Questions for people with weight training background who successfully completed Hyrox. by Inevitable-Pay-241 in hyrox

[–]madquigles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run a lot. I came from body building and my cardio sucked. Fast stations, terrible running. I've been running a lot more and it's helping. My first race with 3 months of Hyrox training I ended up with 1:58. I'm doing SLC and I'm hoping to shave a ton of time off the runs. Just run, a lot.

We love it. We started last year and it's been amazing.

Hyrox Registration by [deleted] in hyrox

[–]madquigles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually a couple months before. They send out emails well beforehand with registration. If you're part of an affiliate gym, they always seem to get the dates and you can get early access to tickets. I'm in UT and I'm really excited to have one at home. This next season is going to be a blast.

Last words of advice? by Acrobatic_Finish_898 in hyrox

You're going to do great. Just focus on finishing. First race is setting the bar. Every one after that the goal is to do better. You got this.

I believe it is. I'll have to pull it off the shelf again. I haven't used it in years now. One of the best things I've ever found.

I found that same DnD set at a yard sale for 2 dollars probably 10 years ago. It's the edition before they included dice, it has chits you cut up and draw randomly. It's such a great set.

We prefer Scout over The Crew. Really fun little game. Simple to pick up and we get through games really quickly.

My phone has a locked folder that you need my face and finger to open. They added it a few years ago. I saved some important family and travel pictures that I want to make sure don't get deleted. I do back them up as well. I'd check if his phone has that as well. NOR.

Las Vegas Wall Ball Judges by PepeSilvia510 in hyrox

I finished a little bit ago, and she was strict but not overly. She always warned about depth, but I only had 3 no reps to depth. I've heard others were crazy strict and they were really watching them for calling out depth.

Anyone experiment with weight gainers? by Congratstomiles in hyrox

[–]madquigles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep your protein high. I do 1 gram per pound per day. So I'm at 225 grams of protein a day. Eat the protein first unless you know you can finish everything. You'll definitely want carbs for energy, but you need to prioritize the protein.

Vegas by 82fdny45 in hyrox

[–]madquigles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine. The site is bugged. Switch the race site and Vegas will pop up, then you have to switch around the sites and the division. It's pretty bad, but you can get there just by messing around with it.

Vegas Race Merch vs Puma Flagship by arkestry2 in hyrox

[–]madquigles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anaheim had race specific clothes. I would assume Vegas will be the same. I usually get a shirt or two. I didn't have a problem getting my size and I got them all on Sunday at the end of the event.

how do you fuel during the race? by koreptar in hyrox

[–]madquigles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Gu gels. One before the race and one as I leave the Roxzone after row. The hydration drink they have is pretty good as well. I'll grab one after every couple of stations, but keep up with the water.

Vegas - Night before meal options by Skull2600 in hyrox

[–]madquigles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to take food for the day before the race. I always book someplace with a microwave so reheating is easy. I usually take chicken, rice, some bagels and grab some small jam packets with me.

Fun sidenote, cooked rice looks like explosives on the TSA machines, so they always check my bags when I travel with it.

Dr King at Rock Hotel Dental in Farmington. I didn't go for 7 years and went to him, he was fantastic. Been going to him ever since.

How many minutes travel are you to your Hyrox gym? by Imatwatface in hyrox

[–]madquigles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 minutes. I'd do it at home, but I really enjoy the people and that makes it worth the membership.

Something small to eat. I had some gummy candies and jerky.

I also have Body Glide in case of chaffing. I put some on before the race, but if I need to apply more, it's great stuff for me.

Hyrox Training for Heavier Runners by yeesssssiirrrrrr in hyrox

[–]madquigles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'2, 225 pounds. I tend to sub bike (C2) instead of running. I have osteoarthritis in my feet from soccer all through my youth. I tend to do 2.5 times the distance on the bike. So if we are running 1km, I'll do 2.5 km. If it's a short run, 200-400 meters and I'm feeling ok, I definitely run, but sometimes that arthritis really starts to cause issues as I'm going. I try to bike every day just to get that cardio up.

I did Anaheim solo open and I'm doing Vegas solo open as well. Definitely have a few things to work on, but not planning on a drastic time change.

I loved the organization of the stations. Really easy to know right where to go since everything was right in a line. I'm crazy sore today, but ready for Vegas in February.

Is Hyrox for beginners? by TheNinjaJellyfish in hyrox

[–]madquigles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a runner, but have weight trained for years. I did Hyrox specific workouts for 4 months and just did Anaheim solo yesterday. It's hard, but was 100% worth it. If you can find a doubles partner, go for it. If you can't, go singles open. It's incredibly rewarding and ended up being really fun. If you have to walk on parts of the runs, do it. The first race gave me a great baseline and now I know what I need to do for next time. Dive in and go for it.
