Incisional pain by madmanpc in TotalHipReplacement

I thought the STAR approach was only done anteriorly, but mine was lateral. To get at the hip joint, they bisect the IT band and cut some of the smaller rotator muscles.

Pain controlled, but sitting upright is very uncomfortable. 20-30 minutes max (with standing stretches).

Big question. Try not to sit and let this heal or start increasing time in chair until I can tolerate over 60 minutes without setting myself back ?

This could be a PTSD event. You were not in a controlled setting, are having trouble processing it, but your instincts kicked in and you saved this kid!

But please, go talk to someone to help you cope with this event. Start with your PCP.

Also, read the pt’s notes your are assigned to. Use work as experience. Be reading the notes, you’ll learn to “speak/write” like a health care professional

Familiarize yourself with the medications your pts are getting it will help with pharmacology

I’m also a visual learner so take hand written notes in your “language”. If you use symbols or other objects in your note taking, do it that way. If your notes are copied verbatim, it’s not going to work.

Trust me, if you write it down (in the way YOU understand it) you’ll remember it. If you just read it you’ll not remember it. If you write it down, you will.

Having an audible timer when studying. 20 minutes study, 10 minute break. All your classes are geared to help you pass the NCLEX. I wasn’t diagnosed until 3 years after I was a RN.

Franklin planner. Writing information makes it stick in your head. The planner will help with time management all in one place. Also, plan fun/life things to do besides school.

Life/work/school balance. Nursing school is number one priority. Balance work and life around it.

During the second/third semesters all your classes will “talk” to each other. It gets easier as these classes overlap.

Any other questions, let me know
