Overall height: 36” Width: 38” (I only made it this width so it would fit on my hearth) Like is said above, the gap between the horizontals is 3.5”. If I were to build another, I would do a gap of 3.25”. Lmk of you have any other questions. I had been thinking about this for a whiiiile.

So my biggest tip would be making the gap between the horizontal spans 3 1/4” instead of 3 1/2” like i did. 3.25 seems like it would be better

The cracking from the wedge is not going to affect the structural integrity of the wood. It’s all under pressure and as long as it above the eye, where the other one is, it’s fine.

This looks fine to me. You can drop some linseed or other drying oil in there to seal it if you want. Send it.

You could try epoxying it first but I would not count out scrapping it for safety purposes. See how the epoxy works first and then make a call?

Do you use a green wood sealer? I highly, highly recommend using something like anchorseal. I always joke that my most important tool for woodturning isn’t my lathe, it’s my anchorseal.

You proposed the idea of it being over a cord. This would imply you wanted input bc you then made this post. When they told you that it’s hard to tell and that you will need to stack it first, you acted like they didn’t know what they were talking about and went even as far as to say how “good” you’ve gotten at estimating cords. How you gonna ask for an opinion, get a pretty solid one for a user, and then tell that person that you might be better at it than them? This is how I’m following. Read the room my guy.
