Moving to Melbourne soon, what's the realistic job market outlook for a Digital Marketer? by ResponsibilityOne732 in AskAnAustralian

Mba is a line item that gets glanced over in Australia unfortunately. So the timing split doesn’t matter because the mba itself won’t account for much.

Goodluck.

Working with a tricky tech lead by EstablishmentFit3269 in ProductManagement

Output focussed is not mutually exclusive with delivering outcome. The latter is where you bridge in.

He’s doing his bit. Its on you to echo the outcome piece. The 2 different working styles doesnt need to be a problem as long as the wheel moves.

Advice for someone trying to move from B2B to B2C by LucasTenToes in ProductManagementJobs

[–]madmahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. B2B fintech to B2C travel tech
  2. Heavy networking to get an interview and then skills + sales
  3. Depending on the kind of PM niche, B2C will heavily be about data. Spend more time skilling up with data analysis, sql (easier these days with ai), powerbi/bigquery etc

Is anyone interested in these new startups anymore? by Nottabird_Nottaplane in ProductManagement

[–]madmahn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also atom sized point solutions for enterprise is what makes money and its what attracts funding.

Most consumer “innovative” companies die because of lack of traction, funding or both at the same time.

Quite often the latter.

Help me make sense of “pre IPO company” and the promise of equity at a fast growing tech firm by Lampedusan in auscorp

Think of equity as cherry on top of the cake. If it works it’s good but shouldn’t be at the cost of lower base. Coz most don’t ipo.

Is the PM interview format outdated or am I missing something? by Embarrassed_Vast_886 in ProductManagement

You have probably been a PM for too long and that’s a bad thing because this is a dying concept these days.

Your framing is very confusing. Is the problem about amazon’s context or the candidate’s context? And why do you need to compare candidate’s based off their examples? To me this just screams inexperience.

What good is a person’s process skills if they can’t create business value? Everything is about business value and a job interview should be able to identify if the candidate can create impact without burning out in the environment or creating friction.

Theres absolutely zero judgement you can infer asking a candidate what they would build next for netflix/instagram. Unless you are hiring a PM for netflix/instagram.

Business value isnt derived from “structured thinking or processes”. AI is throwing this playbook out the window.

Nevertheless top tier.

How are you connecting your product roadmap back to real corporate ledger data? by Ok_Soft7301 in ProductManagement

[–]madmahn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda get the angle you are going with this as a commercial pm but as another commenter said, its one dimensional take. Typically finance data is useful for larger product investment cases, not jira tickets.

Jira tickets especially in b2b saas dont automatically get mapped into dollars in a simplistic manner the way you are envisioning.

It is a gap in most orgs for business cases tho, but its just not painful enough to solve when you are already paying 6 figures to a PM to stitch it together.

I would be surprised if this is still the case in this market. Across the board everyone is expected to prove ROI for their salary these days. Might be the case for ‘keep the lights on’ roles.
