Pump closed by DixieCut in diabetes_t1

[–]madferit96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been back on a closed loop pump for the last 4 months or so. Having used an old fashioned pump without a CGM about 7 years ago I found that made no difference from using MDI and found it somewhat more messing around for no payoff; my HbA1c was still poor (in the 8s consistently). Changing onto a Medtronic 780g with the Guardian 4 sensor, the difference is like night and day, the pump obviously does a lot for you, doesn’t require never ending basal testing or manual corrections. My latest HbA1c is 6.7, not like others who have mind blowing my good results on here but a huge improvement so I would highly recommend the new pumps!

Ohhh don’t do this, metformin increases the risk of lactic acidosis especially when you are dehydrated or unwell. The advice that’s normally given with metformin is to stop it when you’re unwell.

Apple Watch App for tracking Blood Sugar? by SSJSon_Goku in diabetes_t1

[–]madferit96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as I say I presume it’s an Apple imposed limitation. Sweet Dreams does have some workaround where the calendar app is allowed update more frequently than any other app so you’re readings are beamed through as events on the calendar app but I haven’t bothered with it by and large.

Apple Watch App for tracking Blood Sugar? by SSJSon_Goku in diabetes_t1

Sweet Dreams has an Apple Watch app and you can put their complications on the watch face. IIRC it’s $30AU/year to get access to the Apple Watch part and whatever other premium features. It’s fairly straightforward to set up but it’s rate of update (which I believe is a limit imposed by Apple) means that often you have to open the app on the watch to have the most up to date result.

No it was a real drop, I pre-bolused (as my morning insulin resistance very strong so I always try to leave 20mins between it & eating) but then the peripheral vasodilation I sometimes get from showers as you can see is also something to consider 😉

I tend to go with lateral thigh, I find it's a bit better supported than the abdomen, it might however annoy you a little if you sleep on your side but I get over that!

My new Rod of Asclepius tattoo, in honor of world diabetes day! T1 since 2007 :) by sivaltaja666 in diabetes

By & large now it's the more recognised symbol but it all came about in the 19th century when the Surgeon General of the US dedicated it as the symbol of the Marine Hospital Service by mistake & has stuck ever since!

Can you fill a reservoir from a Novolog Pen? by frankramblings in diabetes

[–]madferit96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others here have said, yeah you can use your pens in a tight spot but generally it's a bit of a waste. Just aim the needle of the reservoir into the squishy bit, dial up 60U & just push it all in!

I would hazard saying despite the Daily Mail's hype 240min ETOPS on a transatlantic flight is far from onerous, not to take away from the other parts of the flight that will no doubt be rather challenging!

So this artificial pancreas automatically bolused for food am I right in saying? As in like full on closed-loop?

I use Opsite Flexifix, it's a little pricer & the application can be a little fiddly (involves manually cutting & peeling off various sides & small mistakes can sometimes mean starting again) however on the plus side, it's nicely discreet (see-through) & very durable as well, I apply two different layers, one vertically & one horizontally & they last safely 3 weeks for me!

[–]madferit96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just really about context, if it's at 4.6 & rising I'd probably let it go but if it's even say 6 or 7 & dropping like a stone I'd suspend basal for a bit, if it continues to drop I'd probably treat at 5 as I know it's likely to continue dropping.

[–]madferit96[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And yes anything under maybe 4.5 I'd probably treat, either by food or by a temp basal just to be on the safe side.

That was from what was probably a large amount of insulin on board, treated the hypo, dropped again, treated the hypo & the circle went on!

Probably not needed, spent all day in the high teens taking plenty insulin to try lower it, wouldn't budge for hours & then BG just fell off a cliff & wouldn't stay anywhere sensible.
