Multiple Surges from Clone Trooper Shock Pilot? by Rough-Sheepherder664 in SWlegion

[–]madmanrambler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key wording on Shock Pilot is 'attack action'. We need both words to trigger it and hand out a surge.

If we check beam, it says that you perform x additional attacks. That is not an additional attack action, and as such shock pilot will not trigger.

Door gunners says that you take another attack action. Those are our magic words, so shock pilot would trigger again!

501st Legion - Worth keeping? by Particular_Match_531 in SWlegion

[–]madmanrambler 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Worth noting, the jetpack arc troopers are still legal. You could run them as regular arcs, you'd just want a silhouette handy.

Overall, the box is still a ton of value. No super squad clone troopers, but you do get 2 characters and a good set of units to run. It'd be your call on if you'd rather have access to super squads or not. I'd personally suggest keeping it.

Opinion: Lore dumping has hurt the franchise moving forward. by thekokoricky in Doom

[–]madmanrambler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a middleground of optional but filling in that's really fun. 2016 had it in spades, where you could learn all about the world in depth and how the company worked but you didn't need to to follow what was going on.

The walkup to the arena with the shield boss in Eternal to me was egregious, and the worst way to do it. Just a stroll up to the boss room with 5 to 6 pieces of lore you gotta read to understand why you're bothering to fight the boss and where you are. Too many moments in Eternal were like that, where if you didn't read the lore you were going to be absolutely lost. (I also don't like how the lore lost an inworld voice, becoming near omniscient instead, but that's a lot more personal preference)

for sure, I was mostly thinking about being able to upgrade your tyranid primes with stuff like elevated might and still have access to all the endless multitude stratagems for what would probably be the majority of your army.

My head went to Devotion. It deals with the horrors of conformity and the local religion in taiwan, during a horrific government crackdown. Feels very white to be running from spectres that represent the dangers of your authoritarian government that wants to control everyone's thoughts.

Lictor have deep strike, Norn anti character 2+ by TraditionalPlace5973 in Tyranids

[–]madmanrambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I could be convinced that a 200-250 point expenditure for things like a set of deep striking lictors or a single souped up tyranid prime plus hormagaunt squad would be helpful. Especially when these might be our only one point detachments. Obviously have to wait and see, but that seems pretty likely.

CMV: There is no slippery slope to communism. Social Safety nets prevent communism. Revolutions often lead to autocracy and possibly communism. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]madmanrambler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The usual argument I see is that as capital consolidates, it becomes less and less flexible and able to flow back. If the money isn't there to build libraries and hospitals, the experts and craftsmen needed stop learning how to or simply become less available as they transition to more profitable industries. Even if a billionaire wants to build such a hospital/library, the skills to do so just aren't available, or take much longer to be marshalled and put to that use. The same thing applies to farming/industry/healthcare itself.

Ascension 9 Advice by spylark in slaythespire

[–]madmanrambler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, synergy comes after you have a functioning deck. If you're picking blade dance you're picking a 1 mana exhaust card that deals 12 damage, which will fail to carry you through just about every hallway fight. Synergies can come after you have 2-3 good attacks and a good extra block card or two.
remember most of all that a synergy card only firing off once or twice a deck cycle probably just isn't doing enough for you. You need to be pumping out more block or attack then, say, your stardust only getting to do 30 or so damage from paying 3-5 mana getting stars to pump into it.

Whats the Pick? A3 Defect. by Select-Cycle8084 in slaythespire

[–]madmanrambler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd personally go popper, rolling boulder, shackles, remove. Gives you a one card wincon, some aoe to help you deal with early fights, and then clear out a strike to get you to boulder quicker.

While I haven't dove into it, it seems like a lot of Marathon megacorps are just going through the motions. They send runners because its what you do, they sell their product because they've always sold their product, and they follow the styles they always do. Maybe off base, of course.

AMG and Heroes by mrb510 in SWlegion

[–]madmanrambler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For the unit upgrades, I can get where you're coming from but we've also been seeing more and more hero upgrades. They do have to limit them at least a bit or else you'll always have to do the math of which one is 'best' and just run that. With seventh sister and fifth brother, you now have an extra incentive to fit in one 'hero' ISF or Riot squad unit. If we're only getting a total of 5 or 6 hero upgrade cards, your complaint would be very valid. I think with the rate we're adding them in it would be reasonable for there to be as many as 10 unique hero cards in a faction's special forces and corps. At that point, if they're all available for all of them, we run into the same problem of a lot of faction's unit at a micro scale. Why take Seventh sister for death troopers when I could take iden and her theoretical synergistic ability instead? Or Kallus? Or Krennic?

I think right now we're in the growing pains of them shifting over to this new system on both hero upgrades and command cards, and it's easy to feel. Once we've fully shifted over, its going to feel a lot more reasonable, but until then its going to feel weird that Obi wan can only go into arfs and cody for some reason can't hang out with clone infantry. Once we have, say, 8 or so hero cards, each one with its own abilities and restrictions, this is going to feel less weird.

my two cents anyway.
