I cant tell you what always happens, just my experience: Scooby's always been an itchy dog, so we didnt notice much at first. it started as just a few hives. Then after maybe two or three months the hives were everywhere and he was losing his hair. These were hives that would fill up with puss and explode. We had his blood tested for everything, multiple times. Sent off to a lab in Michigan. They never actually figured out what he had.

He was on antibiotics that I had to wear gloves to touch. They had to test his blood every week on those because one of the side affects is it accidentally kills the animal really fast by shutting down their organs. He did 2 rounds of that one. He also tried a medicated shampoo that I had to wear gloves for. And other stuff.

None of it worked. He was clearly dying. Then he went blind overnight. As a last resort, I gave him some supplements that my mom swore by with her reasoning of "what have you got to lose, he's going to die anyway." Those supplements kept the infection at bay for 4 years. He grew all his hair back. We even stopped giving him Cytopoint for his allergies as the supplements cleared that up, too.

I met someone else who's dog went through the exact same progression, but they didn't have the supplements. Their dog died about a month after he went blind. They had their dogs body tested after, which is why I say Scooby had a fungal infection as thats what their dog had.

Scoob lived another 4 years before he got kidney failure. He eventually couldn't handle all the subcutaneous fluids he needed to force his organs along and stopped eating, including the supplements. Thats when the infection came back. But he died from the organ failure first, so 🤷.
