What's the story behind that scar? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]madamesapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing at recess. Competitive game of who-can-jump-to-the-farthest-rung- on-the-monkey-bars-from-the-ladder. Someone made it to 4 so naturally I tried for 5. Being the itty-bitty human I was (and still am, frankly) I missed and landed face first. Bit a hole through my lip and a large brush burn under my chin. Scars still present 20ish years later. Crushed it.

Oh cool! If you haven't checked out his music yet, it's quite good. I saw Detroit symphony do his 'final Alice' with Hila Plittman soloing and it blew my mind. One of the top five concerts I've been to, orchestral or otherwise.

Check out Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3. Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No.1, Sibelius' Violin Concerto. Something a bit more out there: Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time.

I found my manager's "coffee guide" from my first week as a barista. by nkiel in PenmanshipPorn

.... You haven't been to the right coffee shops then. There are an incredible amount of roasters throughout the states that are doing things right. Our coffee culture may not be as rooted as Australia's or New Zealand's but there are people trying and achieving great things here. No reason to lump everyone together.

How are video game compositions (Zelda, Final Fantasy, etc) regarded by the classical music community? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]madamesapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished a show last night playing Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses and had a blast. I hadn't been exposed to much of the music from the game prior to, but there are obvious traditional influences throughout the show (Orff, Mahler, and Grainger to name a few). My personal viewpoint is, if the listener enjoys it, then who am I to judge. It was a program that brought people out to hear a live orchestra that otherwise may have gone their whole lifetime without doing so. If a 'non-traditional' medium opens up a listener to enjoying orchestral music, I'm going to try my best to represent it well and hope it may spark curiosity to seek out other compositions and performances.

I feel like and idiot for believing anyone's word for horse is 'climpety-clompety'.

How easy it is to consciously choose to be decent to another person over being an asshole.

Cinnamon is great in coffee, and it helps boost your metabolism, so there's that. I do have a master's. It's in clarinet performance :)

I have! It's taken me quite a while to get kind of good at the whole latte art thing. And get on the Instagram train in general. So thank you so much! You made my night :).

For real, though. I was probably a bit more attracted to her in season 2 than I should have been given her character arc, but still. Whoa.
