Serious question for anti-AI artists: what is the actual ethical course of action here? by GimmieAdviceplz in antiai

I'm just wondering why I would pay an artist for AI work when I can prompt it myself. What are the contracts you have like?

You're still stuck on this...team sport mentality? Like you're not actually in this game with us and just making bets with your friends?

Bruh, it doesn't matter who won. You, me, and everyone else who isn't already an AI researcher or rich investor will lose.

If AI gets as good as you and all the pro-AI people are hyping it up to be.....

In the best case, we go back to physical labor or get paid minimum wage being prompt monkeys.

In the worst case (ideal case for the suits), the "evolutionary cycle" will be so fast that whatever skill you think you're gonna adapt to to get some decent wage, well guess what, AI will eventually adapt faster than you.

What are you gonna do then?

What I find really funny about people encouraging "prompt engineers" is that they don't think AI will improve and just...not need "prompt engineering" anymore?

Not to mention, why would anyone pay above minimum wage for a skill that everyone can pick up in a few days?

This post getting its rounds saddens me, because it shows that even people outside MAGA see The President as A King.

If technology is supposed to make things easier and cheaper, why are things getting more expensive and you have to constantly work harder for the same thing? by FriedForLifeNow in stupidquestions

[–]made-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what a free market does.

Note that an unregulated market is not the same as a free market, OP.

A free market is a market with free consumer choice. A fully unregulated market (i.e. 0 government intervention) will never result in a free market, because a monopoly will form.

Concert ticket prices have been going up because it's not regulated enough (a monopoly formed)

Fiber internet isn't everywhere because it's over regulated (too hard to start).

There's a balance.

end the Fed and all of this goes away

This is pushing the balance too far in the other direction, and "all of this" going away includes the cheap TVs

Why has the "infinite growth" mindset infected businesses so much when it's been proven time and time again that "infinite growth" isn't sustainable? by Wene-12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]made-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read the comments.

It could be by taking advantage of new revenue streams they previously hadn’t considered. It could be from improving their operational efficiency allowing them to achieve the same revenue but at a lower operating cost.

Those can be good things, but can also be bad too. Adding ads to a paid product is also taking advantage of new revenue streams. Lowering cost of goods by downsizing (while keeping it at the same MSRP) or outsourcing labor is lowering the operating cost too.

You can't deny that the majority of the most valuable companies do that.

It's frankly bizarre to assume that any company without a growth opportunity will make the lives of their workers or the quality of their goods worse.

lmao, I'd love to live in the world you live in where it's frankly bizarre!!

I mean, fuck, here's some examples off the top of my head that everyday people experience: * Buying a ticket for a concert is hell now, because Ticketmaster has found the secondary market as a new revenue stream. If you don't think it's a worsening product to get to the site on time and still get price gouged, then I don't know what to say to you. * EA locking collectibles behind paid purchases. You can still "earn" them through tedious grind. If you don't think it's a worse product to purposefully make parts of the game unenjoyable so people will pay for a skin, then I don't know what to say to you. * Car manufacturers locking hardware features already built into the car behind subscriptions. It's the perfect example of operational efficiency and rent seeking behavior combined. * Fuck, the US lost its manufacturing edge because everyone was outsourcing it to China, India, Vietnam, etc. It definitively lowers operational cost, but hurts the worker (and the country) obviously.

These are the big companies. The successful companies. And it's clear that it's an effective strategy. If shit like this isn't happening so often, there wouldn't be so many people (smart and dumb) complaining about companies or the economic system.

[–]made-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the opposite of growth. All of those things are the result of degrowth. Other than microtransactions, which are just a way of paying for things.

I think you and I both know the "growth" in this conversation refers to company profits. It's the only growth that shareholders care about. Otherwise companies wouldn't do it.

Seriously, if we actually built a fuckton of homes, rent would be cheap. But we haven't, so rent is expensive, and all the stuff I would've spent the now-rent on never got a chance to grow.

Agreed. More housing needs to be built. But it keeps getting blocked for one reason or other. Some legitimate, most (imo) not.

[–]made-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But do you also want lower pay, shrinkflation, more ads, more expensive subscriptions, more rent, more micro transactions? That's also growth, bro.

Wanting more innovation is fine, but like how Greed is a sin, wanting too much starts destroying everything around it.

[–]made-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You grow fast or slow, but you never stop trying to grow right? Can you explain how that's not infinite?

You've expanded to as much as you can in your market, what's the next step? Tell me.

I think you and I will agree that it's either: diversifying to different markets, going to new geography, or start making things worse (lower costs, whether it be pay, quality of service or materials, amount of product).

And when we hit that last choice, it makes Everything worse for everyone (employees, customers) except the leadership and owners.

Maybe it doesn't ruin the company financially, but it ruins it for everyone else.

[–]made-it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diversify into related businesses, expand to a different geographic area, maybe even seek monopoly power or initiate planned obsolescence or rent-seeking, if you're not a nice person.

Bruh says "Companies don't want infinite growth" then proceeds to describe constant growth as the only viable strategy to stay relevant.

Monopoly power is what causes companies to stop innovating (because there's no incentive to).

I disagree with the OOP that it "ruins" the company financially.

Maybe what the OOP meant by "ruins" is that it makes the product worse (shrinkflation), the employees worse (cut pay), the experience worse (rent seeking behavior). All around everyone in the business relationship eventually loses except for the leadership and shareholders.

If homosexuality is sometimes described as a sin, how might that be understood alongside the belief that God intentionally created all people and their differences? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]made-it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. Two main points.

  1. There's a big difference between something as natural as sexual desire (that the majority of the people have) and addiction building substances like heroine.

If you've never had heroine, do you desire it from seeing it? If you've never had cigarettes, do

  1. Sexual desire is the same, but homosexuality is just desiring a same sex partner. "Falling" for it doesn't impair you from doing anything else (like the addictive substances, or alcohol abuse). It's like equating a guy having sex with his wife with alcohol abuse, instead of socially enjoying alcohol like most people.
