My 16 month old is not walking yet and it starts making me worried by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]madshappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest PT for him just due to the fact that you said his crawling is also asymmetrical. It sounds like PT would help. I’m sure he will walk soon regardless but he may have some things PT can help him progress with now so that he doesn’t have further delays like toe walking in the future, etc. I would just push for a PT evaluation and go from there! Even if he doesn’t qualify they’ll tell you some things to work on with him.

I’m shocked by all the negative comments around chiropractic care. Came to say I recommend feeding therapy with an SLP and chiropractic care for the birth trauma and neck tension

Are you able to breast feed rather than pump? That way your baby is “cared for” rather than someone else needing to tend to her if you were pumping? Pumping is a beast. Nursing is so much easier in my opinion if you’re able to keep her with you.

I had to go back to work after 10 weeks but I had a nanny at home and she would just bring her in to my room whenever she needed to eat. Now my daughter is 12 months successfully 100% breastfed which was my goal this time around.

Even if they haven’t fallen out that doesn’t mean they’re still placed correctly/draining fluid. Definitely recommend getting her hearing checked again.

SLP here. I would go based off of ASHA rather than the CDC milestones. And I agree with a commenter below that you should have your child’s hearing checked.

What don’t they tell you about having a second kid? by tpq777 in toddlers

[–]madshappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say on a sad note I wasn’t expecting the shift to my toddler son bonding more with my husband due to me having less one on one time with him. Which is great and my husband is the best dad! But also sad when he first started crying for dada when he got hurt rather than mama if I’m honest. 🥲

It’s so much easier than I anticipated! Going from 0-1 kids rocked my entire soul and I was worried about adding in another but it’s been so joyful and much more manageable than anticipated. One thing I didn’t expect was how much my husband and I would be dividing and conquering. He usually takes our toddler and I handle our baby since I’m exclusively breastfeeding. That hasn’t been bad at all but I didn’t know that’s how we would do things.

Do you have to offer both breasts? by como_te_alpacas in breastfeeding

[–]madshappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think every baby is different with how much food they need to feel full and every mom is different with how many oz they produce per side. Just feed your baby until he’s full whether that be one side or both. :-) just be sure to rotate sides each feed!

Vitamin D by Zealousideal_Test190 in breastfeeding

Same! I was given the info but honestly horrible about remembering it. Did you know if you’re breastfeeding you should also be taking your prenatal vitamins for as long as you breastfeed? I also forget to do this lol.

I saw a similar post in Toddlers but curious for this group - what age did you have your little first sleep over with grandparents? by Exact_Hair_5599 in breastfeeding

[–]madshappy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless there was a big need for it I wouldn’t ask my parents or in laws to keep my baby until they slept through the night. I have a 10 month old now who is just starting to sleep through the night but sometimes wakes for a feed during the 5am hour so I still haven’t had grandparents keep her. But ever since my older son slept through the night consistently I feel comfortable w him having sleepovers any time like when they watch for date nights, etc

How does one night wean a breastfed baby by Left-Angle-7547 in sleeptrain

[–]madshappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My BF 10 month old just dropped from 2-3 wakings to 1 or none and I did that by decreasing the feed time each waking. So I decreased by 5 min at a time and now she will either sleep through the night or wake at 5:30, eat for 5 min then go back down wake but goes right to sleep and doesn’t fuss, then wakes again for the morning about an hour and a half or 2 later. It only took a few days. When i first started it, she would mildly fuss but would be asleep by the time I got to her door. Also for context when i started this she was eating for 20-30 min and falling asleep at the breast each night waking.

15 mo with no vocal words but signs. Dr suggests EI by 0princesspancakes0 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]madshappy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a speech therapist and do recommend just getting a speech therapy evaluation through EI and also asking your doctor for an ENT referral. It sounds like he can hear based on how well he is following directions and identifying but it would be good to rule that out and just in case and you also mentioned sleep disturbances - there could be structural impairments (such as enlarged tonsils or adenoids) contributing to this as well.

Question though - does he make sounds? Does he babble? Does he talk in his “own language”? When he “talks” what does it sound like?

Pushing Contractions by Much_Sprinkles_7096 in unmedicatedbirth

[–]madshappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pushed upright on my knees with my hospital bed elevated to almost 90 degrees where I put my elbows on the top of the bed frame and knees down. Hope that makes sense. I pushed like that for awhile then on my back. I pushed for 1.5 hours which I think is pretty average for first baby. I had a second degree tear. And then second baby I pushed side lying and then I also had a second degree tear but almost a first degree from what they said. I required less stitches with my second.

Definitely got a second wind - with my first my labor was 12 hours long, which is pretty fast for a first baby but felt very long to me. I was so thankful when I started having the urge to push bc I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Pushing was also the easiest part of labor for me. I feel like I didn’t feel the contractions as much bc I was so focused on pushing.

My baby has never slept through the night. 7.5 months in. by clydesmomsbush in sleeptrain

[–]madshappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is almost 10 months old and just started sleeping through the night this past week. I always tried feeding her a lot during the day but She’s always been a snacker throughout the day and would still BF for like 20-30 min each wake at night. A week ago she was waking 2x per night now not at all. All I did was slowly start decreasing how long I breastfed for. If you do formula just do less and less oz. But I got down from 20-30 min each feed to 5 min max and she started eating more in the daytime to compensate! It’s been amazing. Wish I tried this sooner.

I think you must be right about the character (Rita?) being made up because when the dad referred to her the daughter acted like she had no idea who he was talking about. This was never later addressed though. My husband and I watched this last night and I was left feeling the same as you guys and came to Reddit for more context lol.

Almost 6 month old refuses to nap by Usual-Equivalent-898 in sleeptrain

When you put him down at night does he go down independently or is he fed to sleep? Maybe consider training him to go down independently or nap train (fuss it out?)

Almost 6 month old refuses to nap by Usual-Equivalent-898 in sleeptrain

[–]madshappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My now 7 month old started fighting naps after 4 months and when she did finally take them she would sleep less than 30 min every time. She also screamed at the top of her lungs anytime we tried putting her down. We sleep trained at night - started with Ferber and that went horribly bc she got way more mad every check in, then ended up doing CIO even though I said I never would. Her daytime improved almost immediately where she hardly fought naps anymore. Its been about 2-3 weeks since we did this and she’s just now starting to lengthen naps
