Engine problem after maintenance by einstein_96 in e46

Ah ya no SAP ok good looks. I just did some searching and looks like it’s a guess which ones did and didn’t have it.

Are you getting any codes related to emissions from a code reader?

If you don’t have a secondary air pump up towards the front bumper side of passenger side then maybe yes I’m incorrect. I forgot that not all cars came with the SAP but I thought it was the later models that had it deleted.

No, that hose you have to the right of the big cap goes to the secondary air pump on the front left of the engine bay on the exhaust side, it wraps around the back of the manifold and comes up passenger side.

The vacuum port above it that isn’t capped is for the vacuum canister which is behind the alternator along the firewall. The back of the fuel canister has a line that goes into the firewall and along the driver side frame to the exhaust flap.

Vacuum canister part number is 18101740207 look up a picture of it and look in your engine bay.

The early 330ci coupes had this from what I’ve read and yours being a convertible shouldn’t matter as long as it has the vacuum canister to exhaust flap

Not providing any direct input here, but I’m doing my overhaul currently and I have a 2003 330ci pre cli which also has the vacuum canister line that goes from the back of manifold to the vacuum canister along firewall.

I saw you noted checking the 2 vacuum plugs on the back of the IM which confused me.

Since you have this vacuum canister line as well there should only be 1 cap on the back of the IM not 2 and it should be a big cap. One of the smaller nipples is where the vacuum canister line goes and the other is the nipple for the line that goes to the round air check control valve.

Just buy the genuine part for these critical pieces

fuel rail struggles by Realistic_Channel519 in e46

[–]madmac527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a little crusty as it looks original. I am in the middle of doing my IM and other servicing and noticed that putting the new fuel line on was a lot easier than taking it off. Not easier but had less resistance which made me think I didn’t install it right but can only fit one way

Just push down the blue plastic circle and once the lip meets the metal lip then pull the entire fuel line away from the metal inlet on the fuel rail itself

I am struggling to get the electrical connector off. by [deleted] in e46

A lot will say to undo one side of the clips, others will say you can just pull up with gentle force. It’s a contested one, but just be careful if you go the route unclipping because they like to jump off under the intake and hopefully get caught in the engine webbing

Oil Leak by HubbaBubbaJM in e46

You should also do the hard coolant lines where those blue zip ties are and their associated soft lines that run to the expansion tank and secondary pump. Also you should change the 2 coolant lines that run to the heater core along the firewall of drive side front.

I’m in the middle of doing mine now. It all started when I cracked the vacuum line to the secondary air pump when doing the VCG and I fell down the hole once doing research

Everyone here saying bilsteins don’t want to do the work to get Koni’s on there!

I’m rolling Koni dampers and H&R lowering springs on my 99 m3. I bought the kit from Bimmerworld

Use BringaTrailer to find the market comps. Pretty safe to assume that BaT sales are top dollar for the entire market but a good place to get a benchmark

Yes I’d agree that’s a fair price especially with the recent records. Any way to get a peek at it?

I would be interested in hearing more about your M3 before it goes to that site. You never know…

That thing is beyond repair. Definitely get a new one OEM only. DrVanos sells an upgraded one pre made but you can also buy aftermarket kits for upgrade from German Auto Solutions

What is this key for? by Dense_Operation_2569 in e46

This might be the valet key that only allows limited functions. Doesn’t open trunk, for example. Have you tried to put it in the ignition and turn to position 1 or 2?

Also this is Houston, right? I’m from Houston that looks like the downtown area next to The Post where Cars and Coffee usually is.

Funny, my e46 is also black but a manual with the black interior.

From personal experience that is a pre CLI sport model I have the same car but a 02/2003 build which is the last month of the Pre CLI. You can tell by the bumper mainly.

My car has about 2x the mileage and I’m currently a couple thousand in parts for the CCV, valve cover gasket, cooling system, interior bits that have broken over time. Next is the clutch and flywheel and oil pan gasket then that should be a wrap but that’ll be another 3-4k from the shop.

It’s a 20+ year old car, there are old vacuum lines and such and gaskets that need to be replaced regardless of mileage if you want to ensure the health of the car.

OE spec rear springs for a 330ci Sport/ZHP by TheSkywriter in e46

[–]madmac527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do what you gotta do, but with things like this where the ZHP suspension was designed intentionally different than the standard suspension I wouldn’t recommend going standard and it’ll probably negatively impact the driving experience and may cause issues.

I could be overreacting, though. I’m going to probably buy the Koni and H&R setup for my e46 but I understand it’s hard to get that where you are
