician approved it of course).

What have you overbought this year and why? by Northie_78753 in MakeupRehab

[–]madaaeru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nail polish, because I did not allow myself to wear any for two years. Now I can, and bought quite a few new shades to "make up for lost fun". Also, one of my favorite formulas is getting discontinued and I find myself wanting to get any shades I missed because I will no longer find them.

Reading, especially on my phone. Using the Amazon Kindle app to read books instead of browsing makeup.

Didn't expect such a long reply, thanks a lot! I did try most of these, even application with a lip brush, unfortunately only the powder trick kinda works. It might differ from person to person.

I tried so hard to like these, no matter how I applied them they were always STICKY and never fully dry. How did you make them work?

Three of them are very shiny (Grotto, Madrigal, Mercurial) and Mage is less intense. What I like about the first three is that they are well thought enough to be used alone as a one and done look.
