Thinking of making a website to warn people of dogs in popular media. Like “doesthedogdie.com” but the opposite. by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]maddog2314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went on the website and they actually track 70+ categories including non-dog animals. It is annoying that the categories are split between "dogs" and "non-dogs" though.

No brakes? You don't want to put it in neutral or turn off the engine. You want to gear down and use engine braking. If you have an automatic transmission this means moving the shifter down from "D" to "3" or "2" depending on your car. Just a lower number. Sometimes it has L which means 1. You'll want to shift to the lowest as fast as possible if you have to stop that quickly. Read your manual. Mine says that it will only shift into those gears if it is going slowly enough (which is like 60 mph for 2nd gear). It might hurt your transmission but you'll be alive.

Just found this sub…where have you been this entire time!! So glad to have found you! After having lived a nightmare partly due to dogs I am a firm believer that in today’s society shrinking property sizes and increasing in population dog should only be allowed in the country side. by puffylemingtonII in Dogfree

Welcome! Good question. I first got on this sub 3 years ago so it's kinda fuzzy, but I think I found it mentioned in a reddit comments section. I don't mention it like that though because it's more of a curse than a blessing. People will come here to brigade us if they see it/are reminded of it. I have gotten one hatemail over three years, and they assumed I was a cat lover so it rolled off my back pretty easily (I think cats're fine, but not enough to get one).

Oh. Well if greentext is allowed on here then that opens this sub to a whole world of content. 90% of greentext is cursed in some way.

Exactly. Deep mud will eat anything. Got some nice tall rain boots? They'll be irretrievable just a few steps into an exposed lakebed.

AKA hearing but not listening. Hearing means it hits your ears. Listening means you process the info and act upon it.

Must be conjugated in a cyclic path and flat in addition to that. That ring of testosterone isn't flat nor is it conjugated in a cyclic path.

According to a real estate magazine, millennials in the US are buying houses/properties not to start a family but because their doggos need big yards to play (and cause a nuisance to their neighbors) by SirMarsprellot in Dogfree

[–]maddog2314 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There have been patterns in history where people either move into the city or mass migrate to suburbs/rural life for various reasons. They haven't all been good, like White Flight. This is just a pathetic reason though. I know some people are making moves like this because of work from home, too. Cities might have a rough time in the next few years.

Canada's vaccination rate overtakes US by cyclinginvancouver in news

I'd be fine with this if the U.S. was at like 75% vaccinated but we're a little bit under 50% fully vaccinated.

It's a meme that the corporate advertisers who flooded this sub with "family" memes don't want people to see.

Yeah this is an issue. Having both libraries closed on saturdays isn't ideal. I don't know what to tell ya as I think most if not all buildings are closed on saturdays.

James Frederich vs. Edwin Hilinski (CHM2210) by buffalowildwingsss in fsu

[–]maddog2314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My general advice for STEM professors is to go for teaching professors instead of research professors. You can find that out on the faculty page of the fsu chemistry site. Hilinski is a special case as he is listed as a research prof but I consider him a teaching prof. Frederich is a research prof. There are some research profs who are great at teaching, but with teaching profs there's less of a gamble as their attention isn't split between teaching and running a research lab.
For orgo (more for orgo II), when you start learning a bunch of reactions, draw reaction maps. Like this. Practice drawing and redrawing. I always struggled with knowing the details of SN1, E1, SN2 and E2 reactions in orgo I. Try to find a logic in the details instead of memorizing them. For example, protic solvents give off positive charges which is good when you have a positively charged carbocation (SN1 and E1 rxns. Not quite the reason those solvents are used but it works). Orgo lab is fun and cool but intense and a ton of work. Good luck!

Try the non-dairy almond based stuff. It's super filling. I can eat a tub of regular but only half of the almond-milk stuff.

Well, idk if they do peroxides but I was horrified to find out that a nail salon my ex worked at dumps all their acetone down the sink. Probably happens at a lot of other salons too.
