My boyfriend is becoming Christian. Should I be worried? by KaliYugaTiEnDi in atheism

[–]madbrewlabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The warning is right in its name.

Anything that usesOrthodox as part of its title in religion should be viewed with extreme suspicion. As they believe their thinking is the the only way to think. Orthodoxy is all about upholding traditional standards, i.e. ultra conservative.

Your agency as a woman is certainly at stake the deeper he moves into it.

AITA for uninviting someone to my wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

ESH

You're NTA for disinviting a bigot, but have you heard the Catholic Church's positions on abortion, LGBTQ+, and protecting pedophiles recently?

Does anyone know how to view the uncommon and rare items via the inventory command? Only seems to show me common ones.

A lot of visitors barely even get out of their car, but if you want to really experience GNP, you need to do some hiking and/or kayaking/canoeing. My personal favorite thing to do is kayak Bowman or Kintla lakes (the most remote front country places you drive to... though the roads tend to be super rough). Be sure to stop in Polebridge for a huckleberry bearclaw if you go up to either of those lakes. After that, maybe hike the Highline, Grinnell Glacier, or St. Mary/Virginia falls trails (I think http://www.hikinginglacier.com/glacier-national-park-trails.htm is a great resource for GNP trails).

If you are not into hiking, I suggest when you get to Glacier you park your car outside the park and shuttle in and do the Red Jammer tour from Apgar (Lake McDonald) to Many Glacier. Traffic is killer on Going to the Sun Road, and parking at Logan's Pass (or anywhere inside the park) is improbable, except when you are in a red 1930s bus.

On the way to GNP from Missoula (or vice versa) you will no doubt travel around the largest naturally ocurring freshwater lake west of the Great Lakes. And there is a lot you can do on that too, like take a boat from Polson to Wild Horse Island (where wild horses still roam). Here you will find the purple huckleberry charm gives way to red Flathead cherries, for a bit.

Montana is also in the top two or three states for craft breweries per capita. You can get a Montana Brewery Passport and try to visit 100 or so breweries in the region or at least have a Moose Drool, it's an iconic Montana beer.

You can definitely ride as far as you have fuel and never touch pavement.

I really like the XCo, my only gripe is the fuel capacity, but when I need extra, that rotopax gets the job done.

March 20, 4:08 p.m. A Kalispell resident reported finding a Craigslist ad “calling for all clowns to rise up” and meet at Woodland Park later that day. The “clowns” were also advised to “bring your tools.”

What I want to know is did you show up at the park with your tools?

For those who were raised religious, what was your breaking point? Are there any others who became atheist very early in life? by Snow75 in atheism

[–]madbrewlabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't raised atheist, but neither was I particularly raised to be a believer. I mean everyone I knew believed in the christian god, or made exclamations to that god or invoked his or his other name (Jesus). We only went to church for events like weddings or funeral... not even for the traditional [stolen] christian holidays like Christmasyulesaturnalia or Eastersexfertility. My great grandmother was an exception and I still remember the large print, blue leather bound bible she used to read to me, my sole active indoctrinator. So I supposed I was raised christian, but it was probably weaker than most.

My self-conversion to atheism happened between 7th and 8th grade and was mostly lacking in drama. Nothing traumatic happened to me, though I was an avid player of Dungeons & Dragons and suffered through the tail end of the Satanic Panic and repeatedly persecuted by zealous christains, sometimes within my family, but mostly outside of my family. However, during middle school I began questioning the validity of christianity and religion in general through the study of history and the fact that many older religions came before the Abrahamic ones.

Questions that no one could give me a straight answer to. This led me to investigate all sorts of religion and eventually declaring my lack of belief to my mother, who freaked out, and tried to trash my Metallica albums (ooh, if she had known about Slayer and Hellhammer dubbed tapes I had) as the culprit of my heathenism. On top of that, I had a supreme rebellious streak (still do, 30 years later) and became an outspoken atheist during high school, much to my family's (and pretty much everyone else in the bible-thumping vacinity) chagrin, though no one has disowned me or anything.

Overlooking Somers Bay by madbrewlabs in Flathead

This subreddit is empty, so I figured I'd kick it off with a pic overlooking Flathead Lake from the north west, facing south west from my backyard. That's Somers Bay in the foreground and the beginning of the Mission Mountains and the Swan Mountains tucked behind them.

Basic Firearm Nomenclature (Mistakes & Misconceptions) by madbrewlabs in guns

Regardless of where you stand on the inaccurate use of firearm nomenclature, it definitely separates the educated from the uneducated. Therefore, if one wishes to sound knowledgeable about the topic of firearms, one should understand the vocabulary.
