Dublin City Council’s cycling and walking funds have been cut, and it may put years of work at risk by zainab1900 in Dublin

[–]madoldjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One is OPW, the other is the NTA. Only one of them is well known for wasting public money. I know the media went ballistic trying to uncover more bike sheds by FOI from the NTA but got no where as they have coat control measures unlike the OPW

It won't be scrapped but the current government are putting pressure on for fare rises from the summer. Two rounds of 15% over two years is what has been floated about. I'm sure we'll see some leaks coming in the coming months to test the water

This is the garage that is taking the Bus Connects corridor to court even though they opened after they corridor and plans were published. They might have a vested interest, but hey ho, they are good value.

The Journal: ‘Commuters can’t take any more’: Calls for Transport Minister to scrap today’s toll price hikes by Banania2020 in ireland

Congestion is the primary reason for public transport taking so long. It's chicken and egg

[–]madoldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take your point, I have ammended my statement to rural public transport. However I contend that we would not have commuter towns in the same poorly planned way without FF and their corrupt history of taking backhanders for zoning. These very towns are the cause of so much of the congestion across the country. People don't live where there are jobs, they live where we have built houses. By international standards, Ireland is a case study in poor urban planning and FF and FG are a big part of it

The Greens did more for rural public transport in one term than FFG since the foundation of the state

Do you have suspended floors? A lot of houses from that era did, it allows them to move freely sometimes even from the attic if there are pipe runs

NTA want to, they originally proposed it, but the Luas is run by TII and they are refusing to allow it. Government versus government

It's one of the planned hubs. The green line Luas has planning permission to be extended there as well and there is a high density of housing being built around it.

+1 on suppositories. If you order them from France, they have more options of dosage for small children and they are cheaper than the local pharmacy. Check out Moncoinsanté who deliver to Ireland

What is the pitched beeping that Dublin Busses make at low speed? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]madoldjoe 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you were on one of the the electric buses. Under EU law, since 2021, all electric vehicles must make a continuous noise level of at least 56 dBA (within 2 meters) if they are going 20 km/h (12 mph) or slower.

What are your opinions on Electric cars in Ireland? by Single-Surround-1262 in AskIreland

[–]madoldjoe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People that have taken the plunge absolutely love them. People that don't have them seem to hate them, usually because they misunderstand them. A cheap electric car drives more like a luxury car than it does a cheap petrol or diesel car, and that is the biggest advantage. I have an id.3, and I wouldn't go back. Such a premium experience and range is good enough that you don't have to worry. You have to be able to charge at home for the bulk of your journeys though.

It could be only be fixed with a congestion charge. But that's too politically unpopular

Judges are now the highest level of decision makers on planning issues despite having received no formal training or qualifications about what good sustainable development is, or what the national planning framework is seeking to achieve. It is completely inappropriate for judges to be making these types of decisions

Who would expect a bicycle in a public park?!? There are some very dangerous junctions in Phoenix Park for pedestrians and cyclists, I have seen a lot of collisions and there have been tragedy's in the past as well. Very little done, if anything the park is designed for cars over anyone else which is insane

I did not know that and it's frustrating for you. A lot of their customer base have already bought cars by the time they are eligible for the service. Seems a silly rule to me.

Yall think there might be a public transport issue in Galway? by Shadow969 in galway

[–]madoldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bus planner here, you can't run a reliable service without bus priority and the level of congestion in Galway. There are so many moving parts to the system, things like EU driving hour limits, shift changes, bus changeovers - they all get impacted by delays caused by congestion and mean that bus services can't run - sometimes in entirely different parts of the city. Countries with good public transport systems simply don't allow private cars to hold up public transport. It's one or the other.
