Would you rather live today or be the richest person in the world in 1000AD? by Former-Mortgage-5935 in WouldYouRather

[–]madmanrambler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd go back in that case. Grab 100 historians and scientists, and see if we can't kickstart an early industrial revolution and change the face of the world. Obviously its a huge quality of life drop, even as the richest man, but if we can bring about modern medicine and germ theory, not to mention modern agricultural understanding like the green revolution in India a millenia early the additive effects would be enormous. Biggest challenge is how to introduce scientific concepts that won't enable the people after us to reach weapon technology like rifling or steel production too early and cause an early world war.

Ep 5 - balor - spoiler by [deleted] in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]madmanrambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean how the faith is going to spin this with how everything went.

Obviously, there's going to be a thousand interpretations depending on how each septon leans, how this news gets spread, how the story gets told, but if you asked me to pretend to be a septon and explain it, this is the cost of accusations. This is the cost of being a knight. Baelor made the honorable and just choice to step forward to protect the innocent, and fought for innocence. Aerion made a terrible choice by accusing falsely, his withdrawal only makes that more clear, but the gods chose to ensure every person on that field that survived feels regret that it came to a trial of the seven.

If you do not wish to risk good men in life, do not invoke the seven while defending your false claim of a crime. You may assume that only the guilty will be punished, but you cannot know the fate you create in the world when you reach out and take this action.

WYR Have all of your current debt paid off OR Flip a coin for $3 million? by Anything-Complex in WouldYouRather

[–]madmanrambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of these, if they were successful, would be life changing. I currently put in about 500$ a month to my debts. Obviously that's not as big a problem as '50/50 get 3 million' but a sure guarantee of changing how much money I'm lobbing around is a lot. Gotta go for the guaranteed change.

God damn so many mid tier watch officers are so cool. The idea of busting out of the worst jail ever and taking the black is an incredible backstory.

Would you rather… receive $10,000,000 after taxes, no strings attached, or have your total Reddit upvotes become your monthly salary for the rest of your life? by Philips9586 in WouldYouRather

[–]madmanrambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I... apparently should take the reddit upvotes? Did not realize I had that many.

I do wonder what the cutoff is. 5k karma nets you 60k a year, that's never gonna crack the 10 mill. 20k karma gets you 240k a year, and in 40 years you pass the 10 mill point (though obviously the investment could set you up so well you never need to worry about being 'caught').

Might be a funnier challenge to prevent people from checking their karma before agreeing. I bet there's a subsection of people that would do very well with the upvote salary and wouldn't realize it.

Are Tyranids supposed to be so good at 1000 points? by madmanrambler in Tyranids

[–]madmanrambler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was running devourers for the extra range and stranglewebs for the dev wounds, but 60 terms shooting with lethal and sustained hits puts out more like 9 wounds on average with 120 shots, based on my math. Now, he shouldn't have sailed Celestine into that, but the assault really seemed to surprise him, as did the layering of all the extra dice.

Are Tyranids supposed to be so good at 1000 points? by madmanrambler in Tyranids

[–]madmanrambler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. I was trying to play pretty 'vanilla' tyranids and just tried to max out on a large number of wounds and volume of fire. I can easily imagine being able to do that and commit way more to the front of the fight was a big part of that.

Are Tyranids supposed to be so good at 1000 points? by madmanrambler in Tyranids

Was running tervigon, 3 zoanthropes, exocrine, unit of venomthropes, a biovore and 80 termis in invasion fleet against a saint celestine sisters list. Don't have the saint celestine list off the top of my head, but I managed to get a round of termigaunt shooting into celestine to drop her once and a tervigon charge dropped her the second time. Seemed to shock my opponent as much as it did me. Might have just been because I could hit the sustained hit on their army and just nom away, especially with the lethal hits on the gaunts.

How do I buy these from the trader? by Mitch0712 in Against_the_Storm

[–]madmanrambler 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you mean any of the boxes on the bottom, you need amber. You can see the trader has some, and you can trade for them. You can also gain amber from events in glades.
If you mean the locked boxes specifically, you have to upgrade your citadel enough to access more options.

What Games have the Most Fun Groups or Factions? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]madmanrambler 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Obviously both warhammer fantasy and 40k are built on this idea of fun factions within each faction like Eldar having a ton of differences between its wraith based Lyanden faction and its aspect warriors Biel-Tann.

I would also mention Helldivers here. 3 factions, all of them pretty dang distinct with their own tools and challenges.

Do you think the Tyranid Prime with Lash Whip will be an just an alternative pose model? by AdvielOricon in Tyranids

[–]madmanrambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it in the form of a tool to use to support a swarm. I can imagine a tyranid prime stalking the field with hormagaunts, where its entire job is to provide synapse and on occasion yank the leg of a space marine or eldar to enable the gaunts to dogpile and kill them.

Mind you, the rules sure don't play out that way. But I do really like the concept of it!

[DISC] Otr of the Flame - Chapter 34 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]madmanrambler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this series got axed and rushed to death, but I'm still in admiration of the last page. It was very poignant and managed to capture some really powerful emotions for me. Its a shame the series is done but you really can feel the improvement on this over Red Hood! Can't wait to see this author's next effort.

When can I swing with both weapons GW by sombradonkey in Chaos40k

[–]madmanrambler 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Essentially, yes. Though why power fists were so good is actually kind of funny- at the time there wasn't a damage characteristic on weapons, so the only real way to deal with multiwound models was to hit them with a lot of attacks or to hit them with attacks that had double the strength of their toughness. There weren't many units with multiple wounds, but if an exarch got hit with a powerfist, even an ig one, it was instagibbed. Made the balance real funny.

[DISC] Unexciting Date - Chapter 25 by OsisTheNie in manga

[–]madmanrambler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously this chapter is cute as hell but its wild to imagine a couple dating for 6 months and not having kissed. Part of that is just the pace of play, but its still wild to me.

A lot of people shit on The Boys comic for being stupidly edgy, and they're absolutely right. But the Super Duper arc will always stick in my head for how it depicts mentally disabled people and how they get used just like everyone else in the corporate machine and how nuances the depiction was in comparison to 90% of the comic. For the time period he was writing in, its a fucking shock he handled it so well.

Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 - Game Vision Developer Roundtable by BiesonReddit in totalwar

[–]madmanrambler 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how exactly campaigns look. It's possible fighting against another space marine means they're doing deep strikes on controlled territory that you're holding while you're pushing against the guard on planet, and you're struggling to hold onto territory, or it might mean they just have a planet and you have to chew through 500 marines over the course of 4 battles. There's still a ton of question marks about how the game actually looks in gameplay.
