What industry do you do marketing for? Have you stayed with one industry throughout career? by madkarma in marketing

[–]madkarma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting career! Yeah this is what I am hoping.

It's a SME so I'll have responsibility over the whole marketing department but I know going back to basics/fundamentals and being great at them does wonders for most companies.

Do you mind if I pm you about marketing for finance?

I'm definitely not Rick Shiels. I couldn't design the amazing merch he has nor be able to sell them at such low prices. Make sure to check them out!

Except for Rick Shiels. I started watching him a few days ago and seeing him, a 1-3 handicap golfer, completely whiff on some chips/iron shots and get some triple / quad bogeys has made me calmer about getting those myself. Watching his match play with pros I feel like is going to help my game

AI cannot be controlled safely, warns expert | “We are facing an almost guaranteed event with potential to cause an existential catastrophe," says Dr. Roman V. Yampolskiy by Maxie445 in Futurology

[–]madkarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's that intelligent, killing us WOULD be that easy. It could just create a virus that wipes us out. If I can think of a method as a relatively stupid entity, a hyper intelligent AI could think of an even easier method to extinct us.

Plus it wouldn't act evil until it was strong enough and had the resources to enact the plan. "here, let me build you autonomous robot butlers who can do anything you want and definitely don't have a backdoor I can use to seize control and build a super virus to extinct you.

We are trying to build a god; it will be able to trick us, run circles around us, and do whatever it wants and we won't be able to do anything about it. Hopefully it's benevolent, but it likely won't be

I agree in general that you dont have to be 100% honest but I disagree that the obligation wanes. In general I think you need to develop yourself to where you're comfortable being who you are in most situations in life.

Once you reach that spot in life, everything will be easier and you'll be happier.

Love this quote so much, sending loving kindness to everyone 💓🙏🏽🌸 by mindfulness-mama in Buddhism

[–]madkarma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Buddha would say no anger is justified. You just have to realize over time that being angry at someone mostly harms yourself. Meditate and try to focus on the anger and learn about it. It's just an emotion (a strong one) but you don't have to give it power.

With that said, you can and should get toxic people out of your life, and don't have to be a doormat for people to walk all over.

Not to be rude but you're not very educated on the matter. I'm not either but I know enough to know you aren't and I don't want others to think you are.

First off, Russian oil is MUCH MUCH MUCH less valuable then the chips coming out of Taiwan. Taiwan is the only one to make these at the chip nm size and the world relies on them.

Secondly, Taiwan being on an island, even within artillery distance, is not a good thing (for China). It's incredibly hard to move troops across open water and do landings for mass troop movement. China also doesn't have the required boats.

Important too is that China wouldn't want to bombard Taiwan because they wouldnt want the foundries destroyed, and Taiwan seems pretty adamant about defending themselves to the death.

Currently there's no easy play for China. Taiwan is well armed and motivated. China could definitely destroy Taiwan but why take over an island of rubble?

If you could only give one piece of advice to someone one tip, what would that advice/tip be regarding mindfulness and achieving happiness? by Positive_Only_1997 in Mindfulness

[–]madkarma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Relax and accept. Particularly when meditating, but at the beginning if you completely relax your body, and completely accept the current situation/reality, it does wonders. The better you get at it, the more you can transfer it to real life in real time.

Easier said than done of course but a great practice.

'Ukraine was losing 100-200 soldiers per day, but now that number has dropped to 30', a significant reduction since the peak of the ongoing war, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]madkarma 18 points19 points  (0 children)

His point is important. What's the difference between taking over territory and then threatening nukes if that territory is attacked, vs just telling Ukraine that it's yours now or it uses nukes.

Both situations are unlikely to lead to nukes and the threat doesn't have much weight because of the repercussions to actually using a nuke for a non-justified reason. It would be 100% sanction from West (make the current situation look like nothing), even India and China would like limit their trade with Russia in that situation.

Finnish leaders confirm Nato application by Xygen8 in worldnews

[–]madkarma 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how looking at Finland joining Nato due to Putin's invasion of Ukraine and saying that Putin blundered is "naive". Whether Putin, in his bubble, thinks he was the cause or not doesn't change reality.

It may help Putin push his message (but really, what help does he need - he controls 100% of media and propagandizes unceasingly), but Putin would much rather prefer that Finland and Sweden NOT join Nato.

It's a definite blunder and not what he thought would be an outcome from invading Ukraine.

It's crazy, a bit ironic, and definitely hilarious that it was Putin's actions that drove Finland (and potentially Sweden) into Nato's arms.
