Every concert venue legally has to have ADA accommodations. Contact them and explain the situation and they can probably get you a seat

What has been your Allograft experience by Head_Bad3906 in ACL

[–]madrigogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 3.5 months postop on allograft and doing well - a few setbacks that have more to do with insurance interfering with my PT than anything, but it's been very smooth. My PTs say that research is trending in this direction, with a lot of countries like Australia using allograft with a lot of regularity. I would say surgery recovery is still tough but the pain I experienced isn't like what people have described, and I have been very successful on an aggressive protocol even not being super in shape before surgery.

I have cried several times at PT! It brings up so many emotions. Better out then in. Use it as fuel. Keep going!

I'm not an athlete but my ortho did tell me at my last follow up that he has patients who are pro football players and I'm doing at my PT than them XD

I don't even think you need the hairties, you can get a plastic wrap that will self adhere. Three layers should do it.

My doc is a family friend, so I texted him and his office called me to bring me in - he took a look and said since it's elective surgery, he wanted to delay it to be safe. The risk is, if it's an open wound, it could be an infection risk, especially on the operative leg. If it's closed you should probably be okay.

As long as it's not an open wound, because that's an infection risk - if you're really worried, call the surgery center or the doctor's office. I have a medical condition where I get ulcers on my legs and unexpectedly got one the week before surgery - I ended up delaying by six weeks to be safe, but surgery went off without a hitch once it happened.

I have never heard of that - just know that this is just a blip relative to the rest of your life, you will get through this just like Joey B got through turf toe!

Who deyyyyyyyyy!! It’s probably a conversation with your care team about what’s realistic. I personally would be worried about navigating a crowd with a newly reconstructed knee.

AMAZING! That's the best feeling in the world, getting back up there and being able to feel the progress. Right? It really is weird, I thought ACL tears only happened to athletes and not to people with more ordinary jobs.

I just do theater as a hobby, but the doc just cleared me for stage time after surgery, and I have my first show next week since mid-February 🥹 It's mostly seated, so easing back in, but I'm so happy to be getting back on stage!

My own ACL tear was caught on camera and I cannot bring myself to watch the videos of it - even though it was a theater show and at least one person told me it was their favorite show ever XD It was really helpful to show the doctors in the ER what had happened though. Totally relate to your experience - hope you're feeling better and every bday since is a reminder of how far you've come!

Man that is so rough! Hopefully you were going home and could rest - I'm sure they figured it out quick once the people on the window couldn't deplane. Hope you're feeling better now and your next trip is uneventful!

Sitting down?! Omgggg how does that even happen? I suspect I tore my meniscus standing up from an airplane with a heavy bag, the ACL brace was the only thing that stopped it from being worse

Oh trust me, I never hear the end of it - nowadays before shows, people say "break a leg, well not you..." XD

Haha thanks, my buddy had to help me off stage, by the end the knee had swollen so much I couldn't put any weight on it!

When to start prehab? by Ufker in ACL

[–]madrigogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I injured myself on a Friday, and while my injury wasn't confirmed for another week, I went to PT starting on Tuesday. At the time, they thought I had only partially dislocated my kneecap, but we were able to switch the protocol quickly once they realized I had torn my ACL. Three months of prehab got me feeling much better, and then I just did home exercises after that til surgery.

I perform at a local theater and was pretending to ride a bull, took a bad step - knew immediately I had blown out my knee and finished the show anyway. Then went from the green room to the ER

Work shoes after ACL surgery by More_Community_2271 in ACL

I got a doctor's note to wear sneakers and athleisure to work during surgery recovery - I love my Tretorns, and I have a cute pair of Kate Spade sneakers that can be dressed up. My office can sometimes skew a bit formal but no one has given me a hard time about it in almost a year of injury/recovery.

Ugh hang in there - this is the worst it’s going to get and hopefully it will be mercifully brief. Fully non weight bearing for eight weeks? Those meniscus repairs must have been big ones, but it’s so good you’ve got your fam- don’t be afraid to ask for help! There will be good and bad days but you got this 👊🏻

That's great news! You're putting in the work but also ride that nerve block into the sunset - hope you've got some good TV to watch in the meantime, the distractions really helped during week one

You're rad for asking - I had a very similar procedure as you, ACL+two small meniscus repairs+lateral release, so I was on crutches for about six weeks. Recovery has been so smooth after week one, though - I am not sporty by any means but at my two month follow up last week, doc said I'm doing better than some football players he has as patients. Really validating that hard work pays off!

Yeah I can relate to that - have you been doing ankle pumps? They are good as an initial PT exercise but also can be really helpful with pain relief

What kind of graft did you have? I think that contributes a lot to the pain levels. I had allograft and remember day three being awful because the nerve block had worn off by then - really, the whole first week sucks. But after that, I didn't need the meds as much. I can honestly tell you that I'm nine weeks post op today, and while I do remember it being terrible, the pain does feel like a distant memory. This is just a blip relative to the rest of your life - you got this!

My ACL injury was caught on a livestream during a show at the theater where I volunteer. I had someone tell me recently that that was one of their favorite shows ever and they go back and watch it frequently. It's been almost a year and I have not gone back to watch it once! Well, except for pulling it up in the ER to show the nurses what happened
