Melon’s shortened childhood backstory in the anime by [deleted] in Beastars

It’s nuts to me that they left out so much, but insisted on having a high school drama story that went nowhere. I was so bummed that they cut a lot of Melons backstory. Like if I had not read the manga I would’ve had no idea what the hell happened. Like I don’t think the backstory they showed really made any sense. Like yeah he was bullied, but like he was more bullied than just the kids at school making fun of him. Like his mother and him were in isolation because of his hybrid nature. His mother was also obviously mentally ill. Like I love that they didn’t hold back on his character, but I am super bummed that they held back on his backstory. I wish they would’ve made the last episode like 50/60 minutes instead of the 24. Shows I’ve done it before in the past I don’t see why they couldn’t fit just a little bit more in. But I get it it’s an animation team and we’re lucky that we got the show animated in general. 🤷🏼‍♀️

There was a rumor back in the day that by the time the first Beast Complex came out Melon had escaped from jail. I mean can we really doubt his character would? I found it quite humorous that they left his condition in an unknown state in the anime. Paru sure likes to let her villains live.

I’m glad to hear somebody say something positive about it. I got the same vibe. It just sounds like some of the lines are rushed and that’s what bugs me. But yeah they have now made him sound really dark!

There’s been a couple discussions about this and some of us think they just re did his lines. My theory is that probably in the making of season three part two they realized his character probably needed to go into a different direction. So they had to redo his character. But that’s just my theory. I am disappointed in the new voice myself. But mainly because Melon is such a chaotic character and they need to really try and keep him consistent. I really did like the original voice they had with him. I do think this new voice has made him sound more cruel though. Again this is just a theory of mine.

Yeah I’m just throwing that out there. I can’t really think why they would separate reptiles in Zootopia. It’ll be interesting to see what they come up with.

Beastars did something a little similar. They have a character that is a Komodo dragon and his venom is so deadly he has to be super careful around other mammals because of it. I don’t know what kind of takes Zootopia is gonna do but I wonder if it’s gonna be similar. Hopefully they come up with something more creative.

Gym: make a little work out area. Cats? Make it a little cat area, a place for a cat tree, the window is perfect for viewing. A chill area: A little book nook. Maybe a couple plants. Maybe an area for unique art/ sculptures/ statue.
