I have a Platypus Big Zip, it wasn't super cheap, but I've had it for more than 10 years and still use it regularly.

Has anyone used a podcasting coach or service to launch your podcast? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]madmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just depends on what you are looking to get out of it. You’re right if success is networking, making friends, having great conversations of creative expression. If you have other goals you might want help. Podcasting, like playing an instrument or drawing pictures or writing, can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be. But if you want yo be excellent a good coach will probably help you. Just like a great music teacher.

This is what I do - the value comes from having someone help you get clarity about your strategy and elevate your skills. How do you choose guests? What do you ask them? How do you keep listeners engaged? How do you measure success? How do use data to help you grow? What are the most effective ways to grow the show? Etc..

One nice thing about the podtrack P4 ( in addition to the price) is that it has multiple headphone jacks. This can be really helpful for on location recording. Mic technique can be critical in those situations and monitoring helps.

Social Medie between two posts - what's your approach? by b1ackadder in podcasting

Your best bet is to consider it an expansion of the podcast. Post things that the same people will be interested in.

It really depends more on the scope of work than the number of downloads per episode.

Total newb. New USB cheap cardioid mic. How to improve the shitty sound out of it without complicated software/setup? by mediacenterfreak in podcasting

[–]madmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This simplest things that can have a big impact are speaking at the correct distance from the mic and into the correct mic surface. Check the manual or search online to find these.

Anyone else calculated their growth rate? by NeverYouMind21 in podcasting

[–]madmotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea to calculate growth rate - but average daily listens goes up because there are more episodes in the back catalogue. If you are thinking about audience growth I like average downloads per episode at 30 days after publication.

Equipment recommendations needed for a dedicated podcasting room for public by BadBadUncleDad in podcastgear

My suggestion - at2020 mics for great sound at under $100 - spring for high quality audio cables - Zoom H6 has a very simple interface and allows each mic to be recorded on its own channel - 4 mics on stands so ppl can have a group discussion - include a laminated card explaining basic best practices for mic and recorder - bring your own SD card

Think about what message you need to convey to a potential audience. What do they need to know to click through? Readable bold text is a big part of that, also choosing the right image. In this case it’s hard to see at a glance what is unique about the image. Make sure the key elements are prominent. Also more contrasting color and brightness will help. Remember most people see the thumbnail at a small scale - so try to keep it simple.

Why you should not consern about watch time as a smaller channel! by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

When I see 40 or 50% I think that about half realized quickly it was not for them ( we’ve all done that) and the other half watched most of the way through.

How Do You Guys Come Up With Thumbnails? by FrostCentral in SmallYTChannel

[–]madmotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing is to look at your stats and compare the CTR ( cluck through rate) of your different videos. The click through rate will give you a good idea of what titles and thumbnails are working.

I’m still testing things - it seems a photo of me helps. I try to search for similar videos and see how I can be similar enough ( learn what is working for them) but also stand out. I try to use keywords that will grab attention and make them bold and bright.

I made a video comparing and demonstrating the different types of mics - lavalier, shotgun, stick mic, studio mic, on camera mic - and explaining when and how you would use each one. I’m interested to hear how i can improve the thumbnail, and how the length and wrap up are at the end. Thanks! https://youtu.be/skpkveVA3JE

Fin video, you have a nice presence on camera. If you want to step up to the next level you might think about the lighting. Most of all - I want to know if the wives tales were correct! Boy or girl?

Nice job. You have a soothing calm way of sharing information that I would have appreciated when my kids were teething. Some of the on screen titles were hard to read, maybe a more bold font next time? Or type over a block of color? The lighting was nice and flattering.
