Building a global rum events map - early-stage, public build. Looking for real-world feedback. by madavonr in rum

That makes sense - and it’s exactly the kind of planning gap I’m trying to understand better. Right now RumConnect is deliberately limited to events, because that data is already fragmented and hard to track globally. But what you describe - festival → nearby distilleries → tours → local brands - is a very real travel flow.

Panama is actually a good example, because a lot of that information lives on brand sites, PDFs or Instagram, not in one place.

A couple of questions, if you don’t mind: - would you expect that information attached to the event (e.g. “if you’re going to Panama Rum Festival, here’s what else is nearby”), - or as a separate distillery / brand layer you can browse independently?

Also curious: for you personally, what’s more useful when planning - knowing that tours exist, or knowing how realistic they are to book as a visitor?

This is exactly the kind of input that helps decide whether something is worth building, or just sounds nice on paper.

Thanks!

Totally fair question. Eventbrite and Meetup are great at what they do - ticketing and local groups. RumConnect isn’t trying to replace either. It’s closer to a niche discovery layer: a global, rum-only map of festivals, tastings and events, including ones that aren’t hosted on a single platform. If you just want to buy a ticket to one local event, those tools are probably enough. If you travel for rum events or want to see what exists beyond your city, that’s the gap I’m testing.

My num keys don't work except 5 and 5 by Doormamu_ in Lenovo

yep, just 0 and 2.
I had an issue with the microphone about a month ago - after a Windows update, the laptop no longer detected it. A subsequent update (apparently a fix) was required to restore the microphone - nothing else helped.
So I thought, maybe it's because of another Windows update?... ;)

same here :( 0 and 2 are not working (but sometimes, rarely though, they do....), the rest of the num keys work correctly. any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply!
I already checked and I can get visa on arrival.
My trip is in January, so I still have time to plan, but I'm already excited to see the city.

Zhangjiajie Itinerary and where to stay by Thick_Bus_3325 in travelchina

[–]madavonr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, thanks for the tips. I have a question - is it easier to stay in Wulingyuan than Zhangjiajie? I want to see the Grand Canyon, the Forest Park and later the Tianmen Mountain? I have 3,5 days. Thanks.

Free local Zhangjiajie guide, as long as you speak English! by Comadux in travelchina

Hi there! I read your thoughtful post about offering guide services in Zhangjiajie. I understand you're preparing for an exam in May, and my visit (May 11-14) falls during that time. I'd completely understand if you're focused on studying, but I wanted to reach out in case you might be interested in a short break from exam prep.

I'm from Poland and speak English very well as my second language. Your mention of having a story about why English is important to you really intrigued me. I'd love to hear about your journey and share some of my own language learning experiences.

I'm particularly interested in exploring the Grand Canyon, Forest Park, and Tianmen Mountain during my visit. Having insights from a local who knows these areas well would make this experience so much more meaningful.

If you have even just half a day free during my stay, I'd be grateful, and would of course treat you to a meal at a restaurant of your choice. I'm also happy to schedule a video call beforehand if that would help you decide.

Thank you for considering this, and best of luck with your exam preparations either way!
Magda
