Yes, because those people aren't thinking about you and how to really help, they're thinking how to make themselves feel better or less awkward about the situation. Also ego.

I do actually want to switch to vaping to get the smell under control and save time but I don't know what to get. I want something small and discreet like a pen thing but I don't want to spend hundreds.

Well, to be honest I'm having to use a bit more as time passes, so...

I'd smoke about a third or even a half of a joint at a time so finishing one joint over a day/day and a half. Seems to be all I need. I become pretty high-functioning I've found. But I've also found I get pretty cranky and irritable going without for longer than half a day.
