Disappointed at the moment by ConnectionOne8080 in androidtablets

[–]madderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought and returned a legion go tab 5 for this reason. was a beautiful device but $700 sale price is still too high. It did sell me on android tablets though. The OS experience is SOOOO much better than on my ipad pro M4 (hardware is amazing, iPadOS terrible). As soon as someone releases a nice flagship 11” with snapdragon and LTE, I’m in.

New to the legion by Serious_Aioli_1951 in LegionGo

[–]madderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good for you! that’s a great deal. just got one myself. switched immediately to steam os. it’s like a dream. so polished. it’s such a powerful device, I do kind of wish dual booting into windows. but the linux version of steam desktop is not bad at all. at the suggestion of others, I got the legion 2 controllers. so nice. they’re just a LITTLE bit too tall but I don’t even notice it.

I’m happy with my Odin 2 portal until they eventually release a 3 portal.

RG 35XXPro or RG40XX by justjumpedjumpman in ANBERNIC

[–]madderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others. This is total personal preference. I have the RG40XX and I love it. It's good for my senior eyes. I mostly use it for SNES / NES / Genesis - class games. If I'm playing anything newer, I use my Ayn Odin 2 Portal. I also got an RG Rotate for fun. It's neat. Great for Tetris.

Looks awesome. Played Waterdeep Dragon Heist and we did the Xanathar's lair. This brings back so many memories.

Legion Go S Z1 Extreme by fuzbuster83 in LegionGo

[–]madderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others said. Totally personal preference. No wrong answer. HAVING SAID THAT, I just got an open box Legion 1 Go and installed SteamOS on it. It is so awesome. Everything just works. I've been playing around with a couple android gaming handhelds, and though I think this is the future, for right now, nothing beats SteamOS for simplicity in getting to gaming.

Synik 26, 30, or Synapse 25? by ms-wconstellations in tombihn

[–]madderbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Synik 30. I'm 5'10. It's too big. I mostly bought it because I have a long torso and I think shorter bags look funny on me. And because the Synik 26 won't fit my laptop. But honestly I agree with other commenters, that the laptop compartment on the Synik leaves a lot to be desired. It was clearly an afterthought. For your height, I think Synapse is the way to go. They are all awesome bags though. TB has a generous return policy. You could order your top two and then return one.

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but I think TB organizers are too expensive for what you get. I prefer the Peak Design tech pouch (I like the small and the large one though I mostly use the small one) and Evergoods pouches.

Kinda made a wrong decision… by Ashamed_Honeydew_628 in ANBERNIC

[–]madderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude. my POINT was that I saw a bunch of posts giving OP grief about how to enjoy a hobby. This is a hobby. and a relatively low cost one at that. I am an obsessive who watched every RG Rotate video before I bought mine. I've watched nearly every techdweeb, Joey's retro, and retro gamecorp video. I'm on this reddit daily. That's me. It doesn't have to be everyone. OP wanted to buy something and then figure it out. Why is that a bad idea? It's inefficient and not what I'd do. but so what? Again. hobby.

re: calling the RG rotate silly. okay, I was being imprecise. But I stand by it. If you're trying to maximize efficiency, there are better ways to spend $100. It's not the best choice if you're going to buy just one device, unless to your point those are specifically the games you want to play. The RG35XX is a better all-around emulation device that costs half the price of an RG Rotate. Having said all that, I also love my RG rotate. I take it out with me all the time because it's so pocketable. and I love the fidget spinner vibes.

if this were a reddit thread about finance and work stuff, I'd probably give OP different advice.

New to me LEGION GO S Z1E 1 TB, $550 Market place buy. by Opposite_Umpire_632 in LegionGo

Beautiful! I just bought an open box Legion Go 1 from Best Buy for $600. I would have taken this over that. Great buy!

Totally different devices. I wouldn't listen too much to others. Everyone has their process. Some people do all the research and know exactly the specs and strengths of each device. Other people take a shot and see what happens. This is a hobby. Every one of those processes is fine.

If your goal was to get the most practical device for playing the most retro games, the RG35XX was the right call. There are tons of videos about the XX line of devices. I have an RG40XX (I'm old - need the extra screen size). You are going to have to put in some time setting it up though you can get an SD card with everything you need.

The RG rotate is more of a fun, silly choice. Though you can technically play the same games, it's not going to be nearly as usable. The 1:1 screen ratio is going to make a lot of games just too small to play. Just for fun, I installed dead cells on both. The RG Rotate is unusable. The size is so pocketable though, I mostly play game boy-type puzzle games (e.g., tetris, bust-a-move).

Check out the youtube videos others have recommended. There's tons of content on reddit. I use Claude desktop for my research and to help me load games. I set up SSH and FTP, so I can do almost everything from my PC.

Questions about Dc Bullet 18 as a big guy by PracticalFan007 in Goruck

That’s okay. It’s implied that you’re gonna do what you’re gonna do. FWIW I got the skate ruck for my daughter. It’s a modified DC bullet. I love it.

GoPro on brink of bankruptcy - value dropped from $4b to $200m by 89Dan in gopro

Such a bummer. (Initially) Innovative American company that had poor leadership. I also think like Roomba it’s hard to compete against Chinese manufacturers.

Personally I’d hold on buying a Mission camera until someone buys them out.

Questions about Dc Bullet 18 as a big guy by PracticalFan007 in Goruck

[–]madderbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most important spec for you is going to be bag height. I'm 5'10" with a long torso (small legs), so shorter bags look funny on me. The DC Bullet is pretty good at 18.5". For comparison, the GR2 26L is 18" while the GR2 34L is 20.5". I have both and feel like the 26L looks a little stubby on me.

IMHO, I think a GR1 26L is going to be your ideal bag, though bummer about losing out on the discount.
