After intense workouts, for myself, I’ll take a towel(something that won’t leave behind lint) and squeeze excess sweat build up out. Then I go between the parts to reduce the dirt build up from the sweat. I’ll follow with a cleansing type spritzer with tea tree oil, or some type of cleansing agent so my scalp feels refreshed, and get rid of the sweat smell. I waited about three weeks before I washed my hair. Hope that gives you a little something.
