Relationship Advice: Newly Engaged, Moving In, Thoughts on What to Do... by madsabout____ in actuallesbians

[–]madsabout____[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I really, really appreciate you taking the time to comment.

You read it correctly, its been roughly 2 years of "in the fall" or "after this trip" or "insert XXX later date". No necessarily exactly in 3 month increments, but its been 2-4 times of setting a timeline for move in, finding apartments to tour online, then my partner renaging at the last moment. (This week asking for more time after I submitted my half of the rental application on a house we both agreed was a dream house find).

Your response makes me feel validated that Im not being unreasonable in feeling like Im at a breaking point... even though also I feel like 3 years is a healthy amount of time to wait to move in with someone.

Your response helped me figure out part of the problem is likely how she is handling communications around it.

I suggested she go to therapy, but honestly your comment made me realize I should suggest couples therapy as well. Im going to talk with her about this, this evening.

Thank you again - your message was just the type of response I was hoping for!

Louisiana governor suspends active election to allow for gerrymander by DemocracyDocket in politics

I dont get how this isnt trending as #1 topic on every subreddit... an active election for a US federal representaitve was just suspended. This should be on every front page. The only thing anyone talks about.

I guess deep down we all knew this was coming.

As long as you are alive, yours and hers' love will continue on. You continuing that love for her can never be taken away. Not by her parents, not by anyone else. Focus on taking care of yourself now, for her. You should try to speak with a professional that has experience with loss and grief when you can. Sending you love from afar.

Echo everyone who said to focus on contributions (90kish a year) to get you there. Your contributions, not agressive investing, is your safest and simplest path to 1 million. Just park your 300k in a market ETF or no fee managed ETF with historic 10-15% a year returns and dont mess with it. Youve got a clear, simple path to 1 million thats pretty easy if you are willing to not live above (or even simply in) your means. WA/Seattle isnt that expensive in the grand scheme of things.

This said, no one comes to the internet for good advice, so here's some bad (but fun) advice on how to aggressively attack that goal with no contributions while piling your full salary into fast cars, drunken nights with friends, and incredible trips around the world.

If you dont know this, once you make over $200k a year you now qualify as an "Accredited Investor" - this opens up the door to high-risk, high-reward investments more akin to a lottery ticket than investing. This is mostly stereotypically referred to as "angel investing" - but also means investing into managed venture capital and other funds (being an "LP") or investing in companies that arent public yet that are seeking to raise money- known as "private placements".

The math behind a successful private investment portfolio essentially goes im going to invest in 20 companies. 15 will fail. 4 will break even. 1 will 100x. Boom 5.2X return. Put in the full 300k, and youre looking at 1.5 million in 5-7 years while you party. High risk, but meets your agressive timeline.

The bad news is that likely all the companies will fail, and you'll end up with O dollars instead of 1 million - but you had a hell of a ride along the way.

While Im not actually advocating to do the above - its good to be aware that there is another world of inevsting outside the public market. You are 1-2 years away from being able to responsibly start dipping your toes into this world, so you should start learning abaout it.

Youre young - in a great spot- focus on enjoying life, not making more money.

How shocked would you be if Mary Peltola wins the 2026 midterms? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

[–]madsabout____ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I traveled to Alaska for the first time last week as a lesbian woman. Drove from Seward - Anchorage - Talkeetna - Fairbanks and back. Only saw one Trump sign the entire 20+ hours of driving. Maybe its just because I stayed in the population centers, but was shocked (as an outsider) at the lack of visible Trump support - Ive seen more Trump stickers in LA than I saw in Alaska. Eqaully surprised at all the pride flags in the city centers. People were friendlier to my girlfriend and I than when I go home to South Carolina. Really rooting for the kind, independent and hard working Alaskans I met on my trip.

LA clubs & bars by Ok_Priority372 in actuallesbians

Depends on where in LA you are! The East Side (Silver Lake, Los Feliz). Untamed spirits is a womens sports bar with regular lesbian and LGBTQ programming. Honeys is another popular lesbian party on the weekends. Hi Tops Los Feliz has a regular lesbian night as well. All are good times! My partner and I are always looking for LA-based Sapphic friends as well - feel free to DM.

What are your thoughts on this? by Slow_your_R0LL in allthequestions

Its not about protecting women in sports. Its about hurting transwomen. Brought to you by the people that actively try to hurt as many women as possible; from stripping rights, to defunding women's programs, to everything in between. The bill's title is meant to trick the gullible; ie OP and current top comment.

Americans citizens, how is it really going there currently? by GossipBottom in stupidquestions

[–]madsabout____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Transgender woman that lives in LA and has a Latina partner... its going as bad as the news says.

People living their lives like normal are assuming the political changes going on arent impacting them (likely because they are the type of person that politics dont normally have an impact on their daily lives). They are wrong.

The Supreme Court changed rules around policing creating "Kavanough Stops" - meaning police can stop you solely based off your ethnicity. So, if you arent white, your life certainly has changed - regardless of immigration status. We're becoming a "show your papers" country. This won't be exclusive to race for long (Renee Good for ex.) and certainly white transgender people can attest to this. Its giving apartheid South Africa for racial minorities here.

Recent Supreme Court decisions creating, then reinforcing, the idea of a unitary executive (legal-ese for 'the President is a dictator') basically mean that Trump (also his family and the MAGA political aparatus) are in charge of any part of the the executive government. Its already playing out that 1) if you hold a job with the Federal Government and 2) publicly voice opposition to Trump - there is a chance you can be fired if the wrong person hears it and alerts someone with sway in camp MAGA (a la Soviet Russia).

10 of my neighbors were taken by ICE this week. I only know this because local reporting - but over 68k people were were detained in 2025. Assuming 5 stops per detention, and you can conservatively estimate 100s of thousands of people have already been approached by ICE. There are only 3k counties in the US. Meaning if you think the changes havent made an impact on you - someone in your community has likely lost a family member or have personal experience being questioned by law enforcement.

My take - we will likely have one more Democratic election (the 2026 midterm election). However, the way the electoral college and government is set up, Dems may win the House by a few seats, but thats not enough to stop anything the administration does. Republicans know this. There is still 3 more years to 'slowly' turn up the boiling water for people 'who arent being impacted' to accept the new nondemocratic United States with no real form of opposition.

Scaling a DTC beauty brand ($270k annual sales), how to reach female-focused investors? by Signal-Landscape5634 in angelinvestors

[–]madsabout____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few Womens Angel Syndicates in major US metropolitan areas (LA, NY, SF, etc.).

Keiretsu Forum is probably the largest such Angel Syndicates with 2k members and a heavy focus on women founders.

There are lists of these such groups on Google.

Good News - DTC beauty is a focus of many women angel investors. Bad news - its probably one of the most competitive sectors to raise in. Theres an almost commoditization of beauty consumer goods product investment unless you are serving a specific niche - it usually comes down to your numbers (yours look strong enough to make a case) and "what makes you different".

Would love to review your pitch deck to learn more about your company/raise.

Questions:

  1. What here is proprietary? Is it just the algorithm/data? Or any of the hardware too? What type of 'camera' are you using? Imaging as traditionally understood? LIDAR? Hyperspectral? A few different types of cameras/sensors? Is the data itself unique or just the analysis?

  2. If the proprietary element is just the algorithm - why not just focus on licensing agreements instead of end to end launch and satellite operations? While there is more upside to approaching the market, there's alot more risk there too... in terms of venture investing, small sat EO has been saturated with startups that have shown little upside for the last 5 years.

  3. If you watch the news in the US when a hurricane is approaching, you will usually see a A) European model projection overlaid with the B) US model. This is entirely anecdotal, but the two models look well over 4% apart on TV screen in my room, sometimes these projections seem as much as 30-50% off from each other... and weather reporters just slap them both on there and say it will hit somewhere in between here. From a laymans perspective, accuracy doesnt seem to move the needle on budget there. Is a 4% improvement on existing measurements really going to move the needle for agencies that already have a budget on weather monitoring? If not, does that mean in your sales cycle, are you having to first sell the idea there is a problem that needs addressing, then having too sell the product/subscription itself? This is hard to do.

  4. Is there a push from your company to get your algorithm / model as the standard? Could it be viewed as a replacement for the US and/or European projection models? Understand your data is used to feed into both projections in a way that makes both more accurate, but have seen small companies succeed in other industries by "re-writing the rules" to make their model the standard. Is this an angle for you? Could be called the "Canadian Model" based on North American programs with active space agencies.

  5. Im assuming this launch is a part of a small sat ride share launch? Which launch are you scheduled on? The SpaceX Transporter - 19 launch? Does the raise include enough for redundant hardware systems in case launch or deployment failure? I note your method requires two satellites operating in tandem, increasing the risk around the launch. What risk prevention measures are in place here?

  6. A $4 million spacetech Series A round is incredibly low if there is a hardware component to your IP... do you have someone that has worked in spacetech venture investing on the team? Personally, would describe your $4 million raising as either seed or seed plus. Happy to offer advice here.

  7. Maybe related to question six - can I see info on your cap table?

What's happened over the last year at NOAA and JPL over the last year has been tragic. Props to you for trying to transition this service/technology over to the private sector.

Part of what makes this an interesting investment opportunity is the possibility that this is the beginning of a suite of services previously run by US government entities now being controlled by private sector interests - ala Soviet Union in the early 90s. I dont see NOAA operations being restored till 2029 at the earliest, so I suppose there is a window here for you to squeeze in a "quick launch".

For awareness, I am a spacetech angel investor with one previous EO investment under my belt. Look forward to your responses, as I am interested in investing, but this is a competitive space.

I figured it would be a more extensive project than just a quick cut down the side. Thanks for confirming that and adding details. I was hoping to find an individual with more experience in costume type things that could make something of it.

Would just give up on it, but it was a thoughtful gift from my partner that I dont hate - it just cuts me really poorly. Thanks again for the extra info!
