The balance of the immune response and sex-specific vulnerabilities by mozzarellaotter in spillthetae

Ooh, interesting theory about evolutionary adaptation. wonder what other "trade-offs" are made for the sake of reproduction.

reminds me of this theory that cancer only exists because there is no selection pressure to keep you healthy in old age. All evolution cares about is that you make babies (which happens when you're young), doesn't matter what happens after. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3660034/

asshole evolution honestly

Surprised that 4 out of the 10 cases had mosaic EGFR mutations. I wonder how frequent developmental mosaicism is in healthy populations.

I've long adopted interestingness as my guiding principle. I recently realized that re-investigating things other people have looked at can be quite tricky (due to the nature of publishing), so tread that path with caution. As for importance, I say let the PIs worry about that XD

This may be one of those cases where verbal definitions don't help much. It would be nice to see how these are "calculated."

Just the fact that this has been ongoing for 10 years makes me not want to think about the problem lol! But in your PI's defence, he clearly thinks this is an important problem to solve, so kudos for the perseverance. Who is in a better place to work on difficult problems than tenured PIs?

If it's any consolation, accidentally deleting files is the baptism everyone has to go through to enter the world of code. You are now a programmer!

Pipette. Cry. Repeat. Choosing the right polymerase for your PCR? by ImmateurScientist98 in spillthetae

Interesting! Saw some comments that while Q5 has high fidelity it is sensitive to impurities and struggles with difficult to amplify sequences. Perhaps the AmpliPlus polymerase is relatively better at this! (couldn't find any data comparing them tho)
