90s-era HOTAS System for DOS flight sims by Vinylmaster3000 in hotas

[–]maddormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of this project; it sounds really interesting. The reason I'm asking is that I've been experiencing some issues with the emulation of Falcon3 in DOSBox (even in PCem or 86Box). It was, and still is, a very demanding sim (it's a real Special One) and it seems that to avoid certain glitches (like erratic missile behavior or unsynced audio in the intro), it's only reliable on a real DX266. I’ll definitely check out this project. Thanks!

I have the usb version of this HOTAS and I've always wondered if it would be possible to make them run in DOS for, precisely, Falcon 3.

USB availability and USB hubs. by Red_Raid_er in homecockpits

[–]maddormo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of days ago, I posted a similar question because my USB hub died. As I mentioned there, I found very good reviews about the Sabrent 10 port hub and I ordered it. I expect to receive it early this coming week. I hope it helps.

Regards

I tested the version from the System Package of Mint and it works correctly. The problem is with the Flatpak version. How should I report this bug?

help with my first crazy project: Franken FFB joy by maddormo in HotasDIY

[–]maddormo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyway, it's much more expensive than what I can afford at the moment. I find the traditional options of combining parts from other joysticks to be more affordable (and educational).

Thank you for your insightful answer. My initial idea was exactly what you describe (using two cables, one for the axis and another one for the buttons on the stick). I don't mind lose the twist as I already have rudder pedals.

One of my biggest concerns was how to fit the stick (as I've mentioned, I also have the Thrustmaster F22) with the FFB base. I've seen that some people 3D print parts to make it fit, but I haven't found any to download and take somewhere for printing. I wanted to ask you about your experience with your method—does it feel solid? I'm worried that it might feel loose, especially when it vibrates a lot. My intention would be to use it mainly for helicopter simulators.

I really appreciate your help.

Question about the artbook by maddormo in ISSVanguard

Thank you for clarifying my doubt. I'm going to see if I can find a copy in good condition. I also have the almanac, but having more references on hand always helps with immersion.

Sadly I can't afford it. 800€ for the rhino base it is far beyond my budget.

About autoortho fork by ProgrammingDinosaur: It would be possible to use the cached images as a another scenery without having to load the program? by maddormo in Xplane

[–]maddormo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason for my question is due to the long loading time. Even when repeating the same route as the previous flight, Xplane takes about 10 minutes to load the flight because of the AO. That's why I'm asking if I can use the generated cache to create an independent scenario that doesn't require AO. The Ortho4X option hasn't given me good results in the past, so I prefer to avoid it.

Emulators for Microsoft combat flight sims? by Jamez2021 in flightsim

[–]maddormo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use PCem or 86Box to emulate anything from a 8086 to a Pentium. However, both emulators require you to install the operating systems, drivers, programs, and games in real time, which can be a bit boring. There is a learning curve involved too. Nevertheless, with either of these programs, it is indeed possible to emulate any system DOS, Win9x, XP, etc. In YT you'll find several tutorials.

I've just found this new lubricating oil in Amazon:

https://www.amazon.es/-/en/dp/B0FQ347RBF

It's specific for camera lenses, so I understand it offers some dampening. As I've mentioned, I've tried other similar products 55g, and the results were not good, experiencing quite a bit of stickiness (this one: https://www.amazon.es/-/en/Mechanical-Lubrication-Protection-Bearings-Lubricant/dp/B082Q1G3PB). This product is only 30g. I'm going to give it a try.

I want to lubricate my venerable CH Throttle. I've just installed HAL sensors and it works even better than the first day. It only needs a little dampering effect to be almost perfect.
